  1. From what I've read, the positive biopsy is key. It doesn't make sense that your doctor would now doubt those results, especially since you've had a positive response to a gluten-free diet. Blood tests are an indicator, but you could very easily have a false negative result. Perhaps you can ask your doctor for the test results from your biopsy and blood...
  2. 1. Tinkyada 2. Anna's bread mixes (made in my bread machine) 3. Mission corn tortillas w/ melted cheese 4. Annie's Naturals red wine & olive oil vinaigrette 5. LaraBars
  3. I just made some gluten-free Pantry brownies last weekend, and I've been eating them all week with no issues. I cooked mine for about 35 minutes, and I did the knife test before I took them out. The knife doesn't come out clean, but it should come out dry... if that makes any sense. Usually, I touch the brownie on the knife to make sure it feels cooked...
  4. There's a great article on Celiac Disease on the front page of the Wall Street Journal today. Unfortunately I can't post it here, but if you can get your hands on a copy it's worth a read.
  5. The last time I was really sick because of gluten (last August) I was so thirsty for about 24 hours. I couldn't stop drinking water. The extreme thirst was my first clue that I'd been glutened.
  6. I'm having trouble w/ anxiety as well. I really hate being stuck in traffic. All I can think about is what I will do if I need the bathroom. I have to force myself to think about something else, but sometimes it's impossible. BamBam, hopefully your fast paced job will help keep your mind off a potential attack. I know for me, once I get busy with work...
  7. I start at 5am, so I eat breakfast and lunch at work. We have a microwave, so my favorite lunch is corn tortillas with cheese melted in the middle. I usually bring fresh fruit, yoghurt and a hard boiled egg for breakfast. I also keep rice cakes, peanut butter, nuts, Lay's classic potato chips, gluten-free cereal and gluten-free bars (envirokidz) in my desk...
  8. I just read the article and thought they same thing. They printed a chart showing the increase in gluten-free food sales, and I wondered about all the naturally gluten-free food people eat. It was if Celiac's only buy pre-packaged food. Anyhow, it's great to see an article on Celiac in the WSJ. Even better, my co-worker saw it first and pointed it out...
  9. Elonwy - Thanks so much for the info!! I work in West LA. I know exactly where that store is. I'll also check at my neighborhood Albertson's to see what they have. I was just in Whole Foods, and the cashier was so rude that I vowed never to go back. I don't know if I'll be able to stick to that, but at least I can start getting some stuff at Albertson...
  10. I use Kiss My Face lotion. A lot of their products are gluten free. They list the ones that are NOT gluten free on their web site www.kissmyface.com. Look under the FAQ section.
  11. Thought I'd share this email, in case anyone on the west coast loves See's candy like I do (did). Unfortunately, it looks like cross contamination is an issue with most of thier stuff. Thank you for visiting Sees.com. Our Quality Assurance Manager advises that almost all our candies have the potential to cross contact with other foods that contain...
  12. Rachel - I remember reading your early posts, and feeling really bad for you because you were so sick. It seems like now you are doing a lot better – thank goodness. Try not to worry about an official diagnosis. I don't have one either, and it does bother me sometimes. By the time my GI Dr. finally decided to test me for Celiac, I had already been on a...
  13. You will learn so much on this board! I know I did. Everyone is different. I felt better within a few days, but I didn't start to feel REALLY good until 2 months ago (six months into the diet). I don't think I'm back to 100% yet, but I'm almost there. Hang in there. You will probably have good days and bad days.
  14. Elisabet - I didn't noticed any patches except a little bit in front at my hairline, where it thinned out a lot. That area now seems to be filling back in w/ wispy baby fine hair. I didn't totally eliminate anything except gluten from my diet, but I did cut down on dairy - maybe 1-2 servings a day. I found if I eat too much dairy, I get a little GI discomfort...
  15. I too have always had very thick hair and never thought that I would have a hair loss problem. Then, I noticed it coming out in chunks about a year ago - the same time that my previously mild GI problems started to get really bad. Now that I've been gluten free for 8 months, my hair loss is much less. It actually seems to be growing back in the spots...
  16. My local (southern california) Whole Foods does carry some Kinnikinnick stuff. Check the freezer section. Also, some WF's now carry some of their own gluten-free bakery goods. I'm pretty sure they had gluten-free scones.
  17. I'm so sorry to hear these about these unsympathetic spouses. This is new for you and new for them. Hopefully, over time, they will come around. Most of the time my husband is super understanding and careful with his crumbs in our kitchen. But, once in awhile his frustration with my picky eating comes out. He'll tell me that whatever I ate couldn't possibly...
  18. I sent an email to Bayer earlier this month asking about their aspirin. Here's the reply - this looks like a standard reply that probably applies to all of their products. Thank you for contacting Bayer HealthCare regarding BAYER® Aspirin. We appreciate your interest in our product. We do not add any gluten to our products. However, we cannot guarantee ...
  19. I am certainly not an "old schooler". I've been gluten free for seven months now, and I didn't "turn the corner" until about a month ago - six months on the diet. Now I have many more good days than not so good days. Keep reading the ingredients on everything. It took me a long time to figure out which lotions, shampoos, soaps... I could use. This...
  20. I tried so many different gluten-free vitamins, and they all made me sick. The only thing I've been able to tolerate so far is Boost - avoid the choc malt. I realize it's probably very similar to Ensure, so it may not work for you. But, I've tried both products, and I found Boost is a lot easier on my stomach. After I started on the Boost every day, I...
