  1. Thanks for all the input. I went ahead and tried two of the Utz brands: the Mystic plain salted and the Natural lightly salted (both stated they were gluten-free). Unfortunately, they did not agree with me. But I'm one of those super-sensitives whose had trouble with all brands of potato chips. Even the one brand I was able to tolerate (Hard...
  2. Yup..hang in there. Your body needs lots of time to heal. It took me five months of being absolutely dairy-free before I felt the results. But the long wait is worth it.
  3. I personally have had lots of trouble with garlic powder and garlic salt, but don't know anything about McCormicks. It might be a good idea to contact the manufacturer and ask them if the garlic powder is gluten-free (or if it is processed in a facility that processes gluten containing foods). Can't hurt. Hope this helps and you are feeling better...
  4. Hi, Has anyone tried the whole cooked rotisserie chicken (plain) from Whole Foods? I've tried it a few times and am not sure about it...but am wondering how anybody else has reacted. Thanks
  5. I just had a very bad experience with this exact same issue. I was buying my raw almonds in bulk from a health food store where they sell their bulk products in separate bins. I started finding flavored (and glutened) nuts mixed in with my raw organic nuts. I went back to the store to complain and actually watched an employee take ALL the almonds scattered...
  6. I noticed some bags of Utz potato chips have a statement that says: this is a gluten-free food. But their website says they are produced in facilities that process other products that may contain gluten. Before giving them a try, I was just wondering if anyone eats the plain flavor regularly....and if they are ok. thanks
  7. The best way to deal with this is to just say no-thank you, and then change the subject every single time by asking him a question that is NOT related to food. this way you don't argue with him, you get off the subject of food altogether, and it gives your dad the same answer each time to his questions. He will eventually just stop asking you. Start...
  8. Newmarket has quite a few huge grocery stores (Loblaws, Dominion, No Frills, etc) where you can buy all your fresh fruit, fresh veggies, safe deli meat and cheeses, dried pepperonies, etc. There's a great Swiss Chalet for rotisserie chicken (I can't remember the street name, but it is off of Yonge Street near the new movie theatres). In that same complex...
  9. Have you checked with the pharmacist to make sure there is no wheat starch or other gluten in the Ativan?

    ARCHIVED Curry Powder

According to the Canadian Food Labelling Authority website, spices (including pepper) may contain wheat and therefore may contain gluten. Open Original Shared Link Quoted from the site: They go on to suggest calling the manufacturer. Hope this helps.
  11. thanks for the info and the links...I'll dig a bit deeper.
  12. I suspect a neice of mine of having celiac (she has not yet been tested...long story). She's almost 12, and over the course of about 6 weeks lost a substantial amount of hair on her head and continues to lose it. Is hair loss related to celiac disease? thanks

    ARCHIVED Curry Powder

In Canada, sometimes white and black pepper can contain gluten. Not sure about the US
  14. Not sure if this was mentioned....but could it have been powder from the gloves?
  15. Have you tried HardBite plain potato chips? they are made in BC. They are the only ones I can eat and not get sick.
  16. Hyperinsulinemia can be complex to diagnose. See if your doctor would be interested in doing a 3-day walking glucose test which automatically tests your bloodsugar every 3 minutes. Not sure how they do this test today. Years ago they had to put you in the hospital for 3 days, but I doubt they still do that. As for glucose monitors......don't be freaked...
  17. Whew! Thanks for your understanding. Now I can imagine these special little dedicated green pizza ovens set aside in every pizzeria. I always think of gluten-free things with the color green. They probably also have special green pizza cutters and green pizza pans. I bet the cook even uses green oven mitts. Don't look at me like that. A girl can...
  18. Hmmm, I was at a restaurant which I won't name here, but their initials are The Westin Hotel Breakfast Lounge in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. Anyways, during breakfast, I got to talking to the waiter and told him I had celiac disease. Well, he told me they carried lots of great gluten-free breads and would I like some toasted with my breakfast. I declined...
  19. I looked up the product you're using and found a website that listed the ingredients which included Natural Flavors. Sometimes natural flavors include gltuen. It is worth calling the company and asking them straight up if their natural flavors are gluten free. Sometimes a product can say that it is free of gluten, but what it really means is that they...
  20. I just spent the weekend away from home, and here's what I did (we travelled by car): I bought a portable soft cooler that is enough to fit about 6 pop cans. I put in two of those frozen cold bags and filled it with: -baggies of veggies (celery, carrots, red peppers, etc) -a couple cold hard-boiled eggs -some home-baked cold chicken pieces -a baggie...
  21. You can't go wrong with crispy bacon and raw red pepper strips. Cold boiled eggs are okay. Potato chips. Popcorn. Guacamole. Leftover anything from dinner reheated in the microwave. Hot rice cereal with chopped almonds. Home roasted almonds. Hope these things help!
  22. I googled the KayBee gluten-free perogies mix, and came up with this info below: (note that I've never personally used the company or products myself...but thought I'd just find the contact info) KayBee Gluten-Free Products PO Box 629 Cudworth, Saskatchewan S0K 1B0 Phone: (306) 256-3951 Fax: (306) 256-3424 e-mail: kaybee@sasktel.net Product...
  23. I remember seeing a similar post a while back where everyone was posting their story. maybe have a look through the archives? If not...does anyone remember where these stories were posted?
  24. How about this: instead of giving up, why not lean on the message board a little bit. It is worth a try before throwing in the towel (which you already know is not a healthy thing for you.) Why don't you make a quick list of meals that you are having trouble with: for example: what to eat at restaurants, how to deal with backyard BBQs, lunch on the...
  25. Could be a blood sugar problem. Does the shakiness go away after you eat in the morning?
