  1. I remember Steve from his first "stint" on the board! I always got the feeling that he was a very sensitive, kind person inside. I was glad to see him back, and I hope he dosen't get a swelled head beacuse he now has a thread dedicated to him! Steve, you're a good sport to put up with this
  2. Lauren-- The taste of the muffins I wouldn't say was much different, but the texture, I thought, was slightly better. Not as gritty (if that makes sense) Thanks! I plan to try the breadsticks soon. They sound great I'm going to have to be careful not to go too wild--I'm so excited to be able to bake again--but I still want...
  3. Hi Lauren-- The recipes all look fairly easy and uncomplicated. They use everyday ingredients, too which I like. The author explains that using the starches requires different amounts of liquids, eggs and fats, so I don't think you could substitute gluten-free flours. But, if you don't mind using corn and potato starch, I think you'd like...
  4. Really glad you weren't seriously hurt
  5. Those Mr. Clean Erasers are great for getting spots off walls without hurting the finish. Steve, after you get the worst of it off, I would wash everything down with a mixture of baking soda and water--then rinse. That will also help with the odor
  6. Hi Autumn, The way I understand it is, when the villi are damaged by gluten, they are unable (in some cases) to handle lactose. I believe lactose is absorbed by the tips of the villi, and until those are healed, lactose will be a problem. Some people with this problem will find that after 6 months or so, they can tolerate lactose again. Lactose...
  7. Hi Britni--welcome! The usual answer that I've gotten from a mainstream company is that "any gluten ingredients will be listed". If they say this, all you need to do is read the label. If they out and out refuse to answer your questions about gluten (which has never happened to me), I wouldn't use the product. I've been at this for over...
  8. But, more than likely, you just have to pick your jaw up off the floor!
  9. There are still a few of us who do the "welcome" thing. It's important to those of us who have 'been there' to 'pay it forward', so to speak
  10. I got "The Gluten Free Kitchen" by Roben Ryberg. For those of you who are intolerant to grains (as I am), all of the recipes use cornstarch and potato starch only! They also look very straight-forward and relatively easy. Since I'm also corn intolerant, I plan to use potato starch only. I was so excited with all of the great recipes--things like...
  11. Celia--now we're both dating ourselves--I remember that song! Tavi--That was inconsiderate of him not to let you know he was coming down with something Hope you feel better quicker than he does
  12. Yes--an ENT diagnosed mine, and insurance covered everything.
  13. Sometimes I wonder...my sister was also diagnosed with TMJ, but she dismisses it as well as the fact that she's very possibly gluten intolerant. She does not believe in western medicine at all any more, thus any diagnoses from them.
  14. Very true... My personal feeling on all of this--I'm hoping that what others have stated is true, that these things tend to be cyclical. Since this is the first on-line group I've ever been a part of, I'll take their word for it. It's probably a lot like real life with ups and downs This board was so helpful to me in the beginning--at first I...
  15. Happy Birthday Fiddle Faddle!
  16. I'm gonna have to try that--thanks
  17. I've seen these at my local grocery store-- Open Original Shared Link Haven't tried them, and don't know their gluten-free status... I have had cauliflower mashed--it's very good! I just cooked it until it was very soft, and made it just like I would mashed potatoes. It's an old Atkin's diet trick!
  18. I was just posting about this in another thread! My clenching and grinding has not gone away a year into the gluten-free diet. I was diagnosed with TMJ disfunction and have been wearing a night guard to bed--it helps a lot.
  19. Nini--those sound good! Did they hold together ok?
  20. I've been having palpatations for the last year or so. I have an episode of them almost every day. I asked my doctor about them, and she said that in the absence of other symptoms, they are nothing to worry about. I still kinda worry, though! I wonder if your not catching your breath had to do with some indigestion from the meat? Like you said,...
  21. Christine-- I agree that root canals, crowns, etc. are terribly expensive. My husband just had his second root canal in 2 weeks! I don't know if this will be useful to you, but I get sometimes severe jaw and tooth pain, especially on the left side. This pain, along with neck, ear and shoulder pain led to a diagnosis of TMJ disfunction. I was actually...
  22. I believe the vegetable is called "taro". Corm is the part of the plant it is--sort of a large root. (I think)
  23. Evie--wow, there's more to that sweet lady than meets the eye
  24. I'm sorry, but it was the way he squeezed his chin that got to me Very one-with-nature, in an odd sort of skin twisting way. I just can't help myself
  25. He's on the other site? How the heck did I miss that??? Quite the butt shot, I must say
