  1. I know a little bit of my shampoo, soap and hand cream can easily end up in my mouth. Better to be safe than sick. Patti - thanks for the gfsoap.com link. I just ordered a travel pack. I can't wait to try it.
  2. Cindy - Thanks for the Oreida link! That's great. I've been avoiding their fries because I just never got around to checking. I also love Pamela's cookies - Yummy. And, it has it's own thread going right now, Kozy Shack puddings are really good.
  3. I don't understand why so many doctors are reluctant to diagnose Celiac or Gluten Intolerance. It's crazy! I tried a gluten-free diet on my own. Six weeks into the diet I told my GI that I started a gluten-free diet and was feeling a lot better. He says "oh, we should test you for Celiac." DUH! Why hadn't he already tested me for Celiac? He’d tested m...
  4. I tired tomato paste once last year and got soooo sick! I haven't dared try any tomato paste or sauce again. I don't know for sure if it was the tomato paste, but that was the only new food I ate that day. Thanks everyone for sharing the brands that are safe. I'm tempted to try one. I really miss it on my pizza.
  5. I always have some Kozy Shack in my refrigerator! It makes me so happy to go into a market and buy foods that state "gluten-free" on the label.
  6. Nancy - Good Luck to you! I love La Jolla. I've been there many times; my sister used to live there. I hope you have a great time. It doesn't sound like you are overly concerned about eating dinner out, but I want to suggest Flemings Steak House. There is one in La Jolla, and they have a gluten-free menu on their website. 7. The only rice cakes I eat are Lundberg's Honey Nut. I keep them at work for a snack. They're not bad w/ peanut butter.
  8. Anna's has great gluten-free bread mixes. I make them in my breadmaker, but I'm pretty sure you can bake them in the oven as well. Open Original Shared Link
  9. Welcome to the board! Wheat-Free Worry-Free by Danna Korn is a great resource. Another great book is Dangerous Grains.
  10. I just checked Newman's Own website, and it looks like their microwave popcorn is gluten-free. Open Original Shared Link
  11. Kiss My Face has a lot of gluten-free products, including deodorant. I use their Liquid Rock. You can find a list of their products that DO contain gluten here: Open Original Shared Link Also, I'm a big fan of Tropical Traditions - love their lotions. Board members have recommended them here before. I haven't tried their deodorant yet, but I plan...
  12. Hang in there, this sounds normal to me too. For me, the healing process was like 2 steps forward, 1 step back. I'd be feeling really great, then bam, I'd feel bad again. Sometimes I could find what caused me to feel sick, sometimes I couldn't. From my experience, as I began to heal, I also got more sensitive to gluten. Keep looking for hidden sources...
  13. Even though distilled white vinegar is gluten-free, I've found that I don't tolerate it well. Not sure why. For this reason, I avoid products that have "vinegar" or "distilled vinegar" as an ingredient. I have no problems with balsamic vinegar and apple cider vinegar.
  14. I noticed them for the first time 2 weeks ago when I was glutened. I've been gluten-free for about 10 months now... strange. The last time I was glutened was in August, and I don't remember having this reaction. The weird thing is, I remember having this type of rash years ago before I was gluten-free. So, it may be something else. I guess I'll know...
  15. It does seem you are dropping the weight fast. Maybe you do need more calories. Have you considered adding a meal replacement drink, like Boost or Ensure. I have not been able to find a vitamin I can take without feeling sick, so I started drinking a Boost everyday. It's really helped me with my energy level and helps me keep my weight up. I lost about...
  16. Beverly - I cannot eat them either, which is a shame - they are yummy! I bought a box about 3 months ago and brought them to work. I ate some for a snack, and the next day I felt glutened. I wasn't sure if the nut thins caused it, so I tried them again a week later... same thing.. sick the next day. I threw the box out. I haven't tried them since....
  17. Hi Brooke - Your symptoms certainly could be Celiac. There are so many symptoms related to Celiac that it's hard to say what is typical. As for lactose intolerance, many celiacs are also lactose intolerant. The damage that gluten does to a celiac's intestines can cause the person to be lactose intolerant. Often, after months of gluten-free eating, celiacs...
  18. Welcome Mochalatta! I know when I started on a gluten-free diet, I started with a very bland basic diet... bananas, apples, rice, potatoes a little chicken. I then slowly started to add other foods back in. Perhaps your son is having a problem with other foods like dairy. Many celiacs cannot tolerate dairy at first. Try putting your son on a gluten...
  19. Carrie - the same thing happened to me this week after being accidentally glutened. I got these chicken-pox-like spots on my back and chest that started to really itch after a few days. I'm guessing it as to do with the gluten. I have had them before, but I never associated them to gluten until now.
  20. This is tough one. Mostly I try to only add one "new" food a day, and then if I feel ill, I assume it was that food. I admit I don't very often go back and try that food again - it's just not worth it to me. Also, I don't eat out very often, so that makes it easier to know exactly what I'm eating. I find eating out to still be tricky. As for brownies...
  21. I just tried Mary's Gone Crackers for the first time last week. I thought they were great! But, of course, I have no idea how they used to taste. It's a shame when companies change products for the worse.
  22. Interesting info. Before going gluten-free I had pain on my right side all the time. I only get it now when I've been glutened. It usually last a day or two.
  23. I love Envirokidz Gorrilla Munch and Panda Puffs. It's sugary stuff for sure, but I that's what I want when I eat cereal. GlutenFreeAl - be careful with Puffins. The Honey-Rice ones are gluten-free, but some Puffin flavors contain oats.
  24. I too started to get really sick last year around the holidays. I continued to get worse until March 05 when I switched to a gulten-free diet. Last New Year I was sick and depressed, this New Year's I feel great. I am so thankful that my health is back... and so very thankful for all the wonderful people on this board! I have spent hours reading your...
  25. There have been a lot of great suggestions in the past on this board. Try doing a search for "lunch". Hopefully some old posts will come up. Anyway, I bring breakfast and lunch to work with me everyday. I bring an insulated lunch bag with an ice pack. My favorites are: corn tortillas with cheese (heat up in microwave) rice cakes with peanut butter...
