  1. Thanks for the thoughts everyone! Tiffany (the gluten-free) took me out to Joes Prime Steak and Stone Crab last night. It was a bit pricey, but Good Lord is the food good! We started out with some Florida Stone Crab Claws - if you havent had these, they are wonderful and tender! Joe's breaks them up so its easy to get to the meat! Then we had...
  2. I take 1 pill (25 mg) a day for DH. I also work out 4-5 times a week (everything from treadmill, weight lifting and soccer). It has not affected my "athletic life"... BB
  3. www.glutenfreeinsd.com (for San Diego) for Vegas, the Mirage Casino has some extremely accomodating chefs. Mirage's restaurants like Samba (Brazilian Steakhouse), Kokomo's and Stack Steakhouse have all been accomodating. I haven't a clue about Reno...

  6. 1. Are most cold cuts that are sliced fresh at the deli safe? - Personally, I do not buy cold cuts that the deli guy slices. The chance for cross contamination is too high. There are many deli meats that are gluten free (as always read labels). I eat Carl Buddig deli selects, hill shire farms deli meats and even good ol fashioned Oscar Meyer Bologna. Most...
  7. I suppose its all in one's perspective. I have a few friends that play or have played professional American Football. They trained their entire lives to make it to that point. I certainly have more respect for the hard work they do every day compared to some of the attorneys I work with or Doctors I have seen practicing. Some of those people hurt more than...
  8. Welcome! I would also recommend reading Gluten Free for Dummies by D. Korn. She is very knowledgeable and the book is written in an "easy to follow" way. I just got a new cookbook for X-mas called "Gluten Free Bread Baking" - I haven't used it, but that is only because I am scared of my bread machine...
  9. Funny, I played soccer for Beavercreek. Centerville ruled Ohio soccer for many years. My eldest brothers team at Beavercreek were the first ones "not to lose" to Centerville in Beavercreek's history (tie 1-1) - that was in 1985 - LOL The two schools have had a pretty great rivalry ever since. In my Senior year, we beat Centerville in the Sectional...
  10. Where in Ohio do you live? It will be easier for us to recommend a doctor if we know which part of the state you live in.
  11. Soccer (football for the rest of the world) has grown in popularity over the years in the US. It will never reach American Football ratings or following, but then again, nothing will. The US has started to build quite a few "soccer-only" stadiums and for the most part, they are doing well. The problem has always been marketing and the creation of true...
  12. At Ohio State, I drank a "considerable" amount before I was 21. This occurred at Fraternity Houses, friends houses and bars. At the time, the elder fraternity members in my house allowed underage brothers to drink at parties (encouraged is a better word). However, my National Fraternity's bylaws outlawed underage consumption of alcohol. Over the past...

  15. These issues are always tricky and everyone has an opinion. Take mine for what its worth. My perception on this issue is to look and see what the actual doctors who also have celiac disease and see what they say about it. So far, I have not found ONE SINGLE DOCTOR that says they themselves intentionally eat gluten or think that "its not a big deal...
  16. I havent had a problem with either. However, I refuse to eat their pasta anymore from a quality standpoint. Its only Tinkyada for me for the rest of my gluten-free life. No one comes close...
  17. Health Valley Cream of Mushroom and Cream of Chicken is gluten free... Here is a recipe... Just sub the gluten-free flour for regualr flour... 18. Hmmmm, I worked at a GB and the fries were not cooked in a dedicated fryer. I would double check that with management on that issue. Other than that, I always had the burgers (no bun) and the mashed potatoes without issue...their steaks were also excellent.
  19. Bump Please take the time to do this survey! It affects us all (well, at least the US folks - but we could use the help from around the world!) BB
  20. ACDA Launches Survey to Assist FDA on Gluten-Free Labeling The FDA's proposal for labeling products 'gluten-free' was published on January 23, 2007. The FDA has requested feedback from consumers on several issues relating to the gluten-free diet, and how individuals make choices about gluten-free products. Today, the American Celiac Disease Alliance...

  23. Outback does have a gluten free menu. You can get it at the restaurant or off the website. The Spicy garlic sauce at Buffalo Wild Wings is my favorite. I buy bottles of their sauce all the time! (The Honey BBQ is great too!)
  24. I wish I could agree with ya. But seeing how Frito Lay is a multi-billion dollar company and the gluten free market has not proven itslef to be sufficiently mainstream yet (at least mainstream enough for building new facilities to house dedicated lines), I don't see it happening. What we think is a profitable market and what they think is a profitable...
  25. Marcia, This is just a legal disclaimer. If I was their attorney, I would advise them to say the same thing. Technically, "gluten free" will not have an actual definition until 2008 (i believe). Even then, it will allow for 20 ppm of gluten and under to be gluten free. It does not make economic sense for these companies to switch to gluten free...
