  1. Well, the next step is a biopsy since you had a positive result, but if you are not up for a gluten challenge (to do the endoscopy) then you can stay off gluten (must be strict) to see of symptoms improve. Six months is not long enough to see improvement for many people with celiac disease. Read our Newbie section under "Coping" for tips especially about...
  2. As Roseanna Roseannadanna used to say, "It's always something!!" Thanks for the tip!
  3. I have really high B-12 levels (2,000+) and folate too. I freaked, but my docs have not. Because I have kept records for 20 years, I found that they have always been high. I do not have cancer or liver disease. I did some research and found that I probably have a methylation problem (thanks, Dad!). So, I make sure that I do not take any additonal B...
  4. Antibodies for celiac disease can remain high up to a year (or longer) after diagnosis and that is while ON a gluten free diet. Symptoms can take years to resolve for some while others find relief within a few weeks. There are no set times for healing because everyone has different symptoms and degrees of damage. I would ask for the GI consult. Get...
  5. I have Hashi's. At the time of my diagnosis (anemia was my only symptom besides having Hashi's), only the DGP IGA was positive on my celiac blood test panel. The rest were negative. Biopsy samples obtained through an endoscopy revealed moderate to severe damage confirming celiac disease. My thyroid antibodies have come down since I have gone gluten...
  6. I think this is something worth discussing with your doctor. I can not imagine that an antihistamine or iron tablet would alter the outcome of a celiac blood panel, but I am not a doctor. Not sure about the other drugs you are taking and their impact.
  7. There are over 300 symptoms that go along with celiac disease. Some folks have NO SYMPTOMS! Check out the University of Chicago's celiac website for more information. They are a leading researcher unlike the SCAM doctor you referred to in your first posting. Please be wary of any doctor who sells you product to help you heal! Check out government, university...
  8. I vote for Pamela's. The Betty Crocker is fine in a pinch (nice to have it in most grocery stores), but it is all rice flour, so it is grainy in my opinion. You can also buy Pamela's flour blend and make a full-sized cake (two layer) from scratch. It is pretty easy! Sub coconut oil for butter or use shortening (trans fat....but it is her birthday) or...
  9. Your doctor does not seem to be following normal protocol in diagnosing celiac disease. Here is a link from the University of Chicago's celiac website that you can review, print and share with your doctor. You should be referred to a Gastroentologist for biopsies via an endoscopy. Open Original Shared Link I personally think going gluten free for...
  10. We eat a lot of salad, but eats lots of cooked veggies too. I most always have veggies at every meal, even breakfast! Things like roasted asparagus or cabbage, steamed: broccoli, green beans, califlower, brussel sprouts -- topped with butter, sautéed greens with bacon or olive oil, avocados, the list is endless! In a pinch I use frozen veggies, but fresh ...
  11. Diet jello with unsweetened heavy whipping cream and berries Fat bombs (coconut oil, butter, lemon, cream cheese -- there are lots of flavors) Dark chocolate squares Berries with Heavy Whipping Cream Breyer's Low Carb Ice Cream We consume these at our house, but sparingly because it will make you crave more carbs. Same goes for anything diet, like...
  12. Hang in there! Get to Trader Joe's and have some cherry chocolate chip Soymilk ice cream! And think of me. I am diabetic and am on a low carb high fat diet now. Talk about depravation! I am one year into this new diet and my blood sugar is doing well. The only good news is that I can cheat occasionally. Can never do that with gluten! I have not...
  13. Most of us have gone for years or decades without a proper diagnosis or even a clue that gluten was making us ill. There are over 300 symptoms of celiac disease and each present differently. I suggest you research the University of Chicago's celiac website. They are a leading researcher in the US. Healing differs for everyone. It can depend on how...
  14. Ha! Let's face it. It is so easy for things to be mis-communicated without being face to face! Sorry!
  15. Mamaw, I am not knocking digestive enzymes or probiotics as I have used them for over 20 years and my doctor was the first to recommend them. The company that Heliosue mentioned seems to imply that their product works to prevent the effects of accidentally getting glutened. . No one should make that claim! Avoiding gluten is currently the only...
  16. Do you live near a Costco? Their hams are gluten free (and marked gluten-free though I doubt they are tested. We never use the glazing packet -- too sweet for out taste!
  17. Whoa! I googled this manufacturer and the first page of hits are blogs and the company's promotional brochure (PDF). The enzyme products as well as the rest of the products claim to be gluten free (saw no Certified gluten-free labeling.). That is fine, but to state that it will help with accidental glutenings is false! I suppose the applicable enzymes...
  18. Just remember that during an endoscopy damage is often not seen. That's why they take about six biopsies in various areas. I would keep that June appointment as extra insurance! Getting a firm diagnosis was important for me. Anemia was my main symptom and I could not believe that both my husband and I would have to be gluten free. What are the...
  19. It sounds like you have been doing research. Are you still consuming gluten? That is critical for testing.
  20. Welcome to the club! I just pulled a chocolate mayonnaise cake out of the oven. Luckily, it fell out of the pan easily. It works best to use parchment paper to line pans when using gluten-free flour. Next step, homemade frosting. Yum! This cake is requested by my non-celiac kid over a store-bought bakery cake full of gluten! It is that good! ...
  21. Have you been tested for celiac disease?
  22. I understand! My husband went gluten free per the advice of my allergist and his GP. Amazingly, he got well! But he would be the first to say that I have received much more support from family and friends with an official diagnosis. We think he really has it based on his previous symptoms, reactions now to gluten and that his family has so many autoimmune...
  23. Welcome to the club! I would say that you have celiac disease. The gold standard for a final diagnosis is usually biopsies. Make sure they take up to six samples as the small intestine is vast (size of a tennis court). Keep eating gluten until the biopsies are done. Then check out our Newbie 101 section under "Coping" to help you REALLY go gluten...
