  1. Thank you everyone for posting all this great information. I
  2. I have tried products that are produced in a facility that handles wheat, and I have had a reaction. I now avoid products that have this label.
  3. I think the medical community still has a lot to learn about digestive diseases and food intolerances. I
  4. I agree Kinnikinnick Sandwick bread is a good choice. I also really like Food for Life Brown Rice Bread. I suggest that they do not freeze it, if possible. I like to buy it fresh and then freeze it myself. I separate 2 slices at a time with foil, and then freeze it. The slices are really hard to separate once the bread is frozen. The pizza idea...
  5. Deb - Thanks for posting this. I've only read a little bit, and it looks very interesting. I copied the text and pasted it into a word document. I'm going to increase the font before I print it. Thanks for the tip.
  6. I am gluten-free, but my husband is not. He is pretty good about cleaning up his crumbs, but I am still forever cleaning the counters. I also have two different sponges to clean my dishes. One for gluten dishes, for gluten-free dishes. I change my gluten-free sponge frequently, and rinse it with soap and water everyday. I also rinse and scrub all my dishes...
  7. I eat Mission corn tortillas all the time with no problems. The are labeled gluten-free. I believe Mission corn tortillas are made at the same plant as flour tortillas, but on different lines.
  8. Thanks for posting this. I wondered about cc issues w/ Imagine broth. I used a box that is labeled gluten-free for my soup at Thanksgiving, but I felt glutened the next day. Perhaps it was the broth. Next time I'll try another brand or make my own stock.
  9. Yes, have all those tests done on Tuesday. It is good to have everything checked out. I only had a colonoscopy - which came back normal. That helped convince me that I had a food intolerance, and not something else. Good luck w/ your tests! Keep us posted on the results.
  10. Wonderful! I am trying to plan my Christmas day dinner, and my husband wants HB ham. I think I'll try Sam instead this year. Thanks for posting this!
  11. So much of everything on this post rings true to me. I've seen some pretty un-helpful doctors, but I know some helpful ones too. When I told my GI that I had given up wheat and was feeling much better, he looked at me and said "oh Celiac disease? I doubt it." He continued to test me for everything else except Celiac. Finally after I was gluten-free...
  12. Thanks! I think I'll have some tomorrow.
  13. Celiac Disease; A Hidden Epidemic - Peter Green M.D. Dangerous Grains - James Braly M.D. and Ron Hoggan Wheat Free Worry Free - Danna Korn - a more general book, but very good
  14. Last year I stayed at the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa for a work retreat. It was a wonderful place. Ojai is near Santa Barbara. I have to admit though, that I'm not sure how they would be for gluten-free meals. Because I was there with work, I did not eat in any of the restaurants. All of our meals were buffet style. I did find enough to eat, and I did...
  15. You are so right - they should have a chef assigned to making allergy-free meals. That is a great idea. Here I was trying to be understanding about how hard it must be to cook for so many people on the ship... never again. I paid a lot of money for that cruise. Gluten free meals are really not that hard to do. I'm going to go fully armed next time. ...
  16. I had no idea this was on the air Monday.... and my husband watches CNN all the time. Anyhow, I'm listening to the broadcast right now. It's great! I can't see the the video either, but I can hear it. Thanks for posting the info on where to find it. It's a good interview.
  17. I decided to bring this post back because I recently discovered something about Annie’s Dressings. I love their Organic Red Wine & Olive Oil Vinaigrette, and I eat it all the time with no problems. But, I swear the last bottle I bought gave me problems. I didn't want to believe it, but every time I ate it, I felt glutened. So I stopped eating it. ...
  18. Kathy Ann - I'm sorry you had a bad experience as well. But, I think you should try a cruise again. So many people here on the board have had great experiences. Sticking up for yourself is key. Looking back, I should have stuck up for myself more. Like you, I didn't want to get upset and cause problems - I was there to relax. I was also traveling with...
  19. These are probably considered "kids cereals" - but I love EnviroKidz: Gorilla Munch and Panda Puffs. Both are gluten-free.
  20. I got back from a Princess cruise two weeks ago, and I did not have a good food experience. My travel agent contacted Princess 2 months prior to our trip, requesting gluten-free meals. They replied with a very nice letter, stating they would be able to accommodate me. We had traditional dinner seating, with the same wait staff every night. When I got there...
  21. I take Yummi Bears Multi-Vitamins. They are the only vitamin I have found that doesn't make me nauseas. They are free of yeast, wheat, milk, egg, soy, and gluten. They are expensive, but for me they're worth it.
  22. I love my coffee in the morning, and I don't know if I could give it up at this point. Sometimes I feel like it upsets my stomach a bit, but usually I'm fine. I did give up coffee once, about ten years ago. It was hard at first, but after about 3 weeks, I felt really good. Calm and relaxed. Now you have me thinking... maybe I should think about giving...
  23. Amanda L - I'm glad to hear you're feeling better! I started to feel good after a couple days too... but it was still a long healing process. As Mike says, everyone is different. I don't want you to get discouraged if you have a good days and bad days. It took me a year to fully recover. It took time to master the diet, and it took time to heal. And...
