  1. I wear swimming goggles too. LOL! I'm going to try the burner thing. Must be it burns up the oils. My eyes are terribly sensitive to onions.
  2. that pretty much sums up the doctor business. Just because you sound a bit like me let me share some good news with you. It took 2+ years but I am off my medications for an autoimmune arthritis that was happening in all my joints and many tendons. I also had muscle spasms and IBS, post nasal drip, infrequent migraines, ezcema, and various other things...
  3. Scary things? Like they get really healthy? Humans haven't evolved to eat the amount of starch, and sugar, that we're consuming everyday. That's why we're getting all these diseases like diabetes and heart disease. I've pretty much driven my autoimmune arthritis into remission by eliminating starches and sugars. Paleo and SCD are very similar except...
  4. Well, obsessing on your health issues is just going to make you feel worse. You need to divert yourself a bit. Definitely read up all you can (the Internet is good, but don't get mislead by schlocky/quacky web sites). A support group like this is good. But you need to relax and not obsess. My nephew does the same thing. My suggestion for you is...
  5. I'm following The Paleo Diet and find it is easy and enjoyable. Have you ever given up dairy? I've been reading a lot about dairy and acne in the science news blogs. The reasoning behind the Paleo diet is to eat foods we have evolved to eat, not ones recently introduced into the human diet. Both dairy and grains are recent introductions. Dr. Cordain...
  6. Anyone who has watch Mel Brooks movies knows what a shwantz is. This has two meanings! *waggles eyebrows*
  7. Hell yeah! I'd be a second goodyear blimp by now if I ate that stuff. I avoid starches and sugars and focus on meat, veggies, fruit, nuts if I can afford the calories, and a few sugar-free treats I make myself.
  8. You need to see your doctor. That is a sleep disorder. Are you taking any sort of drugs? I know Ambien is famous for issues like this. It can be very, very dangerous as some people start making stuff with bizarre ingredients. Like my brother made a sandwich with dozens of ibuprofen in it. Fortunately he didn't eat it! But people do some really bizarre...
  9. Watch the sugars and starches! A lot of research is suggesting that you can set your kid up for obesity and diabetes later on in life by having a lot of insulin yourself. And you secrete loads of insulin when you eat sugars and starches. So stick to good quality, low starch sources of protein like animal based ones and nuts. Eat plenty of fat, ignore...
  10. There's nothing in gluten, or grains, that can't be easily replaced in the diet by some other food. Humans have only been eating "gluten" for a few thousand years. Somehow our ancestors managed to get along quite well before it came along.
  11. They'll probably just ask your symptoms, check reflexes, ask a lot of questions. Any tests would be scheduled for later. Why does an MRI scare you? It is painless.
  12. Hmmm... beer and wine should have the yeast filtered out. It's a single celled entity so it shouldn't be something that can escape filtering. Yeast is everywhere, it floats in the air as spores. That's how they used to make sourkraut and other fermented things (sour dough), let some wild yeast settle into whatever you're making, it ferments. I would...
  13. Celiacs are at a higher risk of developing other autoimmune disease, those ones you listen in particular.
  14. Despite what doctors think they know, gluten does pass through breastmilk! There are studies out there that prove it.
  15. Gluten in tiny little amounts that seem insignificant to your eyeballs, aren't insignificant to your intestines. It starts off a chain of autoimmune reactions that the effects of which can be detected in antibodies for up to 2 years after you last ingested it by fecal tests. Those antibodies can go just about anywhere in your body, your liver, your brain...
  16. Make your own flour, there are recipes for all-purpose gluten free flour mixes on the Internet. Google for them. Also keep in mind that eating that stuff is totally optional. One can live on whole foods without starchy grains, sugar and all that stuff. Some say it is, perhaps, even healthy.
  17. Oh! That's a different URL. Thanks!
  18. I don't see anything on their website menu about gluten free. Am I missing something?
  19. I don't have an answer for you other than perhaps trying a different company, it can make all the difference in the world. I am in a similar situation. After 20+ years in my field I'm just kind of burnt out and uninterested. I'd love to get back that motivational spark that used to drive me but it is gone.
  20. I told my doctor I though I had SIBO and asked him if I could try the antibiotic and he thought it was fine. So sure enough, a lot of my diarrhea and stuff cleared up... although it came back later. I didn't have to bother with the testing.
  21. SIBO is a very real possibility, whether or not you also have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity. In fact, if you do, it makes it even more likely. Anyway, it might be worthwhile to have the SIBO test done, it shouldn't take long.
  22. I got denied health insurance for having had a thyroid disease (which was treated 20 years ago and not an issue) and having very minor arthritis. I assume it is probably extremely hard to get private insurance if you have any issues at all, and that would include celiac disease. You might look into HIPPA and see if that applies. I think it is about converting...
  23. You sound a lot like me. I had brain fog, thyroid disease, achy joints. Finally got diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis (autoimmune disease). Self-diagnosed gluten intolerance then later dairy intolerance, which was confirmed by enterolab. Went on the paleo diet and all my autoimmune symptoms went away. I feel great pretty good! Only thing I'm...
  24. Wow, for the sake of your child don't stay in a marriage where there is abuse. Do you want to model that that sort of thing is acceptable to her? She'll end up in the same or worse!
  25. You don't need to buy specialty items. Meat, veggies, fruit, nuts, etc are all gluten free.
