  1. I went to Linens & Things and got a set of their own brand of stainless steel cookware. It was a nice variety--all the pans were useful sizes. I had looked around a bit and thought the quality was good--18/10 weight with heavy copper bottoms. The whole set was, if I remember right, around $108. I opened an account that day and even got an extra %...
  2. Ya live and learn, Vincent! I made the same discovery a couple months ago--and went out and bought all stainless steel pans. Hope this helps put an end to the accidential glutenings
  3. I lived in Lawrenceville--just down the road from Lilburn--for 7 1/2 years! Welcome
  4. Hi 4 tomorrow- 1--There are lists here with cosmetics and personal care products. You can do a search in the Products forum. Lots of info there. 2--After preparing foods with gluten for my husband and son (usually just sandwiches for their lunches), I am careful to wash my hands well. Just warm soap and water. And don't forget to wash down any...
  5. I used to get the "breakouts" on my chin--always below the mouth. They would start out as sore spots under the skin, and then grow to look like large pimples--they were painful. If I ever tried to pop them, they would turn into ugly sores. That used to happen frequently, but not all the time. The strange thing is, they would reoccour in exactly the same...

    ARCHIVED Would You Believe?

Claire--So happy you found this guy! Thanks for posting about your appt. His answers to your questions and his opinions were interesting, and encouraging. I took note of his '2 year' healing time--could answer why my progress is up and down after 8 months.
  7. If it ain't broke, don't fix it
  8. You know, you can't change someone else--but you can change your response to them. Your mom believes that she is fine now and since she feels well, sees no need to follow the diet. She was never tested--so either she is intolerant or Celiac but has no symptoms, or she isn't. Since you've been Dx, you know how inportant it is to be 100% gluten-free. Do...
  9. I was wondering the same thing--I don't remember ever seeing the name or a post. There is no cure for Celiac.
  10. Hi Rachel--when I saw you posted just now, I was interested to see how you did at the Dr. Sorry you have to wait another week. Bummer, I know. Keep your chin up--just remember-- you have a dr. that is interested in finding out what's wrong. That's huge! You're going to get to the bottom of it, I just know it
  11. Nini--I know...I feel bad for your little girl . With all the new light that is finally being shed on food allergies and intolerances, it's hard to believe that a huge co. like Mc Donalds would actually add wheat into something. (Or, like I said, admit it).
  12. I was thinking--someone said that maybe it was because of the new labeling law. If that is the case, maybe you are right about that.....something to think about

    ARCHIVED Whey Protein

Lemonade--I have no experience with whey, but anytime you are not sure about any product, it is wise to call and check it out yourself.
  14. Yes Susan--you probably saved a lot of people from getting sick tomorrow!
  15. The answer to how much time really depends on the person. Some have to run to the bathroom almost immediately, others don't feel it for a day or two. I usually begin to get sick after two hours. Since he spent the weekend with the Grandparents, maybe he got cross contaminated there. Also, four weeks is not a long time, in terms of healing--it's not unusual...
  16. Vincent--that is so funny! Why would they change now?
  17. If you have a Whole Foods nearby, their Gluten Free Bakeshop Sandwich Bread and Cinnamon Raisin Bread are very good. I go along with Tinkyada as being the best pasta I've tried.
  18. yeast is gluten-free corstarch is gluten-free
  19. When I eat fresh pineapple, the roof of my mouth burns. I never noticed any bumps--never looked, though.
  20. Michelle--I like the ideas you had for putting my experiences into a story coming full circle. I will proceed with that concept in mind. I love the 'many voices coming together to tell a story about Celiac" feel. I could see it as being a poignant collection of essays about different people, from different places, with different circumstances, but all...
  21. Michelle--How exciting that Dr. Denzin is on board and the project can move forward! I have been thinking about what I could contribute, and I think that I would like to write about the 20 or so years leading up to my diagnosis last year. I was mis-diagnosed many times and had to endure years of unnecessary medications, teasting, and procedures. It was...
  22. I have noticed a sensitivity to a number of foods since being gluten-free 8 months now. I was fine with rice until recently--it seems to bring on my eczema. Soy and tapioca are other things I can no longer tolerate--those cause stomach pain. Eggs, I have had problems with for years--but not my whole life, probably the last 10 years or so. With eggs, I...
  23. I have gotten relief with digestive enzymes. I use Whole Foods brand--they state gluten-free on the label, and do not contain malt diastase. Many times, it's not a good idea to take an antacid, the problem may ba a lack of acid. If vinegar seems to help, that would indicate a lack of acid. I would suggest enzymes, taken right as you start to eat a meal...
  24. Thanks Rachel--I ended up discontinuing the digestive enzymes that had the malt diastase in them. Not because they made me sick, just to be safe.
  25. I wanted to say two things here--this is the thread I stumbled on last fall when I was looking up malt diastase on the internet. It led me to the forum--the rest is history . The other is, so is it or isn't malt diastase safe? After reading everything here, again, I must be thick--I still can't tell
