  1. Wink, I would gather that people like you and I could probably handle buffets better than most (considering how long we have been diagnosed). My concern is for the vast numbers of newbies. More often than not, they are not in as good a situation to make good decisions. Their ignorance, inexperience and poor judgment make eating at buffets extremely hazardous...
  2. I avoid the buffets like the plague out here. The only time you will catch me at one is for breakfast. If I do that, I only get freshly made omelettes (made in front of me) and fresh fruit. Lunches and Dinners are so hazardous to a Celiac it isn't funny. You have no idea what they use for marinades and spices for the carving stations. The employee...
  3. Happy Belated Birthday Lynne!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, I was "nuking" my hard drive all weekend, oherwise I would have told ya earlier! <<<<<<<<< BIRTHDAY HUG >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Chris
  4. Great point happy girl! Celiacs should only be using "squeezable" mustards, ketchup and mayo. Anything else that has a jar opening can be contaminated by non-celiacs and their idiotic knives - LOL
  5. getting your luncheon meat from the deli is an unecessary risk. Half the time, they use dirty towels and I am never convinced they clean it completely (i.e. free of gluten). Just buy regular deli meats (Carl Buddig, Oscar Meyer, Hebrew National are all usually safe- but make sure to read labels!!!).
  6. i love Mrs. Leepers Beef Strognoff and Chicken Alfredo helpers. i make them on Sunday so I can have an easy lunch all week at work. BB
  7. Jess, It sounds like you guys are doing better, but still need some help. First, if you guys have the money, please buy "Gluten Free for Dummies" on amazon .com. It is a book that is incredibly insightful and will answer most of your questions. Secondly, it would be easier to help if we knew what your mom was eating, if she was eating out a lot...
  8. Harriedlate, If you ever get the chance to go to Phoenix or Sedona, Arizona, you will find that wonderful pizza - its called Picazzo's and its delicious!!! . I've eaten a lot of breads, bagels and muffins prior to Joan's, but even I wasn't ready for the sheer quality of her english muffins (I had another breakfast sandwich this morning). ...
  9. For the record, I just tried Joan's gluten free english muffins. These might be the closest bread product to the real stuff that I have ever had. I toasted them lightly and made my own version of the sausage mcmuffin (with McD's sausage and my cheese and egg). It felt and tasted the same... Yes, Virginia, I will order the muffins again...and...
  10. Honey Baked Hams contain gluten (in the honey glaze) FYI, I have been gluten free for nearly 10 years and I have never gotten deli meats sliced from the actual deli. I do not trust the employees to be able to clean it properly. I eat Carl Buddig, Hebrew National and Oscar Meyer Deli Meats all the time. The actual grocery delicatessen is a gamble and...
  11. Uh, Why wouldn't you just ask for it without the bun? I do that all the time. I love quarter pounders on my "cheat day". Note: "Cheat" means eating fatty food, not ingesting gluten.
  12. I use the Success brand "boil in a bag" rice (Brown and Whte) Its easy and dummy-proof. Just fill the pot with water, heat to boil, add the bag, take out in 10 minutes. Voila!
  13. I used to work at the original Mitchells Fish Market (Columbus Fish Market -Grandview) on Olentangy. If you bring in your own soy sauce, they will make their fish "shang-hai style" for you - they steam the fish and serve it over rice, spinach and hoisin sauce (made with wheat free sauce that you brin in)
  14. Here is the response I got from Bob's Red Mill Chris, Bob's Red Mill is not currently producing gluten free oats. It is our hope that we will be able to bring you gluten free oats in the near future. We are in the process of exploring safe sources of oats where we are confident that the proper practices are in place from field to delivery. We will...
  15. My beloved Buckeyes had a real scare on Saturday. I may have to see a cardiologist after that one! March Madness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. I received my bagels and english muffins on Saturday. I baked them on Sunday and they were excellent! It was so nice to have fresh baked bagels!!! I will order from Joans again!
  17. Adding egg or egg replacer to the sauce helps eliminate the "runny" problem..
  18. Some types of Cherrybrook Icing is gluten free - it says it on the box.
  19. Laura, I did not check into the Roast Beef. I only checked the Italian Sub meats (salami, cappicola, and another italian meat). I will email the Co. BB
  20. No prob, I was just happy to have that type of a sandwich again - it was really good! Make sure you ask them to change gloves and use a clean cutting board - that is a moral imperative to a clean and safe gluten-free "un-wich"!
  21. Before I write about my experience there, I should tell you that I had NO INTENTION of eating there in the beginning. I was merely accompanying a co-worker there. Having said that... Ok, so we go in and she orders her food. The fellow (manager) at the counter asks me if I want anything and before I can answer, my co-worker blurts out, "No, he's a freak...
  22. Ok, you guys convinced me. I ordered the bagels and the english muffins. Yippee! BB
  23. Buffalo Chicken Pizza (cheese, blue cheese sauce, buffalo chicken) Pepperoni, Sausage, Banana Pepper, Mushroom Peanut Butter and Jelly Pizza strawberry and goat cheese
  24. Its amusing how Denny and Dr. Burk are the only two rational characters on the show (and one of them is dead - LOL) Nice to see Christina have a break through, maybe she won't be as "psycho" now... LOL
  25. I named my car "Izzy" after Dr. Stevens... LOL
