VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to little d's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Growing up I was a HUGE John Elway fan (he played for the Denver Broncos - hence, bronco) - however, I am actually a die hard Bengals and Buckeyes fan Bux = Bucks = short for Buckeyes Bronco Bux I should be Bengalbux or Elwaybux since I am not a Bronco fan, but what do you do? -

ARCHIVED gluten-free Pizza At Uno's Chicago Grill?!?!?!?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Ellen A.'s topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Good for you Jillian! In that situation we all want to jab the waitresses' eye out with the breadstick, but in the end that gets us nowhere. We have a responsibility for all Celiacs to help the "lost" find their way with regard to gluten - LOL Every person we educate increases the chance for our Celiac brothers and sisters to have good meal the next... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Pizza At Uno's Chicago Grill?!?!?!?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Ellen A.'s topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Not to sound critical here, but this happens. It happens a lot. In those situations, you have two options - pout and be mad or you can educate calmly. I used to do option 1 all the time, it does no good and it does not educate the people making the error. Take the time to explain to them what they did wrong. Next time you know to order it without a breadstick... -
I always get the Old Timer Burger, no bun, mashed potatoes (no gravy) and a bowl of baked potato soup...

VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to pnltbox27's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Except for a wheat bread bakery, there is nothing more "toxic" to us than a grocery store deli. You will never convince me that the ladies behind the counter are concerned with CC or if they clean their slicers "adequately" or if they clean their utensils. Its actually pretty gross. Don't take a chance, make your own... Here's a good recipe 2... -
ARCHIVED Lara Bars
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
One thing is a definite about Lara bars. With all those dates in those bars, they keep you regular for a week - LOL -
Just some pieces of advice, 1. Don't go during peak times (11-1, 6-8) 2. When you order your gluten-free lettuce wraps, ask that the crunchy noodles be placed on the side - this differentiates yours from the regular gluten filled lettuce wraps. It sounds strange, but the kitchen at Pf chang's usuallly has 5-10 or so of those wraps being cooked at the...

As with just about anythig, it gets easier as time goes on and you maintain the diet. Personally, I was diagnosed over 10 years ago. I can be downright nasty and sarcastic when people talk ignorantly of my "condition" (this includes my girlfriend's mother).
