  1. It could take several more months for you to feel better. You may also have to think about removing certain foods while you are healing, such as dairy and/or soy. It will get better.
  2. I'm assuming you are in the USA, but in Canada Freybe brand salami's, etc are Gluten-free Casein-free. I know that Hormel lists some of their gluten-free products on their website.
  3. If you have a Safeway, you can get Manny's corn tortillas which I find very good. I also buy Grimm's. No, they are not the same as flour ones, but you'll get used to the changing tastes with time. It really is all worth it because of how much better you feel.
  4. I agree, cf is much harder than gluten-free. I was a cheese addict. Cheese is very filing and so it was great for a skinny person like me. I think it has been about two months that I have been 100% casein free and I feel completely normal, finally, for the past week. I've even been introducing new weird foods the past few days to see what my body...
  5. I use 100% organic pure maple syrup. There are different brands available. But at least there are no added ingredients. However, for a family it could get expensive.
  6. I use the Old El Paso hard taco shells. For salsa I prefer Pace, which is gluten-free. I make my own seasonings though instead of using packaged.
  7. Celiac disease may be more predominant in people with different ancestral heritages. But, I think it is becoming less discriminate. I love the international aisles because you can get some great rice noodles and other stuff for cheap.
  8. I second the Natural Balance recommendation.

    ARCHIVED New Job

Thanks for the support everyone. You're doing a great job at calming my nerves.

    ARCHIVED New Job

I'll be graduating with a Conservation Biology major at the end of this month. It'll be great to be outside again for my job. Prior to getting married I always worked outdoors. It's been a long time. I think I'll be doing rangeland vegetation and wildlife monitoring. How do you deal with field work and being a celiac?

    ARCHIVED New Job

We'll be in Cochrane for that week of training and like I said they are non-profit so I think it would be motel food. I really don't want to get sick, that's why I thought bringing my own food might be better. It is field work so there won't be bathrooms only grasses and shrubs. Thanks guys. It's just nerve wracking but also exciting to start a new...

    ARCHIVED New Job

I need some help. I start my new field job in May and I will have to do one week of training in a different city. The company (a non-profit company) is putting us up in a motel with meals. Because they are no-profit, they asked if we have friends or family in Calgary, that we should stay there (about 20 minutes away). They also asked if we have any allergies...
  13. You have to be careful with some of the margarita mixes that they use. If they make the margarita from scratch, it's safe.
  14. I have been gluten-free since June 05 and I was off and on cf since Oct 05. I haven't had dairy for the past two months and I feel great. I eat soy, mostly as in Silk soy milk but I try not to have it everyday. I don't think soy is bothering me. But you are right, it is difficult to find things to eat without dairy, especially because I rarely eat meat...
  15. This is from the Sun Rype website: My family is allergic to nuts, gluten and dairy products. Do Sun-Rype products contain any of these? Sun-Rype products do not contain any Nut, Gluten, or Dairy products and they are manufactured in a facility that does not process any products containing these allergens. If you have food sensitivities, we always recommend...
  16. I e-mailed them months ago and I never got a response. Same thing with Cold-fX. I e-mailed them three times and no response. I called them and they said their product was safe, but I don't really belive them because I was quite sick. That's why I wanted it in writing.
  17. A co-worker of mine sells JuicePlus and it is very expensive. Another co-worker of mine asked her doctor about trying this product and was told why not just eat more fruits and veggies. At least you know if you buy an apple, you are getting an apple.
  18. At four months gluten-free I felt pretty lousy too. I had to cut out dairy. Also, some people react to soy.
  19. I drink Strongbow with no problems. Yum
  20. My blood tests were negative, so I went gluten-free just to try it. My doctor said the endo. might be negative anyways so she didn't recommend eating gluten again just to get the endo. done. It would have been nice to have a diagnosis, but I am so much healthier, I shouldn't really have any regrets. Also, my grandmother probably had celiac. My mother...
  21. I take Marvelon which is called Desogen (I think) in the US. They are gluten-free. However, they do have lactose, but it doesn't seem to bother me. I switched from these to Alesse just to see if the no lactose would make a difference. But Alesse was horrible, so I went back on Marvelon. I am casein intolerant, so I don't know why they are okay.
  22. The more positives the better.
  23. The Kinnikinnick bagels are great, much better than their bread.
  24. Personally, I have been on the pill for over 10 years and I have never had any problems so to speak. It's worked great for me.
  25. This is interesting because when I was little (three or four) I was tested for cf. It came back negative, but I wonder if they had tested me for celiac what the result would have been. Back then they didn't know as much about either disease as they do now.
