ARCHIVED Sadness From My Sister
Ursa Major replied to Adelle's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Don't listen to your sister! I have five children and seven grandchildren, and kids are precious! Our son (who has two older and two younger sisters) and his wife are the same age as you and your husband. They had a baby (my avatar) just before Christmas. They think it's the perfect age to have a baby! It makes me sad to hear that your sister said what... -
ARCHIVED Baby Gear - What Do You Need & What Is A Waste?
Ursa Major replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Right, that mirror so you can see your rear-facing baby in the backseat, I forgot about that. My second daughter (who only has one baby) absolutely loves it. If we go somewhere in my car, she says every time, how she hates not being able to see Zoey, because she is so used to looking into the back mirror to check on her. My oldest daughter doesn't need... -
Congratulations on finding the 'perfect' guy, there aren't too many of those around. He sounds almost too good to be true! I hope this relationship will last and makes you happy.

ARCHIVED Just Got Blood Test Back, Need Help Determining What It Means
Ursa Major replied to Danosu9's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The blood tests are highly unreliable. Just because you didn't get a positive result still doesn't mean that you don't have celiac disease. Why don't you try the diet to see if it makes a difference? If you feel it does, you can always still get tested by Open Original Shared Link, as their tests (which are far more sensitive and reliable than blood tests... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy And Blood Tests Results On 22 Month Old
Ursa Major replied to sadiesmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Amy, with a tiny toddler taking blood IS a big deal, and traumatic. You had one very high reading. And she has symptoms. I would just try the diet to see if it makes a difference. Both your doctors sound ignorant and I wouldn't trust them to know what they're doing. With very young children the tests are very unreliable (including the biopsy), and the... -
Katie, when did you start the gluten-free diet? If you are very strict about it and really, really are careful to avoid being glutened, your DH should clear up eventually. For some people it only takes a few weeks (but will still get the occasional outbreak), for others it takes two years to completely clear up. So, I don't think now that you are diagnosed...

ARCHIVED Should Celiacs Get Flu Shots?
Ursa Major replied to acousticmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You know Tiffany, you can't prove that those people who say that they got the flu shot and didn't get the flu that year, wouldn't have had it anyway, with or without the shot. So, that they didn't get it doesn't prove anything, other than they didn't get sick from the shot itself. I've heard of one nursing home, where every one of the residents and nurses... -
ARCHIVED Should Celiacs Get Flu Shots?
Ursa Major replied to acousticmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You know, Tiffany, in my doctors office is a nurse and a lab technician (well, the lab technician is in the same building, but doesn't work for the doctor's office) , who tell everybody who wants to hear it (when the doctors aren't around) to avoid the flu shots. Both of them never had the flu before getting the shot. The year they got it, they were sick... -
ARCHIVED Doc Told Me Today I Do Not Have Celiacs
Ursa Major replied to Kimberlee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with the previous posters. Enterolab is the way to go, if you can afford it. Plus, I don't believe your biopsy has any validity, because (if I read what you said right), the biopsy was taken from your stomach, not your small intestine. And even if it was taken from the small intestine, and only one was taken, it could easily have been taken from an... -
ARCHIVED Official Diagnosis Or ?
Ursa Major replied to Nantzie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Nancy, because you changed it, my vote doesn't show up any more, and it says I already voted and won't let me vote again. I voted that I self-diagnosed, my doctor (I believe) put into my chart that I have celiac disease, and I tell people I have celiac disease, because otherwise my family wouldn't take me seriously. -
ARCHIVED How Long Did It Take You Yo Be Diagnosed With Celiac?
Ursa Major replied to jamrock's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, I did get cramping. If you consider regularly almost dying of asthma attacks (not a real problem any more), then obviously I had severe shortness of breath. But apart from the asthma, I get shortness of breath simply from lack of energy right now, which I attribute to adrenal fatigue and thyroid problems. -
ARCHIVED How Long Did It Take You Yo Be Diagnosed With Celiac?
Ursa Major replied to jamrock's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, it took me 52 years of symptoms before I diagnosed MYSELF. All my life doctors were too ignorant to see I have celiac disease (or at the very least, gluten intolerance). My long list of symptoms as a child (up to the age of 26) were: Skinny as a rail with inability to gain weight, chronic back pain, extreme fatigue, brain fog, intermittent diarrhea... -
ARCHIVED Not Diagnosed By Doctor; But On Diet Anyway...
Ursa Major replied to betterbelly's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You know you can't tolerate gluten. You might do well to eliminate dairy as well. Yes, it is perfectly safe not to eat gluten, as nobody needs it to be healthy! In fact, it possibly isn't really safe for anybody. It is entirely your choice if you want to go back to eating gluten to be tested. I didn't do it, because I had no intentions of making myself... -
ARCHIVED What Are Some Things You Noticed Right Away After
Ursa Major replied to geminigal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My back ache was mostly in my lower back, and was getting worse every day, despite seeing my chiropractor twice a week. I could hardly move any more, without my back 'going out', and just about collapsing. And yes, it felt like it was deep down in my spine. But also, my back muscles were cramping. My feet stopped being swollen (the swelling came back after... -

ARCHIVED Are There Always Blisters?
Ursa Major replied to Sharon C.'s topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Sharon, I used to get 'flea bites', 'mosquito bites' in the winter (right ), bed bug bites (the only one in the family) etc. For some reason, now that I am gluten-free, all those 'bugs' seem to have just left this house. I suggest you forget about ignorant doctors, and try a gluten-free diet, to see if it will help. -
ARCHIVED What Are Some Things You Noticed Right Away After
Ursa Major replied to geminigal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The awful watery diarrhea went away by the next day (and I had it for six months). My terrible backache got much better within a day as well. All the other pains started getting better. My feet weren't swollen. -
ARCHIVED Baby Gear - What Do You Need & What Is A Waste?
Ursa Major replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Okay, I can see why for the baby to just sleep in your bed is no problem. I always liked to have my kids sleep in my bed, but my husband would tend to roll over on them, and our bed was not big enough (just a double bed). But now we sleep in separate rooms, too, because his snoring keeps me awake, and my tossing and turning keeps him awake. Separate rooms... -
ARCHIVED Pregnant Diet Slip Up Panic!
Ursa Major replied to Marg E's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Marg, all you can do is be vigilant. But the occasional accidental glutening, while uncomfortable for you, won't permanently harm the baby. You can't be too paranoid, because if you are in constant fear, that will harm the baby more than you getting glutened. It is best not to go out more than once a month anyway, and I don't think you need to stop doing... -
ARCHIVED Reaction To Amy's Gluten-free Pizza
Ursa Major replied to Laurad-'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I hope you feel better now. Could you post a list of ingredients? That would give everybody a better idea of which culprits to suggest. -
ARCHIVED Walked Into Door Handle
Ursa Major replied to jesscarmel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
At the speed you were walking, it is highly unlikely that you sustained any serious damage. Bruises can hurt terribly, and can take weeks to heal, unfortunately. And that is likely all you've got, just a nasty bruise. I hope it feels better soon. Did you ice it? Even if you didn't right away, it can still be useful. -
ARCHIVED Should Celiacs Get Flu Shots?
Ursa Major replied to acousticmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Flu shots generally have mercury and aluminum in them (and other very questionable things). Studies have shown that all these years of flu shots have done nothing to decrease the incidence of deaths from the flu, especially amongst the elderly. They are pretty useless (other than making the pharmaceutical companies super rich). If you eat right and take vitamins... -
ARCHIVED Baby Gear - What Do You Need & What Is A Waste?
Ursa Major replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
There is one 'little' thing that may get to be a problem with not having another place but your own bed for baby to sleep in. And that is that certain activities between husband and wife require privacy, and don't allow for a baby to be in the middle of your bed. So, unless you are actually planning on not having any sex for a year, you might want to reconsider... -

ARCHIVED Baby Gear - What Do You Need & What Is A Waste?
Ursa Major replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
From my own and my two older daughter's experience, I consider a cradle/basket/or similar little bed beside your own bed for the first few months essential. A full sized playpen is usually way too big to fit beside your bed, because unless you have a huge bedroom (and few people do), space is limited. Also, if you have a two-story house, a bassinet to...
