  1. maximoo you have my highest of admiration, underpaid and amazing. The absolute best of people I have ever met are those like you The world is a better place because of you.
  2. I wonder if the problem is because there is a gluten-intolerance "disease" yet to be "named" that has an alternative effect on individuals. ie overweight not "wasting". seems to fit my symptoms and recovery. Celiac is a young disease in terms of how well and how long it has been known. Perhaps there is a genetic or alternative "reaction" to gluten (or...
  3. the Netherlands has such a fascinating history. I had no idea!! I may have missed it in my tired and itchy state but can you let us know your family name?
  4. I KNOW that I react to xanthan gum. It is another "starch, could be wheat". Regardless of where it comes from etc I know I react to xanthan gum. Full stop. To be honest I no longer care what medical advice, regulations, laws, chemists, manufacturers, testing etc tells me. If I react I don't do it again. Much more simple and inexpensive. Until the last...
  5. Thanks GFreeMO! Sounds so good ! I need any variety I can get at the moment even just for my mental state!
  6. It is truly the most stinky fruit on the planet. When you walk around the streets of Indonesia, particularly in market areas, you can smell it for miles. It has a very distinct smell so if you are wandering around hungry you just have to follow the smell - honest
  7. It can't be that hard to accept though.. ??? Watching your friend, loved one, mum, dad, neighbour slowly prep'ing to die younger than they should and/or live life ill isn't easy for anyone. I wonder if we could give you some more ideas to help. Here is a couple: * Can you speak with his doctor about this article and what you have experienced/know about...
  8. Open Original Shared Link If you aren't familiar with medscape be sure to read through the tabs : overview - presentation - ddx - workup - treatment - medication - followup. Open Original Shared Link see table 2. and paragraph above that table From the little I've just read I would be getting to know this condition inside out. And you need...
  9. Have you been googling/researching? Open Original Shared Link Interesting in this article particularly given your sons -BW, +ENDO : "Complications An autoimmune disorder such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus,or celiac sprue may develop." I'm not good on the technical/testing business but would I be right in assuming that...
  10. Thanks for the great advice beebs. It is nice to know we can help our kids to avoid the troubles we've had
  11. It might be worth taking out the corn / rice (ie go grain free) for a week or so and then introduce one at a time. There seems to be a few members of this forum who have had to cut out all grains so worth considering. Make sure you stock up on a variety of yummy potatos for variety and to help fill the belly. I'm in Australia so products probably differ...
  12. Thanks Beebs. I was afraid that I'd get the 3 months 4 slices stats but had to ask. Can you let me know who the Doctor is ? I presume in Sydney? I remember you mentioned that you are moving to SW NSW so I wonder what kind of health professionals you will encounter. I hope it works out. I'll be thinking of you and your little one. I hope it goes...
  13. You and hubby will make yourselves sick (literally) with worry over this one. Maybe he and his girlfriend can make an alternative trip ? He'll have someone who cares about him traveling with him and they can take responsibility for plans, research, food requirements & shopping etc. As long as they go somewhere safe (in all respects) then perhaps you ...
  14. I think the SouthEast Asian cuisine is the most gluten-free friendly ingredients of any. Lots of fresh non-grain ingredients and the most tastiest.
  15. Oh Ellie you are delightful! I have an Australian version of association with Indonesian food and have so missed it being gluten-free. Please keep posting! Even if I or others don't respond please know that we are reading/listening
  16. I've read lots of info and posts about staying on gluten for testing, but wonder what other parents have been recommended for their children?? My son is 9 y/o and gluten lite at the moment while I get my own DH under control. Can anyone give me any idea about how much gluten he should eat and for how long in order for his tests to be reasonably accurate...
  17. You guys are scaring me. This is like my worst nightmare. I will now think happy thoughts of dying under a cool breeze, warm sun and beautiful tree in bliss... having never needed a visit to hospital ever again
  18. Hi GFreeMO I've avoided breakfast all my life and have few options that agree with me so here i am surprised that your cream of rice sounds delicious. Can you tell me how you cook it? do you just put it with water or milk or just apple juice, boil on the stove? Thanks in advance! Di
  19. Sounds like you are going to have a good recovery. Welcome to the gluten-free club Keep reading. And watch out for mistakes and tempations. Don't hesitate to get on here if you have any hiccups along the way. This forum has been a saviour many times for me.
  20. They musn't have internet at that hospital, or a phone
  21. I don't trust anything that is gluten regardless of what form it takes. DH goes nuts. A few weeks ago I put bandaids on two areas (one on each hand) that I'd scratched and the skin had split. Within 5-10 minutes my entire hands and wrists felt like a bottle of acid had been poured on them. I ripped those things off so fast and despite them already being...
  22. Wow, you've had a rough year. Now you have to get serious about your diet, cc and make sure you check/replace your bathroom/laundry products. Many have wheat but list them under unusual chemical/additive names. Make sure you read plenty of posts on here - use the "search" at the top right to seek out information. And kissing someone who's just had a...
  23. Hi Cait, I hope you don't have to take the crazy route!! Let us know what happens when you take the corn free meds/vitamins.
  24. Sounds similar to what my face/neck areas are like. When you are at home use an icepack on it to relieve the itching. This is the only thing that actually stops me from itching and scratching. As soon as that appointment/biopsy is over don't touch gluten again (or eat it obviously ). Be as strict as you can otherwise it will get worse before it...
