  1. I totally thought my dentist was great until I figured out that he had probably never heard of Celiac disease. When I mention it he gets uncomfortable and doesn't say anything. I had two cavities filled last week and when I left I decided I need a new dentist. I guess most dentists don't know much about Celiac but it looks like they'd ask questions or be...
  2. Sorry - our trip was cancelled and now we're going to Cashiers NC in September. I'm now going to search for somewhere to eat there. We will eat at the cabin mostly I think so I'll just need a place for dinner and another for lunch. But the leader of the Charlotte support group said there is no support group in Myrtle Beach as far as she knows. But I think...
  3. Reading this makes me want to retire in Austrailia. Have a great time! Oh and I think Orgran corn crisps taste like corn flavored styrofoam - even the birds, squirrels and chipmunks would not eat it - lol!
  4. If you are going somewhere nice for dinner, why not make the most of it? If you can get something wonderful with only an advanced phone call it will be worth it. Even if you order just a salad you have to bring up your intolerance to gluten, even if you say it's an allergy to bread/flour. Otherwise, if croutons make it onto your salad by mistake and the server...
  5. We are going to a family reunion with extended family of hubby and we have not seen these people in about a year and a half. They all live in small communities and as far as I know most of them have never heard of Celiac disease, much less that I have it. Well an uncle called last night to discuss where to rent cabins and hubby had to explain that we would...
  6. Jerseyangel is right about Grandma Ferdons. I haven't tried them yet but everyone I've met that has loves them and says they are by far the best gluten free bun out there. I'm going to splurge and order them one of these days. I just got used to paying shipping for food so I'm working up to paying overnight shipping for frozen food.
  7. I ditto about Breads from Anna being wonderful. It is a light, fluffy whole wheat type bread. I'm making the Pamela's bread mix today for the first time today so I'll post how it turns out. I've heard it's great as well and since her other items are so great I'm guessing the bread will be pretty good as everyone who's had it stated (on another thread somewhere...
  8. Thanks Jillian for letting us know about the gluten-free bread basket. I was wondering if it was any good. You don't have to toast it even? That is too awesome!
  9. Wholefoods now makes some sun dried tomato bread which is quite yummy. It may have been out for a while but I just found out about it. It tastes almost as good as it smells but of course is not really sandwich bread - just great with dinner!
  10. Just confirming what Jess said - all Crest products are gluten free.
  11. Well I just heard about this last night and now I can't wait to try it. Only thing is I have no need for a cake anytime soon -lol! Apparently they carry this at Whole Foods and/or Super Target here. Also, for those of you that are too lazy to make homemade frosting still, Duncan Hines confirmed to Clan Thompson that indeed their Creamy Homestyle frostings...
  12. Well maybe the same reason Whole Foods now has Gluten Free Bakehouse goods. If Lee Tobin, their head baker, had not been dx'd with Celiac a few years ago - that line would not exist today. Thanks ChelsE for posting the links but I can't find a place to e-mail anyone at Sara's show. Let me know if I'm overlooking it. Sara said something was wheat and...
  13. Last night our meetup group went to a steakhouse for dinner (not Ouback) and our support group leader noticed something I never thought of. He told the manager that servers can't stack plates when it comes to gluten free meals. This is an easy way for cc to occur. There were about 14 of us so the servers probably had three stacked plates on one arm. Everyone...
  14. Oh good then - I'm not totally losing it - lol! GMA has not replied to me and I doubt they will. I have to go through Sara's show I guess to try and get to her. I don't watch her so does anyone know what her food network show is called?
  15. Perfect and thanks!! I found out there is one place in Dollywood that knows what is gluten free and another place that had ribbon fries from a ded. fryer. This is hard to get used to - having to think about where you're going to eat when out of town. But we are on the go alot so I'm getting used to it. I'll check out the rental place you use. This is a hot...
  16. On the Amy's website (www.amys.com) they list in the special diets section why they changed their label. Basically unitl the new rules are passed and become affective in 2008 regarding labeling gluten free items, their stuff will be labeled 'no gluten ingredients'. This change started on all new packaging for Amy's gluten-free items in April of this year...
  17. Well my guess is this guy is frustrated because apparently he was sick for years and years and he was recently diagnosed, maybe less than a year ago. I'm going to try and find his name because I didn't write it down Saturday and the lady mentioned it a couple of times. Anyway, I really do think this could be great for all of us. Okay - the guy is Ed...
  18. Some lady from www.celiaccentral.org spoke to our suport group on Sat. and said the Comcast CEO or CFO (or something like that) was dx'd with Celiac. He is promoting charity event to raise awareness/money for research so he has Fortune and Money magazines doing articles about it. The Money article runs in Dec. issue and Fortune runs in the Nov. 13th issue...
  19. Were is the Black Bear Jamboree - in the town of at Dollywood park? Just found out last night my husband's family reunion is in Pigeon Forge and I don't want to go unless we get to go to Dollywood. I need to rent a cabin or condo with a kitchenette (with a stove not just micro). Can you recommend any place or a rental website you may have used? We are supposed...
  20. Does anyone know if Namaste blondies are like much tastier than their vanilla cake mix? I think I just don't like their line but maybe the two items are nothing alike. The only thing I've had is the vanilla cake and it tasted like it had wheat germ in it - seriously.
  21. I read on another reading Celiac forum about someone who ate there on vacation and loved it. They were not vegetarian if I remember correctly. If you don't have Triumph Dining cards I'd order those or you can print/laminate some for free off of www.glutenfreetravel.com. I had to use both since the Triumph pack does not come with a French or Itlalian version...
  22. I agree that is is easier to have at least two kids with Celiac if any of them have it. I don't have kids but I see my sisters kid fight and aggravate each other. I don't see how one would be gluten free without the other making them miserable about it.
  23. My Whole Foods has been out of Amy's gluten-free enchiladas forever so today I swung by the frozen aisle in Publix (they added several of Amy's things but nothing gluten free or so I thought). So I see the box - I don't see the green type at the bottom corner so I think it's the reg. stuff, not gluten free. Then I look closer and it says 'NO GLUTEN INGREDIENTS...
  24. I think it's worth a try. I think Oprah is scared of the Wheat Assoc. and will never do a show but I'd love to be proven wrong. No one (as far as I know) ever heard back when I started the e-mail Oprah about Celiac campaign last fall. It was quite discouraging.
