    In case anyone else has this question - I tried a different brand of lactose free milk - Horizon. It is MUCH better. It is a little sweeter than regular milk, to be expected since the lactose is now galactose+glucose. But no weird/awful taste that remains on my tongue afterwards.

    I have “The How Can It Be Gluten Free” cookbook from America’s Test Kitchen. Some of the procedures seem really weird compared to traditional baking but the results are great. I’ve also had pretty good luck with recipes from the King Arthur Flour website (they make several certified gluten free flours).

    I am trying a FODMAP diet and purchased Lactaid fat free milk. I think it tastes awful. It isn’t just sweeter, I can detect that and don’t mind that.     It is absolutely possible to have celiac disease without deficiencies or even without typical symptoms - like me! I’m so glad that your original doctor referred you to a gastroenterologist. I hope you get a clear answer when you have your endoscopy/biopsy.

    Unfortunately having just one positive test does NOT eliminate the possibility of celiac disease.

    Another question for the manufacturer - what media is used to grow the bacteria. Sometimes that media can contain gluten.

    I think I edited my post AFTER you liked it! I went back and looked at information from your other posts, which make it more likely that you do have celiac disease or a gluten issue.

    It is possible that you don’t have celiac disease, especially if the only positive test was gliadin IgA and not deamidated gliadin peptide IgA (DGP).     I’m sorry that you don’t have a cause for your health troubles. I hope your doctors will keep looking. I doubt that anyone will feel you have wasted their time - we are pretty sympathetic to difficult-to-diagnose health problems.

    I got my biopsy results in just a few days. It was surprisingly fast. It does take some time to process the samples so they can be observed under a microscope.

    To keep yourself healthy I would either tell the restaurant that you have celiac or a wheat allergy. It isn’t an allergy but the term is one that restaurants seem to understand.

    If the sunscreen stays on your skin it shouldn’t be an issue. However, sometimes lotions put on skin can accidentally get into one’s mouth.     How are cutoffs decided? A company gets a panel of serum samples from people with known celiac disease and people without celiac disease. They run them in the test they are developing. Then they choose a cutoff value that puts the most samples on the correct sides of the cutoff. Sometimes they will adjust the value up if they don’t want false positives, ...

    There are other antibody tests for celiac disease; antibodies to DGP (deamidated gliadin peptides). Some people are only positive on those tests, not on the TTG tests. So yes it is possible to test normal on the TTG tests and still have celiac disease on biopsy.
