ARCHIVED Discouraged By My Dr.
Serielda replied to CanadianK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
CanadianK, getting diagnosed is tricky tricky trust me. Since my mid 20's I was plauged by illness that seemed centered around food, that sometimes left effects that out of fear made me high tail it to the Dr. to be told its' the flu or food poisioning but the older I got I sensed things was a bit more complex than that. I had a Dr give me a test trying to... -

ARCHIVED Soda..should It Be Eliminated?
Serielda replied to looking4help's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sodas are the devil to put down. I've in the past quit smoking cold turkey for 5 yrs easier than giving up that demonic lovely fizzy treat, and have not picked sodas back up at all. Even in the past going out for girls night out I'd ask for juices in my drinks over that stuff. However due to bad nerves the smoking resumed during a hurricane that fell on... -
ARCHIVED Family's Attempt At gluten-free Thanksgiving
Serielda replied to nvsmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is my first Thanksgiving gluten-free as well and I am beyond nervous. One, I've never cooked a Turkey in my life, I have no idea what I am going to be doing or getting into so yea the request for help is much wanted. My inlaws want to try and help but bless their hearts, they are more clueless than Cher from the movie clueless when it comes to the... -
ARCHIVED Pre-Occupation With Health
Serielda replied to cristiana's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Absolutly I am concerned about my health. Granted up until my diagnosis I wasn't the most aware of things, but I did try to do what I thought was correct. However looking back at things such as my 2011 hysterectomy and fibromyalga diagnosis, I look back and saw I still had a fair-weather approach toward things. It wasn't until 2014, when my Celiac diagnosis... -
ARCHIVED Gaining Weight Since Going Gluten Free, And Already Overweight!
Serielda replied to JesikaBeth's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Jennifer, Thank you, thank you thank you, while I am on the lose weight spectrum as well I had questions regarding Fitbit and other fitness bands. -
I will check out that author you are referencing. Trust me Paleo is not my first choice as for the past 3+ years I have been a vegan, and vegetarian longer than that. However Thankfully I did find a healthcare system is fairly astute to Celiacs and NCGI issues put me on that thing. So from what research I have done on my end to make sure they are not full...

ARCHIVED Would You Avoid Processed Gluten-Free Food?
Serielda replied to radley's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I myself do my best to avoid processed foods, even before I had to go gluten free. Somethings in reality are unavoidable but I try to always pick the lesser of evils and see which of the most natural is the option. In the present I am even more mindful. That is not to say I haven't had anything processed as above stated, reality states it sometimes will... -
Funny you say that as that is normal here as I work 3rd shift where I do. As for recommendations on it, actually been on it as Dr.s orders.

So I've hit a place I call the valley of confusion, and I have seen conflicting info. One a few sites it states even gluten free grains are forbidden, yet on other sites it states quinoa is safe. What really has me puzzled is one that listed a buffalo chicken melt muffin. I am no culinary whiz, but how is a muffin possible without grains? The entire recipe...

From what my acquaintance said, you really do not wanna know at their store, he wouldn't eat that stuff himself and he has a titanium gut. So I'm walking away from that location whistling with no questions.

That is why when I reallizes the server when she copped an attitude I requested a mgr. who saw the whole thing thru.. He even showed me the naked tender was not even on the same side of the walk in as the fried and gluten containing items. . I was shocked at first at how much he cared, until he explained he had a child who ca not have gluten non celiacs but...

Serielda replied to Serielda's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have but the thing with me is I am leaning toward the Nike fuel band as it works with my phone, only problem is I haven't really heard a whole lot about that one. The one I am tempted with is the fitbit, but I heard some folks got rashes from it which makes me a bit hesident to use it. I guess I will wait to hear more regarding the nike one. -

I wish I could do five guys sometimes, but I had a friend who worked at one in my town and warned me that at the one where I live and he had worked at did not have such great housekeeping on seperating food stuffs. Which makes me cry as I would love some things that I can eat from there. As for Red Robin they are building one across the st from me, and...

Serielda replied to SMRI's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I do know carageenan is type of seaweed Open Original Shared Link (note I hate using wikipedia as a ref, but it is a starting point) I know from friends of mine who work out alot that Whey is a protein that some people do have issues with and that it can be used as a substitution for gluten as a binder. As a friend of mine who has had cullinary training... -
ARCHIVED Pillsbury Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough---gluten-free!
Serielda replied to SMRI's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hmm, I don't doubt that, its just in the market I am in, I haven't seen it. However most my grocery time is kind of rushed due to my schedule. Next time I have a bit more time at the supermarket I am gonna try and take a few more mins to poke at those things. While I do not eat them normally it would be great to have a chance to have a once in a blue moon... -
ARCHIVED Surgery/ Early Menopause And Weight Being Gluten Free.
Serielda posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Ok, while this may sound vain, be advised I am a woman, and no matter what we as humans are self concious about weight issues be it too skinny or well having some backage to lose. So please try to not judge me. Back in June 2011, I had my first surgery for my hysterectomy and I have since fought like heck to drop weight, but I assume even tho I was able... -
In lieu of Halloween coming up, and it is one of my fave holidays I thought it would be fun to discuss your fave costume you've ever done. For myself I would say that as a kid, the one year my mother dressed me up as the wolf from Little Red Ridding Hood, but as an adult I would say it was the year I dressed up as a vampire. I had a friend who designed...

BoJonJovi, that is a great point, there are so many snakes in the grass often something can get over looked. Meds was at first one I did not think of until I started pounding the internet and books I could get my mits on for that kind of info. I do know Target has their brand and some of their products are brazenly marked gluten free. If you are on meds,...

ARCHIVED Sleep And Activity Tracking
Serielda replied to Serielda's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have tried a few of those the one I am using now is called 24/7 or something of that gist. I do have some questions regarding how accurate is a heart beat check using the flash of my camera. I am just a bit doubtful, as I code a little and I know there can be discrepencies. My question was is the hardware/software on these gizmo's sturdy and do a good job... -
ARCHIVED Pillsbury Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough---gluten-free!
Serielda replied to SMRI's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
OMG please, please, please tell me they do not have dairy and used coconut or something else... because if so I am going to the nearest supermarket and yelling shut up and take my money already if this is all true and I am not dreaming this. The problem I find with most pilsburry products is flipping dairy and it doesn't list itself as gluten free. After... -
Has anyone here experimented with the fitness trackers like Fitbit or jawbone for an example. I have been toying with the notion of purchasing one to track my activity level and sleep. However before spending $100.00 or slightly more on one of these I would like to hear the pro's and cons of others who may be using these to help assist in those avenue's...
