  1. Glad to hear you're not feeling too bad. Thanks for the tip. Where did you buy the activated charcoal capsules?
  2. Oh that's good to know. I've always heard not to order the sauce; now I know why.
  3. I have eaten fries at In-and-Out with no problem. As far as I know, they only cook fries in their cookers. A burger wrapped in lettuce should be safe.. BUT, I think their sauce is NOT safe. If you order a burger, I suggest telling them that you need a gluten-free burger. Ask them to clean a section of the grill to cook your burger - they may toat burger...
  4. Just added it to my favorites! Too bad I don't feel like cooking tonight. Thanks Patti!
  5. I had such a wonderful experience eating out on Friday night; I have to share. If you live in the south bay, or you are planning to visit the L.A. area, I want to mention the Depot in Torrance. I don’t go out to dinner often, and I haven’t been to the Depot since I started eating gluten-free. On Friday night my family and I tried the Depot. I told the...
  6. Hez - I doubt very much you would come across as a weird person... angry maybe. I would guess they've already received many complaints from angry readers. Anyhow, I'm afraid you're probably right... they don't care what anyone thinks. This may ultimately put them out of business.
  7. I got my magazine last week, and I was very upset when I read this article. I really wish I had never subscribed. In my mind, I've written the editor at least 20 letters telling her what I think. Now I just need to sit down and write it. The people at the magazine need to get down of their high horse and use some common sense. If they don't have readers...
  8. Thanks for posting. I've never seen their products in a store around me, but I just found them on Amazon. I read somewhere on this board that their gravy mix is very good.
  9. You really need to ask at the restaurant. Make sure that the food is cooked in just water, and that it is cooked in CLEAN water. Sometimes restaurants will cook their rice in water and chicken broth. Or, they will cook the veggies in the same water they cook the noodles.
  10. Wow - I've been so busy this week; I haven't had a chance to check the message board. Molly thanks for all the great information! I was hoping to get some info from my sister who works at Stanford, but I can't get a hold of her. I think she is out of town. Anyhow, I just went ahead and registered. I didn't want to leave it too late and have them fill...
  11. I'm glad this type of post has come up again. It's great getting all these new food ideas. My top 5: 1. Misson corn tortillas and corn tortilla chips - I love them w/ cheese, salsa, rice and avocado. 2. Kinnikinnick muffins (blueberry, carrot, chocolate chip) - yummy with a cup of coffee in the morning. 3. Anna's bread mixes - I use my bread machine...
  12. Becky - That's encouraging. Maybe I'll give them a try again. It was over a year ago that I had them.
  13. I tried Nut Thins and got sick. I haven't eaten them since, which is a shame cuz they are really good. Even though the ingredients are gluten-free, I think there's a cross contamination issue here.
  14. Susan - I'll ask my sister about it, can't hurt. I'll let you know what I find out. As far as driving around in the bay area, it's really not bad. I live in L.A, and I think the drivers in northern California are a lot more mellow than here. I'm afraid I've become one of those aggressive drivers.
  15. Thanks Sally! I need to check my work schedule and see if I can get some time off. If not this year, next year for sure - and I'll drag my sis with me. She's suspicious that she may also be gluten intolerant.
  16. Susan - Thanks for posting that. It looks very interesting. My sister is a doctor at Stanford. I could probably get her to come with me, except that she's having a baby at the end of August. Does anyone know if they have a conference every year?
  17. There was a post back in April about Avon. Debmidge posted an response from them. It's a great list of their gluten-free products. Thanks Deb! Here's the link Open Original Shared Link If the link doesn't work, let me know and I'll post the entire reply. I saved it.
  18. This is very interesting stuff. I love bananas and usually eat at least one a day. Except yesterday, when I had a terrible hangover... I wish I knew about the banana-honey milkshake then. Oh Well, next time. Oh wait, there won't be a next time. I'm never drinking again.
  19. Thanks Tiffany - I was also hoping that the new bars would be a different somehow. Oh well. I like having a Larabar on hand, they're very filling.
  20. I have sensitive teeth, and I used to use Sensodyne before I found out it has gluten. I now use Tom's of Maine with no problems.
  21. I like Bumblebars and Larabars - and cashew is my fav. I just bought some new Larabars called Maya. I want to try one, but dinner is only an hour away. Has anyone tired these yet?
  22. Mike - Yes, sounds like gluten. Everybody is different, but I felt better within 3 days of going gluten free. Even though I didn't feel 100% better for almost a year, I noticed a dramatic improvement very quickly. I tested myself w/ some spelt bread after being gluten-free for a week, and I got very ill immediately. That's when I was sure it was gluten...
  23. My hair has gotten a lot better too. Before going gluten-free it was really thinning out, and I have very thick hair. It is now much thicker - like it was years ago.
  24. I usually know within 2 hours if I've been most likely glutened - stomach cramps and bloating. Then, my suspensions will be confirmed the next day with brain fog, stomach cramps, diarrhea, and dizziness. Sometimes this only last a day, sometimes it lasts a week. I think it depends on much gluten I had.
  25. I really like Kinnikinnick's cheese tapioca rice bread (toasted) as a bun substitute. Some of the gluten-free buns I've tried are bulky - too much bread for me.
