  1. Maybe your doctor (GP or GI) should rule out SIBO? In any case, there is something wrong and maybe your doctor can help. This is off topic, but what is your age? Going through menopause/perimenopause can cause weight in your mid-section as your body fights to find a new estrogen sources (fat cells). As far as diet, I went gluten-free and saw some...
  2. If the pot has burnt on food and you can not remove it without taking off th enamel, I would not use it. Ask for a new one for your birthday or get a Lodge enamel pot. I found mine discounted and have been happy with it and the price. It performs as well my my neighbor's LeCruset. If you have a self -cleaning oven, you can put the cast iron pan through...
  3. Here is an old blog from member, Jebby who has celiac disease and is a PED doctor: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/blog/1038/entry-1822-up-to-date-management-of-celiac-disease-in-adults/ It discusses all the care needed after diagnosis. Edited: the name is Jebby, not Jebay or Jenny! darn ipad!
  4. Great advice. Getting to the allergist would be the first thing to address.
  5. Mini, Here is the complete panel of blood and endoscopy tests: -tTG IgA and tTG IgG -DGP IgA and DGP IgG -EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG (control test) -AGA IGA and AGA IgG - older and less reliable tests largely replace by the DGP tests -endoscopic biopsy - make sure at least 6 samples are taken (Source: NVSMOM -- ) Only my DGP IGA was...
  6. Welcome to the forum! Here is a great and reputable site that discusses celiac disease (University of Chicago's celiac website): check out the entire site. Open Original Shared Link Did your son receive a complete celiac panel? He may have a better positive on one of the other tests. That might make you fell better about pursuing an endoscopy or...
  7. Saw your other postings and I am concerned that the correct celiac blood tests were not given (at least not all of them). The tests include: -tTG IgA and tTG IgG -DGP IgA and DGP IgG -EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG (control test) -AGA IGA and AGA IgG - older and less reliable tests largely replace by the DGP tests And done by a GI doctor: ...
  8. So sorry! Hope you feel better soon!
  9. If she has celiac disease and it is linked to alopecia, I would imagine that significant healing would have to occur (many months to years depending on intestinal damage). Why weren't the standard tests for celiac disease given? The tests by Cyrex are not recognized by the medical industry as being valid: Open Original Shared Link I understand your...
  10. We buy the Breyers ice cream just from the gluten-free list. I assumed that the ingrediants on the "Blast" products might have more of a cross contamination issue, but that is just an assumption! I never called the manufacturer. Why not just add your own toppings? I make ice cream cakes, gluten-free of course, in a Springform pan. I soften the ice...
  11. I would not worry too much about the weight of your children if they are thriving. Our PED was always after me to change may kid's diet (we ate pretty healthy). She started in the 5 to 10 % club (held for years) and at 14 is at the 50% weight percentile. She fattened up when she hit kindergarten and was exposed to junk food (school lunches, Ha!)....
  12. Do not know about the spices, but we use Stubbs as our BBQ sauce. We use things like Rosarita's refriend beans in a pinch and mission corn tortillas are fine. Ortega Chilis or their taco sauce is good and we love Hatches products from New Mexico. Frozen raspberries should be fine (we eat fresh). Glad you are doing better. I found that I improved when...
  13. I would avoid the antibiotics unless your doctor knows for sure that it is from bacteria! Sounds like no one knows the cause. I looked it up and I would have to say that I had this once (about 20 years ago). My GP thought I was reacting to a new brand of supplements. It went away in a month or two. in any case, I ditched that brand of supplements...
  14. I an no expert in this area, but I think some reactions to foods are just random. Or think about a cup. You can only fill it in so much before it overflows. You might, for example be able to tolerate nuts but when pollen season hits, nuts may cause a strong reaction. Or you might do well with a few crackers containing Xanthan gum, but two slices of gluten...
  15. Getting a celiac disease or NCGI diagnosis is overwhelming, but knowing what is actually making you sick is a relief! Even if your kids are diagnosed, you will be able to handle it. Just give yourself plenty of time to learn. My strategy has been to stay informed and educated. This forum has been great! I am so thankful for the internet!
  16. My husband went gluten free 14 years ago per the very poor advice of his GP and my allergist (no testing was done and there is no way he will do a challenge now). I had allergies and intolerances to many things and he had to be gluten free, but we supported one another. I cooked gluten-free and got my gluten fix away from him. Twelve years later, I was...
  17. Bane, Any GP or an Endo can test for autoimmune thyroiditis. Ask for a thyroid antibody panel as it sounds like you did not get a full thyroid panel run (nor a complete celiac panel). Remember, you can choose to go gluten free if all else fails! I am formally diagnosed, but my hubby is not. He has been gluten-free for 14 years!
  18. I am not familiar with these tests and am not sure if they are accurrate or not. It is good that your GP is willing to send you to a GI doctor. Keep eating gluten until all testing is complete. A biopsy via endoscopy can confirm a celiac diagnosis. There is no test to identify a gluten sensitivity at this time. I would recommend researching the University...
  19. Nice to hear!
  20. Yep, it sounds normal, but remember everyone has different experiences. The learning curve for maintaining a gluten-free diet is steep. Review our Newbie 101 section under the "Coping" section for valuable tips. It sounds like you are getting glutened often! Plus, it can take a while to heal. A long time if gluten is sneaking into your diet. Take...
  21. Hi Aly, You are in a hard place! I can only offer you advice based on my own personal experience. I was formally diagnosed with celiac disease two years ago. My hubby went gluten-free per the advice of his GP and my allergist 14 years ago. After a year of mis-haps (we all know about the steep learning curve for the gluten-free diet), his symptoms resolved...
  22. I was going to say two things: "Great minds think alike!" And.... When I first saw the posting, I was heading out the door and in a hurry and thought that Karen will respond. I was right!
  23. This is an older post from Jebby. She is a Ped Medical doctor who also has celiac disease. She wrote about Dr. Fansano's diet (and other celiac disease experts) and how it deals with super sensitive or possible refractory celiac disease. https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/blog/1038/entry-1780-the-gluten-contamination-elimination-diet-summary-of-dr...
  24. Yep, I can not consume it and I have been gluten free for two years. If you have a gluten intolerance you could have celiac disease or Non-celiac gluten intolerance. From your posting it appears that you did not get any celiac testing. You would have to go back on gluten in order to get tested (how long have you been glutn free? I say this because...
  25. Well, I am not a kid, but celiac disease symptoms seem to evolve. Anemia was my primary symptom at the time of my diagnosis but tummy troubles occur when I get accidentally glutened. When were her antibodies for celiac disease last checked? Could she be getting gluten?
