ARCHIVED Got A Koolatron...on Sale!
SMRI replied to across's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just picked one up at Home Depot. It was $40ish with tax. They had them in the appliance department in a corner, not by the other coolers. -
ARCHIVED Mom Brand Safari Cocoa Crunch
SMRI replied to Alex J's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just bought some of their chocolate rice krispie/cocoa pebbles knock offs that are gluten-free too!! Glad to hear you like them. I'll let you know how they are when I try them. I also found a chocolate chex cereal that is gluten-free too. Bad part of these....they are for me. I love sugared cereal -
ARCHIVED Is There An App Or Website For Checking Ingredients?
SMRI replied to SMRI's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I used this app for the first time today and it's sure handy!! You can customize it to search for things you do not want in your food. I have mine set for gluten and low calorie. I'm mostly worried about the chemical named things right now until I get more used to this!! It pegged items that it should have-meaning they have gluten in them. It brings... -
ARCHIVED Did I Make A Huge Mistake?
SMRI replied to nsoroma79's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm sure you have found this information now, but to be properly tested you need to have "normal" amounts of gluten in your system. Those that were gluten-free that go to be tested eat about 1-2 pieces of bread each day for 4-8 weeks so having a cupcake or a couple pieces of candy isn't really enough, nor is just touching a piece of pizza. I only know one... -
ARCHIVED Repeated Blood Work Is Different. Now I'm Confused.
SMRI replied to Emily8608's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A lab that doesn't require dr's orders might be more of the issue vs your results actually changing. The quality of the equipment and the people using the equipment could account for the differences. You won't ever know I guess. I wouldn't give it any more thought. You have had the testing needed and it's negative, but if you feel better not eating gluten... -

ARCHIVED What Are Your Go-To Items At Fast Food Places?
SMRI posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
What are your go-to items if you have to eat at a Fast Food place. I run into trouble when I'm on the road and might have a choice between McDonald's and maybe Arby's. I would prefer not to eat at Fast Food places but often when I'm in the middle of nowhere, it's my only option. -

ARCHIVED Did You Take Off Work When Undergoing Your Challenge?
SMRI replied to I-want-nachos's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My Celiacs was found by "accident"--they were testing for something else and threw in this test because I have a niece with Celiacs. I don't really have symptoms other than a lot of D. I'm glad I didn't have to do a challenge because it sounds horrible! -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Shampoo, Conditioner & Body Wash
SMRI replied to Lorna Dune Cakes's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Open Original Shared Link also has gluten-free products! They are probably a lot more expensive than Costco though . They work great and you only need a very tiny amount, pea size, for a good lather! -
ARCHIVED Anxiety And Bloating Still Happening After Going gluten-free? Help!
SMRI replied to GlutenNoob's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Look at it this way, if you have a deep cut and require stitches, it's 2 weeks before the stitches come out and another couple weeks before it is healed. The damage you have in your intestines is probably worse than that and will take more than 3 weeks to heal.- 14 replies

Hormone changes can do funny things to your body. Look up PMS and most of what you are saying goes right along with that. I used to be like clockwork and the day before I would start my period, heavy D. The week leading up to my period, I couldn't eat enough food or so it seemed. Severe headache the first day, then cramping like you would not believe...

ARCHIVED The Beginning - Good Enough Of A Diagnosis
SMRI replied to ezgoindude's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
They did not do the immune panel unless you just didn't add that. The tests are similar to celiacs but not the same. They should have run a full IgG, IgA, IgE, etc. They need to specifically run the IgG subclasses, there are 4, as well. Your total IgG could be normal but you could be low in one or more subclasses. -
How old are you--some of the brain fog might be associated with just getting older (menopause for women). I roll my eyes at myself a lot when the brain fog stuff is really bad....lordy is right!!

ARCHIVED Is This Accurate?
SMRI replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did you eliminate dairy and gluten at the same time? Dairy is a huge trigger for eczema. Has she had allergy testing done? If not, maybe start there? -
There is a bad GI bug going around, maybe you are just sick and it's nothing to do with celiac disease? Stress can also cause a lot of problems.

ARCHIVED Dating Seems Impossible :-/
SMRI replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just ask her out. The worst that will happen is she says no. Maybe she is celiac disease too? . Go on the date, go out to eat, pick something gluten-free to eat and mention in passing that you are gluten-free then ask something about her and move on to a new topic of conversation. Either the date goes well or it doesn't. Church is a very good place to... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Sensitve.... How Long To Heal....
SMRI replied to Ramsey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think that is the problem with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities, the symptoms could also be any number of things. What testing have you had done? You could have severe thyroid issues, West Nile, Lyme's, Cancer, any number of conditions. -
ARCHIVED The Beginning - Good Enough Of A Diagnosis
SMRI replied to ezgoindude's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Is it possible that you have something else, like maybe an Immune Deficiency, low IgG subclass 3 or something else? In my research, all of the reports I've read said that about 40% of the world population has the genetic markers for celiac disease but not all of those that have the genes have celiac disease, which is what it sounds like might be what is... -
ARCHIVED Don't Know What To Do
SMRI replied to strum's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My biopsy results say that it's likely celiac but it also lists some other conditions that it could be like bacterial overgrowth so it isn't always cut and dried. Now, my blood work and genetic test came back positive to support the biopsy findings. Is having the official diagnosis needed for something at work or elsewhere? -
ARCHIVED Coping With Being The Odd One Out
SMRI replied to across's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
While the food issues stick out for you because it is new, keep in mind, everyone has something that makes them different. Bringing a bag lunch to work isn't unusual and while it would be handy not to have to, many people do. -

ARCHIVED Is There An App Or Website For Checking Ingredients?
SMRI replied to SMRI's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks. I did find that list and have it bookmarked, but at the grocery store, it would be handy to have an app on my phone. Any app developers out there -
ARCHIVED Itching And Sweating After Reglutening Myself
SMRI replied to dan95's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Problem with a lot of your symptoms, as you know, is they could be a LOT of things. I'm not sure where you live but going to a clinic like Mayo where they check every nook and cranny all in one place might be a good idea. Do you have bad stretch marks on your stomach/thighs?
