  1. How did you find out that you had a problem with dairy or casien or both? Just curious because so far I have eaten cheese and all the diary I used to eat before going gluten-free. So far I have not felt bad in any way or had symptoms like excessive indigestion, painful bloating or bad stomach aches. But from what I've read in a couple of books, it's quite...
  2. Were do you guys get these gluten-free dressing packets? I can't find them at Whole Foods. Do you have to order them online, and if so from what site? I need some myself but didn't realize they would not be in the stores where the gluten-free dressings are. Luckily the only time I've been out to eat so far we went to a place with gluten-free menu items and...
  3. I never had to cook before going gluten-free. My hubby used to be a chef so he did all the cooking until we stopped going out twice a week last month post dx. I saw Gluten Free Panty all purpose flour at WF and it says just use it like reg. flour. It has a lot of different flours in it already. My question is what is the purpose of buying all those flours...
  4. For about a year when I woke up I could not make a ball with my fists. I assumed it was the onset of arthritis but dind't get tested yet. Now after almost 4 weeks off gluten, my fists are only a tiny bit stiff for a couple of minutes after I wake and then they are fine. The only explanation is the lack of gluten in my body now. Arthritis affects many Celiacs...
  5. Thanks lonewolf. I just started that probiotic Culterelle but I'm not sure it's doing anything. Guess I stick with it for a while and see what happens. I'd rather give up gluten than cheese any day so if I have this skin thing forever, so be it. They will have to put me in a straight jacket to keep me away from my beloved cheese.

  7. Thanks! I will look for it today and use it tonight if I find it! Have a great weekend and I appreciate you helping me have a less itchy one!!
  8. I'd just like to add that the only doctors I've ever met worth my time are my current dermatologist (from India) who figured out that I was anemic when I went in for annual skin cancer check of all things. He was new to me and asked a lot of questiosn. I'd seen both my pcp and my gyno about my constant fatique and neither bothered to check my iron. And I...
  9. Oh thanks so much Jen! I did not think they could contain gluten but I'm not willing to guess at this point as to what is safe or not. I'm going to use something right now. My area is pretty small, maybe the back of the head, half way down to the hair line below (maybe 1/5th of my scalp). It was all over but then when I added these topicals, a lot of it...
  10. popoki321 - Wow you are lucky to have such a great friend. I too was touched when my girlfriend told me she was throwing herself a 40th b-day tea party and wanted to know what she could do to help me come and enjoy myself. I appreciated her thoughtfulness so much. I'm taking my own gluten-free scones. gluten-free lemon curd and tea sandwiches made with gluten...
  11. Two years ago I was prescribed two rx sampoos for severe psoriasis but they didn't' seem to help much. Since going off gluten I started using T-Gel shampoo/cond. and they worked better in a week than the others did for two years. My derm. told me that if I did have Celiac (pre dx) then once I went on the diet my skin issues would most likely clear up in time...
  12. Oh I'm so sorry to hear that Nisla. Hope she's feeling better soon!
  13. Rusla - you totally rock!! Can't even type as I'm LMAO!!!
  14. I just figured out that my sister's daughter shows some signs that could indicate Celiac so I'm nicely trying to get her to get both her kids tested. The way I see it, the sooner the dx the better. It's easier for a 4 year old to eat differently than it is a 12 year old. Nisla is being modest....her little girl is precious and she is the most well behaved...
  15. Patti - thanks for posting about Feria being gluten-free as well. Mine isn't always in stock so I get several boxes at a time but it's good to know I have a back up if need be. The biggest thing that frightened me last fall about gluten was several people posted about not finding any hair colors that were gluten free. Being gray at 30 and now white, I was...
  16. Iceberg Vodka is the best vodka I've ever had. It is also derived from corn and cost more than Smirnoff but less than the other potato brands. But it is better to me than vodkas that cost twice the price. What would a girl do if she couldn't enjoy a cosmo now and then..
  17. John Frieda told me this week too that they can not say whether anything in their line is gluten free. I'm givng my products to a freind Sat. Also, since I have to color my hair about once a month I found out that Nutrisse hair color is gluten free. Yea! No other companies I contacted regarding hair colors could tell me if their products were gluten free...
  18. I agree this is inspriational stuff and I'm glad I took time to read it. I don't mind my new diet so far but who knows, I may be on the floor crying for a 'real' pizza next week. But speaking to 'what is normal anyway' I must share the following info. My parents live in a state with high fuel prices. So to save money they drive 20 minutes to get gas...
  19. Speaking of cake, I made a gluten-free vanilla Namaste brand cake in the shape of a heart for my hubby yesterday. I tasted a sliver of the cake before I iced it and it wasn't very good. We went out to dinner last night and I told my hubby we should have dessert out because I didn't have high hopes for the cake I made. When we got home we test tasted it and...
  20. Not to add more confusion to the equation but only my tTg was high and then it was a 10 and a 7 only which is really low. My biopsy showed significant damage blah, blah so I was diagnosed with classic Celiac Sprue (same as disease). My doc only took two samples of my stomach lining but the correct way to preform test when looking for Celiac evidence is 6...
  21. Speaking of tea....I don't want to start a new post but I contacted Revolution teas today. They are sold at Whole Foods and are at many fine resorts and hotels. Their entire line of teas are gluten free. The lady had the answer right on her product info sheet but she wanted to know what gluten was. I gave her an abbreviated lesson and was impressed that she...
  22. I'm wondering if any of you know if the following creams for dermatitus are gluten free. I use a compound cream as stated above but with all I've been going through since my dx I stopped using the cream as I haven't had time to call the manufacturers of the two creams that are mixed to make one. Finally I started the process yesterday - Bristol-Meyers Squib...
  23. Thank you for your replys everyone. Patti I actually included those UofC fact sheets (you mentioned them to me in another post) with the letters I mailed to my family members today. I highlighted the statistics you mentioned so they would not be overlooked. Hopefully when my sister gets back from vacation next week I can discuss my concerns with her in a...
  24. I was diagnosed with Celiac last month. Since then no one in my family has been tested but I only spoke with them on the phone since I have to worry about myself for the moment. Finally this week I'm sending out letters with statistic sheets about Celiac disease included, urging my parents and siblings to get tested. And also for my sister to have her kids...
  25. I went off the pill in August when my hubby's vasectomy doc confirmed the procedure worked. By September I thought I was losing my mind. My hormones were way out of whack and my gyno said the only thing I needed to know about going off the pill (after 18 years) was to take the last pack completely. Wrong!!! Someone on this board recommended a book that save...
