ARCHIVED Help! Need A gluten-free Frosting!
jerseyangel replied to mart's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, it's true that the DH Homestyle frosting is no longer gluten-free. I know some of the Pilsbury frostings are safe--not sure which as I make my own. I'd be happy to post a recipe if you'd like. -
ARCHIVED Newbie And Multiple Food Intolerances
jerseyangel replied to CeliacInSanDiego's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My intolerance symptoms varied, depending on what foods I ate. Tapioca gives me an almost immediate reaction, similar to gluten. Soy gives me GI problems and terrible gas several hours after eating. Legumes were the difficult ones to uncover--I ate them often and always seemed to have an underlying feeling of impending D. Grains also give me GI issues... -

Another thought when you brought up color matching--Mango is right that you can mix colors, but also, these minerals are 'forgiving' in the sense that they don't have to be an exact match to work. (Like, say, a liquid would have to be) I predict you will become hooked! -
ARCHIVED Sodium Laurel Sulfates
jerseyangel replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you!!!!That looks great. And that brand is easy to find. No--it dosen't appear to contain SLS--and I love that it also dosen't have tons of ingredients. Have you tried it? I'm going to put this on my "Whole Foods" list -
ARCHIVED Sodium Laurel Sulfates
jerseyangel replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As far as Sodium Laurel Sulfate being in a product, it is always listed as such on the ingredient list. It's almost always the first or second ingredient. -

I forgot to list my facial cleanser--I'm using (and like very much) Zia Moisturizing Cleanser. It's for normal/dry skin. It's detergent-free. Open Original Shared Link I have not found a bar-type body soap that is SLS and gluten-free. -

ARCHIVED Anyone Have Trouble 'stomaching" Magnesium?
jerseyangel replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Bev--I tend to have a difficult time stomaching calcium/mag suppliments. The one that I can tolerate easily is by Standard Process--it's called Calcium Lactate. It was suggested to me by my Kineisiologist. It is available at my local health food store, and the owner told me that a lot of Chiropracters tell their patients to use that brand. -
ARCHIVED Favorite Make-up And Skin Care
jerseyangel replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Julie--I love their foundation, and the other face products like bisque, blush, all over face color, glimmers and the mineral vail. I think the bare minerals look so much more natural than any other type of foundation I have used. The coverage is good, too. There is a small learning curve to applying, but it's easy! I do not care for their eye shadows... -
ARCHIVED Sodium Laurel Sulfates
jerseyangel replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh my gosh! I never connected the two, but my rosacea has also gotten better lately. I was just telling my sister yesterday (we live in different states, so she hasn't seen me) that my face is not nearly as red. My face wash has been SLS free, but not my shampoo and conditioner until recently. With that stuff running down my face, it's no wonder. Thanks... -

Sounds like a great place--didn't the owner's husband post here a while back? Anyway, have a safe trip, Bronco--enjoy! -
ARCHIVED Alert! Csa Guide Misinformation!
jerseyangel replied to a topic in Publications & Publicity
I did the same thing! I bought it last summer--I have looked up a few things, but most of the brands in there are not available in my area. The best source of info about products, in my opinion, is either here or contacting the companies directly. The second is kind of a pain, but you get the most up to date info that way. I looked up page 189 in my copy... -
ARCHIVED Why Are Some People Less Sensitive To Small Amounts Of Gluten?
jerseyangel replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you considered additional food intolerance? I did well at first on the gluten-free diet, and I am also very careful. After a few months, I began to get sick, and I knew I was not getting any gluten. Perhaps there is something else that you are reacting to? It can be anything--a common food that you eat often, even. -
ARCHIVED Newbie And Multiple Food Intolerances
jerseyangel replied to CeliacInSanDiego's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Rachel--Welcome! Your sensitivites sound similar to mine. It has taken me 6 months to figure all of them out. I eat meat, poultry, veggies, fruits (not citrus), olive oil, dark chocolate and water. I do use sugar--but try to limit that. I have been gluten-free for 1 year (today!) and after 4 months or so began to have trouble with the additional intolerances... -

ARCHIVED NestlÉ Toll House Semi-sweet Chocolate Morsels
jerseyangel replied to fanny's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you can do it, try using shortening, and reduce the amount to 1/2 cup. I've made this recipe 4 times now, and this last batch was the best yet. In addition to reducing the shortening, I also tweaked the sugars--I use 1/2 cup of brown sugar, and 4 tbsp. of sugar. I use Ener-g Potato Starch and more chocolate chips than the recipe calls for. I bake for... -

ARCHIVED So Confused
jerseyangel replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sorry you're feeling so lousy today. Your toothpaste is safe, by the way! I remember during the first couple of months on the diet, I would wake up and both of my hands and wrists would hurt. My intestines would make noises, and hurt and get pressure for no apparent reason. Hope tomorrow is a better day for you! Oops--don't forget your vitamins -
ARCHIVED Can You Be A Celiac With No Family History?
jerseyangel replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
To add to what Vincent said, there could be family members in the past who had it, but attributed the symptoms to something else. I believe that's the case in my family. While I am the first diagnosed Celiac, there are stomach problems and autoimmune diseases on my mom's side. -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Know Of Any Gluten Free Childrens Products, Shampoos Etc?

I would recommend California Baby, too. I was using the shampoo and bodywash myself for a while! I still use the Sensitive Skin Lotion and sunscreen. Good stuff -
ARCHIVED Let The Tests Begin: What To Ask For Specifically
jerseyangel replied to SuperBeck's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Superback--Sounds great! That allergist sounds like a keeper. I was diagnosed by a gastro., but I see an allergist who is also interested in treating the whole person. He did the allergy scratch tests on me, and guided me through an elimination diet--he even explained how my reflux was all tied in with my breathing, and digestion. That reflux is all but... -
ARCHIVED So Confused
jerseyangel replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Take heart, Lister. It is very common to roller coaster especially during the first few months. It just takes time. When I finally got diagnosed, I also thought that I'd go gluten-free and get better--just like that. Didn't happen. It's taken me a good year to feel good more or less consistantly. Just stay the course--you're doing great!
