ARCHIVED Do You Get Diarrhea?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to shanbr's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It could be a nightshade intoelrance - some folks with celiac disease have that. Eggs, apples, most raw fruit, an abundance of OJ, an abundance of fried food and even champagne has give me the big "D" on occasion. -

ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to RKB-MD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I suppose I understand what you are saying. But if you really believe that, then why even leave the house? Why eat anything that is not a meat, fruit or vegatable? Right? Kinda seems like too much of a "bubble-world" to me... BB p.s. Millet is Gluten Free for the poster above Deb. -
ARCHIVED This Makes Me Mad
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
One question: Do you always follow the gluten free diet or have your friends seen you "cheat" before? I know it sounds stupid, but if they have seen you "cheat", they are less likely to take you seriously. If you follow the gluten free diet, they are being immature and foolish. -

Mrs. Leepers has an easy gluten free beef strogonoff mix. I have found it in Smith's grocery stores (in the organic and health foods aisle) and Whole Foods. BB -
ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to RKB-MD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have read the Food Allergen Law again. I have not seen any exception for any foreign made food starches. Regardless of where they are made, if the starch is made from a source of one of the Allergens targeted by the 2006 Law, then it must be disclosed. Darlindeb, I may be mistaken, but if I remember correctly, the words cornstarch and modified corn starch... -

Here is what I usually get: Appetizer - Edamames - steamed salted beans in the pod Sushi - Usually 6 pieces "Nigiri" style, which is traditional. Normally, I get Tuna, Salmon and Octopus. Depending on how they treat their seaweed (if they put soy sauce on it, which is common - the I don't get it), I sometimes get a Philly roll or california roll ... -

VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
For the record, I ONLY eat Hebrew National Hot Dogs. I have a friend that works in their food science department. He told me all of their hot dogs are gluten free. I also buy the gluten free hot dog buns at Whole Foods made by Kinninkinnick - they are serviceable but not great... -
ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to RKB-MD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can agree on the fact that we should be calling and checking the sources of MFS if we are unsure of the source. I really thought that was Celiac 101 (no offense to newbies). So what where we arguing about if we all agree you should check with the manufacturer if you are unsure? -
ARCHIVED Happy Memorial Day
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Liz, My grandfather fathered my father (weird sentence) right before he was deployed. When they returned his effects to my grandmother, one of the items he had was her last letter and pic of my dad when he was born. I don't know why, but its nice to know he got to see his son before he passed (even if it was only a picture). If he hadnt done that (fathered... -
Besides all of the current men and women of the armed forces and all of the ones who have lost their lives, today, I remember a person I never met. Cpl. Vernon Huddleston (R.I.P.), my paternal biological grandfather. He served our country in WWII in the army air force. He gave his life for our country. He died on July 4, 1942. His plane was...

ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to RKB-MD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
thanks for your kind words Amanda, Liz, Momma and Carla (I should have included Tarnalberry and Richard as well). I seriously have no interest in prolonging the thread. I simply want a citation/source or an apology. Its that simple. Yes, that person did attack me by sarcastically calling me an "expert" and a "senior member". -
ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to RKB-MD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm still waiting for the source or citation that says most modified starch in the USA is not corn based. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Still waiting.... All of you guys know (or most of you guys know) that you should be reading ingredients and calling manufacturers on the items you eat. That is Celiac 101. I find it baffling that people on this website are... -
ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to RKB-MD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Exactly my original point PSAWYER! However, Dr. Guns a Blazing apparently thought Iwas telling a newbie to eat everything that ha s MFS because its all 100% corn based and thus gluten free - which is, of course, absurd... I merely said that most MFS is corn based, which is 100% accurate in the USA. Hopefully, this will not incite another argument on... -

This is the only thing I found... Open Original Shared Link disease=1&gl=us This letter is from the FDA in 2003 in response to a letter from a consumer 2001. ARCHIVED Questions From A Celiac Newbie
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Lins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
"I gained weight prior to diagnosis. Have any of you lost weight? Like in just a couple of days?? I could see where I would lose weight what with only eating fruits, veggies, lean meats, ets. But it seems to be making a huge difference very quickly. Am I detoxing simply by being gluten free? My hair is different and my skin is different. What's the... -
