  1. To further confuse the potato flour issue--potato starch and potato starch flour are the same thing. Potato flour is different.
  2. Michael--This is exactly what my allergist told me. I had scratch tests for foods and environmental allergies very recently.
  3. Butterfingers are gluten-free. They don't use regular corn flakes, they use confectioners corn flakes--just corn.
  4. I don't know if I'm technicaly allergic to strawberries, but I avoid them because they cause GI as well as skin symptoms for me. Nothing major, but I don't eat them thinking if I do, it will get worse.
  5. You know? I haven't had a drink in so long now, that I forgot. Wine also is a trigger for me. I get very red and hot from one cheek straight across to the other.
  6. Jnkmnky is right--also, almonds are a good source! I eat no dairy, but get my calcium from foods. I also take calcium lactate. Despite the name, it has no dairy in it!
  7. The poor thing--hope she is better real soon
  8. Quite the contrary--I love hearing about such things, it gives me hope
  9. Rinku--It interesting how your symptoms mirror mine when I was younger. You previously said that you feel dizzy a lot (like you could faint). I had this for years, along with progressively heavier and painful periods. This began in my teens, and went on (except for short periods after the birth of 2 children) until 2 years ago. I just lived with it, which...
  10. I like Lipton Decaf. tea with honey and fresh lemon--good for the throat
  11. Carrie--You never cease to amaze me with your recipes! I love scalloped potatoes, and you discovered a way to make them with no grain or dairy at all. I am so making this--THANKS!
  12. Acme (Albertson's) near me carries the allergen free Ian's Chicken Nuggets--
  13. I get the hip pain, too. It was so much worse before I was diagnosed. It would hurt to turn over in bed. Slowly, over several months gluten-free, it has gotten a lot better. Mostly it's stiffness now--especially in the morning.
  14. Oh Laura--Sorry your conversation with your mother got you down. We know just how possible it is to be sick from "just the amount in a pill". Actually, even less will do it too . Good thing you called and checked--now you will start to feel better for real!
  15. Yep Nancy--I agree! Except for the eggs, that's how I eat.
  16. Thanks Claire!!
  17. Mike--Thanks!! I am going to definately try the crushed Lay's in my meatloaf. I tried instant potato flakes, and was less than thrilled. (can't do grains) I love meatloaf, and have been craving it again, so I'm going to give it another try . PS--What a nice husband you are--my best to Darcy
  18. CC will make me sick for 3 weeks. I'm just over the last episode. I avoid gluten, anything it touches, etc. like the plague. I din't think I'm paranoid--it really does make me that sick!
  19. Jen--I had never heard that steroids had anything to do with rosacea. I took steriods many times--oral as well as injected. Interesting....
  20. I was wondering about the corn syrup--I've been eating Whole Fruit Sorbet at night lately, and notice in the morning, uncomfortable cramping and not quite normal #2. I can't eat corn, but thought I could get away with the syrup. Does it give anyone else problems--aside from the fact that I know it's not the best thing for people anyway?
  21. I use raw sugar, honey, pure maple syrup--depending on what I'm making.
  22. If I had been diagnosed at 9, instead of 49, I may not have developed the additional health issues that I now have.
  23. Yes, that's the way I look at everything--"will there be a bathroom handy"? I really need to get some exercise....
  24. I agree that the gluten-free diet is not dangerous, and can't think of a way it could hurt. I do understand your reluctance, though, after hearing that from the doctor. This is your dad, after all! I would seek a second opinion.
