  1. Good for you for figuring out your husband's problem and making sure he gets diagnosed! When a man is anemic, that should ALWAYS send up a red flag. Men in general don't get anemic unless they have celiac disease or leukemia. I'm glad it's the celiac disease with your husband, as it's easy to get him feeling better, and getting his levels up again. Are...
  2. Sometimes that kind of thing happens to me, too. And yes, smells can make me sick. I don't think it's necessarily a celiac issue, but just generally an intolerance/allergy one. And I've had it often, that I'd comment on some awful, horrible smell, that is so strong it makes me sick. And NOBODY else could smell it and would treat me like I was crazy. ...
  3. Yes, I get this as well. I haven't figured out what to do to help it, I just wait it out and suffer, I guess. Sorry I can't be a real help here, as I could be asking the same question.
  4. Amanda, gluten intolerance can definitely cause seizures. It is very possible that your son had the seizure as a result of accidental gluten ingestion. Your doctor's theory doesn't make any sense at all to me. Keep your kids on a gluten-free diet, and be very diligent with it, so your son won't have any more seizures. To really keep him safe, it would be...
  5. When I went to bed last night at 8:30, I turned on music to go to sleep to. I don't remember hearing any of it, as I must have been asleep instantly. I woke up at 6:00 AM to go to the bathroom. But just to pee pretty much. I think giving my bowels a rest yesterday by not eating until evening was the best thing to do. I ate some chicken last night, and a...
  6. Sally, if you really want to be sure, and can afford it, I would suggest you get tested by Open Original Shared Link. They will do testing world wide. I know, it would be pricey to send your samples back by courier, but it would be worth it. With the elimination diet, be aware that eggs and rice CAN be causing intolerances (I am very intolerant to both...
  7. Well, after not eating any breakfast or lunch and only drinking some water and chamomile tea until nearly 7:00 PM, I made it through the day without major problems. I didn't get any more sleep after my last entry, as every time I thought of going to bed, I'd have to rush to the bathroom instead. So, I had about four hours of sleep the night before last night...
  8. Sorry you're feeling sick. I don't know why the wine makes you sick. But really, no matter what the exact reason is, if it makes you sick, you have no choice but to give it up. That's unfortunately just the way it is. We don't always know the reason for these reactions. If it was me, I'd know that wine is high in salicylates, and would make me sick for...
  9. I was hoping so much that this night I could just make it through the night, it sure felt like it was possible when I went to bed. But no such luck. I woke up at 4:00 AM, and just made it to the bathroom, where I stayed for an hour (sigh). Now it is 5:00 AM, and I don't feel like it's safe to go back to bed yet. Seriously, how will I make it through the...
  10. You girls are so funny! I always like to see what people look like, and put into the Google search engine '"Scott Adam" Celiac Disease' about a year ago, clicked on 'Images' and got a picture from the celiac disease magazine he puts out. So, I've known what he looks like for quite a while. You can find out just about anything with Google. So now,...
  11. No, you're not. Scott mistakenly showed to go to 'Privacy', but you need to click on 'Security' instead. That will bring you to a window where you can click on 'show passwords'.
  12. I was tested with a vega machine about five years ago by a naturopathic doctor, and the whole nightshade family scored very high. Eliminating those made a definite difference, especially eliminating tomatoes. I already knew that potatoes caused gastrointestinal problems, it was obvious, and I was limiting them. I found out about lectins and salicylates...
  13. Marcia, that is an amazing article. SOMEBODY obviously gets it and completely understands! And they even cite the gluten sensitivity gene, HLA DQ1, as causing especially neurological manifestations of celiac disease. Meaning, not only Dr. Fine recognizes it.
  14. Oh, one thing I forgot is, that I also bring my own cutting board (for cutting up my vegetables) and spatula, making very sure I wash them right after I'm done and putting them in a special place, so nobody else uses them. If you eat pasta, and want to bring your own, make sure you also bring a colander. And if you want to really lug a lot of stuff around...
  15. That is precisely why I just use my name for my user name. Hopefully I won't forget that.

    Heinz Tomato Ketchup

It is possible that you have other intolerances besides gluten. You might be reacting to something other than gluten in the ketchup. I don't know what the ingredients are, so I can't tell you what the most likely culprits are. I can't use any kind of ketchup simply because I am intolerant to tomatoes.
  17. Any doctor can order a B12 test, but yes, you do have to specifically ask for it, otherwise they don't seem to think of doing it. Check out Scott's (admin's) blog, and read the entry from two days ago. It's all about gluten affecting the brain. Very informative.
  18. Ann, sorry you're not feeling too great, I know what that's like. When I travel, I take my own stainless steel frying pan with me, as well as a cooler bag with my own food. I make sure the people I am visiting won't mind me cooking my own food. I've never had a problem, when I explained to them that otherwise I might end up being really...
  19. Sally, do you still consume dairy and/or soy? Those are the most likely other foods to be causing problems. If eliminating those won't help, try taking all lectins out of your diet. Including all the nightshades. To find out more about lectins, follow the link in my signature. I find that especially eggs, rice and potatoes give me diarrhea and joint pain...
  20. Okay, here I am again in the middle of the night. I actually DID go to bed at 11:00 PM, and fully intended to sleep until morning. Unfortunately, my bowels didn't agree with this plan. And since I'll likely be hours, running to the bathroom every few minutes, I thought I might as well make the best of it and do a little writing for distraction. Right...
  21. I agree with Nini, putting the whole family on a gluten-free diet is the best way of finding out if all of you are experiencing symptoms of celiac disease. I suspect that your son, your daughter and you are all gluten intolerant, with the intolerance manifesting in different ways. Here is a link to Scott's blog. Scroll down to yesterday's entry, titled...
  22. Hi Melody, and welcome to this board. Are you sure you really want to go through with official testing? You would have to make your son sick again to the extend of destroying his just-healed villi, just so a doctor can tell you that he can't tolerate gluten (which you already know, anyway). After being gluten-free for several months, it may take up...
  23. Now THAT makes sense, actually. I didn't say I can't tolerate Armour, only that it is a possibility that I can't, because I can't tolerate pork very well. But I will ask my doctor to prescribe it as well as cortisol (on a short-term basis, just to help out the adrenal glands until they kick in again). Trying it can't be worse than trying those herbal supplements...
  24. If you can't tolerate legumes, it is pretty safe to assume that you can't eat anything made from soy, and need to avoid it. You also need to avoid peanuts. One of my intolerances is legumes, and soy and peanuts make me sick. In fact, soy seems to be worse than normal beans.
  25. I can't believe I actually have a blog now! People think blogs are pretty cool. I hope that makes me 'hip' and part of the cool crowd. So, I am worse today. I got to were I was giving up. Giving up on ever getting well, giving up on God pretty much, giving up on life in general. As a result of that attitude, I didn't resist the new gluten-free...
