  1. Are you serious? I thought you were just venting! Go ahead, if you plan on dragging everyone into the restroom with you. You might make your point or you might just hurt yourself (hard to write a paper when you feel like crap, no pun intended! ) Better yet, spend your time educating the lame people around you. I sat my family down (Yep, even those...
  2. Time. I wish there was a magic pill, but I found that rest and drinking lots of fluids helps a little. Perhaps others will have a better remedy.
  3. Which celiac blood tests? If I had taken just the typical celiac screening test (TTG and IGA deficiency), my diagnosis would have been missed. I tested positive on only the DPG. Any possibility of taking the additonal panel? I think in the US, the complete panel is around $450 (and you have had a few of them already). Maybe you can pay cash? Not sure...
  4. Thanks for paying it forward! You are bound to help someone with your response!
  5. I am so sorry! I understand your frustration! It takes me a week or more to recover from a glutening. Symptoms lessen as time goes on. Everyone is different. I can tell you that I ALWAYS talk to the manager/head chef regardless of how knowledgeable the waiter seems to be. My hubby and kid used to be embarrassed by this, but they went out last night...
  6. Here's some information: Open Original Shared Link It contains a list of vitamins and things that should be ordered/checked after a celiac diagnosis (e.g. bone scan).
  7. I do not have MS, but my mother-in-law did. She lived a very full life. She first had vision problems in her twenties. Later, problems with walking, but that was right before retirement. Her symptoms would lapse and then hit her for a few weeks out of the year. In retrospect, we think she had celiac disease as well, but everything was brushed off as...
  8. Yes, drink wine! As long as it is not bothering your gut! This is sad, but true, that many doctors think that only kids get celiac disease and that the classic symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, extended belly, and failure to thrive are the only symptoms of celiac disease. Most of us were sick for years before finding a celiac savvy doctor or researching...
  9. I forgot about vitamin defciencies. Those usually resolve on a gluten free diet. Haven't you been struggling with low vitamin D? I struggled with low iron, despite supplements, prior to going Guten free.
  10. Here's a link regarding symptoms: Open Original Shared Link Once you have one autoimmmune disorder, you tend to accumulate more. This includes: Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Type 1 Diabetes, R. Arthritis, Lupus, etc. So, it can be important to have a diagnosis, so that doctors can be "on the lookout" for new diseases. There are some hidden potential...
  11. Welcome, Adam! It's going to be nice to feel good again, isn't it? Patience. Lots of patience is required. Chances are you are going through withdrawal from gluten. It usually takes a week or two for that to subside per many of our forum members. Anxiety is common and eventually that will go away on the gluten free diet. As far as diet...
  12. Well, I am not a doctor, but based on what you presented....Yes, I think you could have celiac disease. You presented the same way I did with only DGP being positive and the tTG negative! I understand your denial. I was shocked when my DGP was high. My husband has been gluten free for 14 years based on some poor advice from his GP and my allergist. ...
  13. My tTG tests were negative. Just one of the DGP's was positive, yet I had a Marsh Stage IIIB diagnosis per the biopsies. The intestinal tract is vast (size of a tennis court), so celiac savvy doctors take the recommended six samples throughout. How many did they take? My visual endoscopy revealed nothing! How long were you gluten free? Just gluten...
  14. Karen is right. Not even a tiny crumb! You sound like me. Anemia was my only symptom at the time of my diagnosis. No tummy issues. I have thyroiditis too (last 20 years). Like Karen said, little things resolved which I had been blaming my thyroid or menopause once I went gluten free (e.g. anxiety, fatigue, tingling, etc.) I also found out that...
  15. Inflammation of the small intestines can be caused by many things, but if it is related to celiac disease and you maintain a gluten free diet, you should expect intestinal healing. I was just reading an article today about celiac disease. Many folks still have damage after two years after diagnosis. Most of this attributed to not adhering to the diet...
  16. Visually, nothing was noted on my endoscopy. Sample biopsies taken revealed a Marsh Stage IIIB which is moderate to severe villi damage. Celiac savvy GI doctors usually obtain the recommended six biopsies. The small intestine is vast -- the size of a tennis court. So, it's easy to miss a damage area. One biopsy is not enough! So, you can not rule...
  17. Did you actually have any celiac blood tests? During the endoscopy how many biopsies were taken? Not sure about the genes. They are not the most common for celiac disease however, there is a small percentage who do not have the normal "celiac genes".
  18. Maybe.....they were all gluten free?
  19. I used Maxi-Zyme by Country Life for a while. They are certified gluten-free. I waited one month before taking any supplements after my diagnosis. I wanted to expedite healing so I carefully added some in. I tend to have allergic reactions to things, so I am cautious. Then I would take a supplement and then wait a couple of days to see if I react...
  20. No, you have not misunderstood! Maybe have them read the University of Chicago's celiac website link and have them print it off to share with their doctors. Here's the link: Open Original Shared Link I do think there might be an issue with insurance if there are not any traditional symptoms (i.e. diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, etc.). I...
  21. Here's a link to a blog site maintained by a doctor who has celiac disease. Jebby, occassionally posts here on Celiac.com. It's a blog, but it's a start for your research into gluten ataxia (another form of celiac disease). This is a pretty new area of celiac disease, so there's not a lot published. Open Original Shared Link I can tell you...
  22. I had cold urticaria, at least for the first 50 years of my life. I would get swelling, hives, big/huge wheals on my skin from exposure to cold water, air, snow, etc. Had it since I was a kid. Had issues with skiing. My feet would swell and I would be stuck in my boots for at least a half hour. Touch snow and my hands would instantly swell, then get...
  23. Welcome Currant!
