  1. No the doctors don't connect the dots . The specialists are even worse as they are so focussed on the one organ they treat. On the bright side it's a good time to do a Celiac blood panel before going completely gluten free. Just make sure you are eating bread daily in the weeks before the test. I read it's 4 slices of bread for 3 months for those...
  2. The reason I think testing is important is that Celiac can cause a myriad of health problems from osteoporosis, anemia, joint aches and other food intolerances and are associated with other auto immune disorders including Type 1 diabetis. So if you later develop an auto immune disorder, having a Celiac diagnosis would help your doctor understand you condition...
  3. chatoyance, as you may have read here, many people do a Celiac panel of about 3 tests and they come back positive only to one test. Some doctors only give the tTG test but it comes back negative but others test positive for the DGP tests. So I don't know if you'd remember what your Celiac test was. I hope I'm not confusing you. When I went gluten...
  4. To powerofpositivethinking: I'm figuratively banging my head about the insurance company statement about DGP not being proven. But you know what? I saw an allergist-immunologist who wrote to my doctor telling him to have me do the AGA tests to test for Celiac! I'm the one who did the research and it was reading on this site about people like you...
  5. Thank you pricklypear and squirmingitch, Yes I scratched it in the evening and then it's gone the next day for a for a week or longer.
  6. The Celiac panel took one week from the time I had my blood drawn to the time my PCP got the results. Then he sent me to do the AGA panel and I was told that one takes 3 weeks before I get the results. You also have to keep eating gluten until you get the endoscopy. Good luck.
  7. I saw my PCP. The itchy buttock rash was gone when I saw him. He thinks the rash would last longer if was Dermatitis Herpetiformis and not come and go so fast.
  8. I could relate to your post. When I first went gluten free I had so much energy that I could exercise without injuries. I wish I had been properly diagnosed like a class mate in high school. I wish I could turn back the clock. Enjoy your success.
  9. This is a sample Celiac panel. You have to be eating bread and gluten before doing this blood test. Total IgA Transglutaminase IgA tTG-IgA Deaminated Gliadin IgA DGP-IgA Deaminated Gliadin IgG DGP-IgG I resolved my night time reflux when I stopped using pepper on my food. Some of the symptoms you describe could be something serious so...
  10. About your concern regarding the cost of gluten free foods... for carbs: potatoes and rice are cheap gluten free foods. It might cost you more in terms of time spent in the kitchen preparing your meals. Fresh fruits, fresh vegetables and home made salads and homemade soups are gluten free. Make your own salad dressing with olive oil and herbs. Some...
  11. Sammy, just to test, try using NO dairy at all, such as, using almond beverage in your coffee. You could be hypersensitive to something in the milk. I hope your doctor takes your concerns seriously and that he does all the necessary tests. .................................................................................................................
  12. Wow that was an interesting read...
  13. Hi Marie, be sure to keep eating gluten (bread) till you get the endoscopy. EMA is 100 % specific so that sounds good to me. You can also try a Celiac blood panel after you've eaten more gluten Total IgA Transglutaminase IgA tTG-IgA Deaminated Gliadin IgA DGP-IgA Deaminated Gliadin IgG DGP-IgG In your case you could just do...
  14. When I was gluten free a while back, I contemplated the yeast theory and as an experiment, I started to put 1 or 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar on my salad and on my rice. Boy did I have pain in the days after. I suspected it's yeast or bacterial die off. But I continued and that particular pain waned. Oats: My food intolerance test said I'm intolerant...
  15. Eat lots of gluten - bread till you see the new gastro - doctor. This is a sample Celiac panel that covers more bases: Total IgA Transglutaminase IgA tTG-IgA Deaminated Gliadin IgA DGP-IgA Deaminated Gliadin IgG DGP-IgG Lucky you, I hope my doctor can send me to another gastro-doctor. It didn't go well with the one I saw today.
  16. What a relief to hear of another child being saved from decades of medical problems now that he knows he has Celiac. Congratulations on being a pro active mother. I did a food intolerance test in January and funnily some of the foods you mention are on my list. From what I've read it's the dairy and gluten that damage the intestine which then causes...
  17. If your grandfather had it then that is a big red flashing light with a big horn going off type of warning.
  18. I agree with ravenwoodglass. To me it sounds like an ulcer but tell the gastroenterologist about this before he scopes your stomach and small intestine. I had the opposite problem of being too sensitive to alcohol which I attributed to leaky gut or celiac LOL. So I stopped drinking a few years ago. Good for you for quitting drinking, your Liver...
  19. Hi Cookie, 1. As far as I know bloating is caused by undigested sugars such as lactose from milk being the most common. But it could be any kind of sugar. Often sugars that end in "ol" like sorbitol also does it. So I recommend cutting out milk first. Yogurt might have partially digested lactose. Hard cheeze doesn't have...
  20. In a Celiac book and online I've read about a test called Rectal Biopsy. In 6 hours the test is done. No months of eating bread. I asked a microbiologist at the hospital and he never heard of this test. There's also tests for testing leaky gut but they're not available. Keep us sick but not dead is the medical business model.
  21. You should have run to a photocopy place, copy it and run back to the lab LOL So many people here just get tTG, I hope you got the DGP-IgA and DGP-IgG. Did you peek at the paper?
  22. So the doctor takes your blood in her office and sends it herself? She doesn't give you a form and you go to the lab of your choice? Because my doctor always give me the requisition (therefore I know what is on it) and I go to any lab. Please ask her for a photocopy (say it's for your file in an official tone) and let us know which tests you got.
  23. Ackkk .... you said you would be eating gluten for 6 weeks first! How long has been your gluten challenge? How much bread did you eat? I did a single tTG test after a month of going back on gluten: negative. Then it was 5 months of eating from 2 up to 10 slices as I got closer to the planned test date in April. And I was exactly in your shoes...
  24. Get well soon I wish it was cooler where I live in Ontario Canada.
  25. The stuffed sinuses sounds like dairy but the rest could be gluten. You should ask the doctor for a copy of your past Celiac test. If it was just a tTG test it's not enough. A panel covers more bases. Total IgA Transglutaminase IgA tTG-IgA Deaminated Gliadin IgA DGP-IgA Deaminated Gliadin IgG DGP-IgG But you have to be eating gluten to do...
