  1. I would like to be able to bake something once in a while. Since I am sensitive to tapioca, soy, legume, and even rice, I was thinking about doing a mix of almond flour, sorghum flour and potato starch (since these are ok for me). Since I have no experience in working with almond and sorghum flours, would this mix work ok for baking? I used to be so good...

Yea Rusla--we're all in the same boat on this one. Great news that you found a knowledgeable doctor--hang on to that one
  3. B--So sorry about your mom. I love robbins, too and I'm so glad that she sent a few your way
  4. I'm just guesing here, but did the sauce have any tenderizers in it--like papya or pineapple or something similar? I get the feelings in my mouth that you describe when I eat those things as well as I got them when I took a chewable digestive enzyme that contained them. Without seeing the list of ingredients, it's hard to say--but it sounds to me like oral...
  5. Kathleen--Great to hear you're making such wonderful progress! Amazing what can happen when you get rid of the gluten. Enjoy the support group meeting--keep us posted on how you're doing
  6. Thanks! There are so few "quick" things that are gluten-free. I'm going to buy a box the next time I go shopping and make some McCain's fries to go with them!

I know Donna--your point is well taken about how your mom would never question a doctor. After thinking about this (and fuming) last night, I really think that my mom's doctor did the one test because he knows that my mom will never question what he says. She is a very compliant patient--will do or take anything she is told to by him. Last year, she could...
  8. I'm glad I saw this--Saturday, I saw Ian's chicken nuggets at Acme. They were marked allergen free as well as gluten and wheat free. I didn't buy because I hadn't heard anything about them--and they were over $4 for the small box. If they are good, I want to try them--just don't want to have to end up throwing them out. Anyone who's had them--are they...
  9. Rache--I have the same problems with gas. My GI, when I mentioned it to him, told me to take Phazyme--I find it helps. If you want to try it, keep in mind that the softgels are gluten-free. The fast acting ones are NOT. My gas can cause nausea, too--especially while eating for some reason. Feel better
  10. Shannon--I use Vance's Dari free--it's a potato based milk type beverage. It's very good--I know some others on here use it for their kids. I can't handle soy or rice, so it's been great for me. Open Original Shared Link
  11. I'm so excited for you! I had my first son with no painkillers at all (it was 1981). The labor was 8 hours long, but not too bad until the last 3 hours or so. The contractions were stronger than any D related cramping, for me, but I breathed and clenched and squeezed my husband's hands until they had my nail marks in them and got through it ok. I was...

    ARCHIVED Amazing Stupidity

Well, I spoke with my mom today and we got talking about the fact that she shares a lot of my neuropathy symptoms. She said--well, the tests were negative, so that's that. After a little more conversation, I get confused--I ask her if she happens to have the test results handy. A couple minutes later, while I talked to my dad , she reads the results-...
  13. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you
  14. I know how you feel--really! But it's so easy to get the shampoo in your mouth that, to me, it's not worth the risk. I didn't pay attention to my products the first 2 months or so gluten-free. I didn't know about the risk at the time. When I did finally go through my products and stopped using those with gluten in them, I felt better. Up until then,...
  15. Sorry Tiffany--I use Neutrogena Lip Gloss. To tell you the truth, I don't know about any of the others except the Bare Escentuals. The lipstick situation is confusing to me, so I stick with what I know
  16. Thanks Karen--I did the survey, too.
  17. Robix--That was too funny! Have a wonderful weekend. PS--Glad you found us, too

Tiffany--That is terrible! And I agree with the chemo analogy. God forbid someone has to go on a gluten-free diet to save their life--but if you need the drug/surgery--go for it! And Chelsea--I so agree--if I can aquire this much information and knowledge on the subject, with my limited brain capacity, why the hell can't a DOCTOR do at least the same thing...
  19. I've not had problems with Argo, either.
  20. Jennifer--Glad you asked! I actually bought it a while back--not thinking. Anyway, I did call before I took it, and was so glad I did
  21. The Gluten Free Pantry Pie Crust Mix is very good--as good if not better than regular pie crust. The mix contains no soy or dairy, you add your own eggs, shortening or oil and I think sugar.
  22. Mine were high--I had blood work done after 6 months on the diet, and the levels had returned to normal.
  23. Before I was gluten-free I had terrible night sweats. They were much worse when I was in my 30's. I would wake up in the middle of the night totally drenched. That was during the time I was taking lots of antibiotics and steriods. Now, I'm getting them due to menopause--and intrestingly, these are not anywhere near as bad as the ones I used to get.
  24. Dee--I'm really glad that the board has been so helpful to you. Keep reading anytime you get the chance, and don't hesitate to ask any questions you have. Hope your future DIL is doing better
  25. The Extra Strength Rapid Release Gels are NOT gluten-free. I verified that by phone. They are not the same as the Extra Strength Gelcaps. I use the ES Gelcaps.
