  1. My aunt always kept her butter on the counter in a covered butter dish. You can also get butter boats at QVC. The have some nice ones, too.
  2. Although, sadly, I'm off grains now, I loved their brownie mix, pie crust mix, gingerbread spice cake mix, cornbread mix, cake and cookie mix--really never was dissapointed in anything by them. I tend to be very sensitive, and had no CC issues with their stuff at all.
  3. My money would be on the vegetable spread, too. For cookies, either butter or shortening is best for consistancy.
  4. Yea--I was thinking the fiber and also possibly the nuts. Sorry you got so sick!
  5. Albertsons (Acme near me) are very Celiac friendly--they have their own gluten-free list that they will send you. I'll bet if you called your local one, they could tell you if theirs is safe. I emailed them recently about a meat product--the bacon-wrapped filets. A rep called me with the answer--and he was a Celiac, too! Good luck on the chicken quest...
  6. Tiffany yes!! that's just what I and my husband were saying this morning when I read the original post to him.
  7. Well everyone, I have done it again! This time, I pinned spam here on the board. Yep, I read it, and just went ahead and did it without it even registering. Just yesterday, my husband and I were shopping, and I had so much trouble understanding a somewhat complicated transaction (a return/discount/account opening/re-purchase) that I embarassed myself....
  8. Yes, Radman, please stay around. There is so much to learn here! I stumbled onto this site 2 months after my dx. I had no idea about checking my products, cross contamination, or that anyone else was experiencing exactly what I was going through. I was lost after my dr. told me to go on the gluten-free/dairy free diet, gave me an outdated food list and...
  9. Gointribal--That is a good question! I have wondered that, myself. One thing I remember is that several years ago, a friend and I did the Atkins diet together. When I started to eat breads again, I did notice that it didn't seem to agree with me. But while on the diet, I was not anywhere near gluten-free, just cut down on the carbs and breads and things...
  10. You could email Scott, the admin. Either go to the home page and click on admin. or go to info@celiac.com.
  11. Hope you feel better soon! I now read the ingredient list from the end to the beginning. For some odd reason, it makes me slow down and read every word.
  12. I my experience, yes. I seem to be more sensitive to smaller amounts the longer I'm gluten-free. In addition to that, I have figured out that I have additional food intolerances. My advice to you right now would be to stick to naturaly gluten-free foods--go very easy on packaged foods and gluten-free breads. As you feel better, add in more variety a little...
  13. Lanie--good luck with the gluten-free trial! If you need any help along the way, don't hesitate to ask! (Allo--my kitty--says thanks!)
  14. Guhlia--Hi, I first want to say I'm sorry for the problems in your family. It must be so difficult for you to watch your parent separate. A couple of thoughts-- There is family history, his cousin and you. Also, the brain fog and depression (that's what it sounds like to me). Not every Celiac gets digestive troubles, and given your dad's disposition...
  15. Thanks--I plan on calling them on Monday, too If Somebody knows, I'll get some tomorrow.
  16. Hi Lanie--I was diagnosed last June, but have been sick for over 20 years. For a long time, my only symptoms were nausea and dizziness. I was misdiagnosed with sinus infections because of it. I actually was anemic and Celiac. I also would get D from eating, but never connected it with anything else--I was always told, as a child, that I had a sensitive...
  17. Does anyone know if Rembrandt Canker Sore Toothpaste is safe? I'm on a misson to use products that are free of Sodium Laurel Sulfate, and it seems to be in most toothpastes. Thanks!
  18. Betty, That's the kind I have. It's potato starch. The fact that the word "flour" is in the name is confusing. If your recipe calls for "potato starch", you can use this. If the recipe calls for "potato flour", you need to use another product. They are not the same--the starch is much lighter.
  19. I think the germ is taken from the kernel of something--probably a grain. Some creams have wheat or oat in them, so I wouldn't chance it
  20. Potato starch and potato starch flour are the same things. Some companies just label differently. Potato flour is different--it's much heavier and can not be used interchangably with the starch.
  21. I went gluten-free in June of last year. After getting the gluten out of all foods and personal care products, de-glutening kitchen, etc. I did pretty well until December. At that time, I began to have reflux and indigestion--which is strange because I had never had that before. Also, some of my D related problems resurfaced. Since then, I found (through...
  22. Dr. Green said in his new book that if you have a diagnosis of DH, you have Celiac.
  23. Hi--If you have a Whole Foods nearby, they have their own line of baked goods called The Gluten Free Bakeshop. The sandwich bread is great toasted, it is even good untoasted. The cinnamon raisin bread is as good or better than "regular"--toasts great. If you have to go a distance to one, you can call ahead and order what you want--they will hold it in...
