  1. I use products from The Gluten Free Savonnerie (www.gfsoap.com). I was getting sick from my hair gel that contained wheat. My hair had gotten very dry and had begun to fall out--(I was getting lots of it between my fingers every day in the shower). I'm sure a lot of that was due to my being sick. I like that the shampoo and conditioner I use now are even...
  2. Gee--another thing I would have never suspected was connected! I don't wear glasses, but I do wear sunglasses a lot--I'm very sensitive to the sun--and my lashes always touch the lens (it's annoying).
  3. I agree--because the disease is food-related, most people assume that just avoiding wheat will take care of it. The malabsorbsion issue is not recigonized enough (in my opinion) for the physical and nerological damage that it causes. The gluten-free diet, in my case, has caused great improvement, but I have heard from Deb and others that my neuropathy may...
  4. Jackie--Eggs can definately be a problem for some people. I am very sensitive (although not allergic) to them. About 4 hours after I eat eggs, I get the absolute worst nausea--and it will last for several hours. It's far worse than the nausea I get with a gluten reaction. I can handle say, an egg used as an ingredient in a recipe that makes multiple servings...
  5. That was a mistake--except for the crispy ones, M&M's are gluten-free! There was a pages-long thread on it not too long ago.
  6. You can either go to the home page and click on 'admin' and send him an email, or go to: info@celiac.com.
  7. Charlie--Always best to know what you're dealing with. We're all behind you--
  8. Thanks for the tips--I have done better the last two days, now that I've put my mind to it. The tip about drinking a big glass of water in the morning before anything else is a good one--that one goes down easily .
  9. Jen--I agree with your husband! Living Without sounds kind of pitiful . Love the mag. though, and have been meaning to subscribe--will do that today while I'm still thinking about it. Your new picture is really cute!
  10. I come from an Italian family. We used to have "pizza fritte"--fried pizza dough on Sunday nights sometimes. My mom or grandmother would cut sections of the dough, stretch them a bit, and fry them in a frying pan with a couple inches of oil. We would then dip them in sugar and eat--yummy
  11. Lynne--I always get Living Without at Whole Foods. I've never seen it anywhere else. It only comes out 4 times a year, maybe the person you spoke to is new?
  12. Or a steroid injection--years ago when they all thought my problems stemmed from sinus infections (and no nasal symptoms, I might add) I used to get Decadron injections in my lower back The anti-inflammitory effects would last for 6 weeks. During that time, I would feel better. The scary thing is, some of that stuff is probably still floating around in...
  13. Claire--Definately going to read this latter--this is a subject I'm very interested in
  14. Tiffany--Good that your mom got an answer and can now begin to heal. You will be a big help to her. The day of my biopsy, the doctor told me to begin the gluten free/dairy free diet that day. He didn't mention any other restrictions.
  15. Thank you! I just love Rita's--we have one near us
  16. As a person who knew very little about the internet, and even less about Celiac when I literally stumbled onto the board while trying to do a Google search, I think it's a good thing
  17. Jen--Wow--great news about your tests! Way to go! Can't help on the follow-up biopsy, haven't had one yet. I am looking forward to your findings regarding food intolerances and leaky gut
  18. That IS good news! Keep us posted on his progress
  19. Jillian--Sorry, I don't know about how they're made, but when my husband and I go to NYC, the smell of those nuts make my mouth water as we walk around
  20. Tiffany--We really liked the Gluten Free Pantry Pancake Mix. Actually, all of the things I've tried from them, I've liked. And, I know what you mean about the Lara Pecan Pie bars--they are my new favorite thing. The hamburger buns I liked the very best were from Grandma Ferndons. They were so good--the only thing is the shipping is like 20.00!
  21. My rib pain, I believe, is caused by my reflux. I get a lot of trapped gas right below my ribcage, and frequently it moves upwards and then I get it in the collarbone area.
  22. I'm glad I'm not the only one who is confused by this.
  23. I use Badger Balm--the kind that comes in the tube like chapstick. My Whole Foods has it right near the registers.
  24. My 6 month follow up consisted of the dr. asking how I was doing on the diet, how was the D, and that was about it. I tried asking him about the reflux I was having, he felt around a little, told me to take Phazyme. He was also uninterested in talking to me about additional food intolerances. He told me to come back in a year. I can hardly wait. Hope...
  25. Yep--the basics are the way to go right now. After the symptoms subside somewhat, you can try (slowly) some more processed things and see how you do. I still do the best on whole, naturally gluten-free foods.
