  1. Ah, Beverley, it really does pour for you...I always think of you being such a comfort to others, and boy, you are the one who needs it the most! I'm thinking of you.... {{{{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
  2. It's true, we're all so happy when one of us experiences a normal bowel movement. Has anyone ever been so elated that they suddenly featured their new poop in their avatar pic?

    ARCHIVED English Check?

Yep, the Quebeqois translation of "hardly" is ne guere (cannot figure out how to put these *!@#!!* accents above the letters! I do very little French typing, I guess)...Doesn't "hantisse" mean a kind of intimacy? I must say it is great teaching the French diplomats. They are wonderful people, and I hope to visit France in the next couple of years. I...
  4. Alert! I have recently seen a few women (not men yet, thank gawd) sporting the feathered-back look again. Horrors. Actually, aren't mullet-haired guys often married to women who have the perpetually feathered-back, blonde 'do? I think so...you guys from Alberta? Southern States?

    ARCHIVED English Check?

It happens to me all the time when I'm teaching. Of course, I do not translate English words to the students but rather have them discuss what the meaning could possibly be given its context. In a lower intermediate class, it goes something like this: Me: The last sentence could read, "No one ever respects my privacy". Student...

    ARCHIVED English Check?

Gfp, I agree with the others who judge you as a very expressive, capable and "correct" writer of English. Yep, the odd run-on and a verb tense or two that may be questionable, but for the most part your text is always well put-together and your language very innovative. I think it would be very interesting and telling to HEAR you speak. That, I am certain...
  7. Unfortunately, it probably could be. Science tells us that it only takes a crumb to do intestinal damage in a celiac. It's the same principle behind the never-pick-the-croutons-out-of-a-salad-and-proceed-to-eat-it. Cross-contamination can seem to happen when things just make contact with one another. Crazy, I know!
  8. My nine-year old is doing research for a class project. They had to choose an animal and write an essay. He has chosen the gila monster (don't ask!), and while perusing some websites he suddenly shouted, "Mom! C'mere!" He has stumbled upon research and scientific studies that are being conducted involving the digestion process within these creatures. ...
  9. That has got to be one of the most hilarious websites I have ever seen. I have emailed the link to all of my friends, and now, thanks to its comprehensive research, I have it confirmed that indeed the female mullet has existed and will continue into infamy. OMG, the "sightings" for mullet #94: Behind trees, divorce court, Afghanistan...
  10. Okay, so here's a question--can't seem to find any evidence of female mullets. Does the classic mullet profile only involve males? I'm having some uneasy memory flashes of me sporting something that came very close to this "style" in the mid-eighties. The lifestyle and...philosophy...(trying to remain politically correct here)...that tends to surround...
  11. Richard, I second that. Now, Vincent, on the other hand...he could have a FEATURE PAGE under the "mullitia" heading of that site. He could challenge for the crown, I think.
  12. Welcome, Britni! I was also a silent celiac--no noticeable symptoms before diagnosis with the exception of low iron--but since being gluten-free for almost a year, my lower intestine has obviously been healing because, like many here, I DO get symptoms of being glutened now. Bloating, cramps...on the bright side, at least now I know when I've eaten hidden...
  13. Mygosh, I'm in the Nation's capital..."The Canadian Passport"...this is hilarious. If the mullet is hockey hair, then Canada is Mulletland, and the "beaver paddle" is us all over, too. Heck, we've got beavers all over the place up here, apparently. Perhaps we should bring this to the attention of our newly-elected prime minister, and it could become part...
  14. I was entranced by all of the books by Madeleine L'Engle as a child (I still am), and my nine-year old son is devouring his third in the first series. A Wrinkle in Time is the first book in her first series...it is timeless, mysterious, had me laughing and crying. Great for boys or girls, nine years old or ninety!
  15. Vincent...you are INDEED loved, as your mullet belongs in a class by itself. Hypermullet...mulletmania...
  16. There was LOTS of bad fashion stuff happening in the eighties, but I would have to vote the mullet as perhaps the worst legacy that we are still left with in certain pockets of the continent--Kentucky, Alberta...hey, gfp, what areas of your continent across the pond still boast mullet sightings?
  17. Hi, Matilda, My good friend has been feeling generally lousy now for the last three or four years, and last year when I was diagnosed with celiac, I passed my education-by-the-seat-of-my-pants along to her. She went gluten-free along with me, and while feeling somewhat better, is still exhausted/joint pain/headaches etc. Tests have been inconclusive. ...
  18. Another brief hijack... I was looking more constructively at your haircut, gfp, and it's true, it is not a great example of a classic mullet, but it just needs mussing up, or brushing back of the bangs. Yes, that's it...if we brushed back your hair so we could see your forehead completely--stupendous. If we begin another thread on hair, we will HAVE...
  19. Spunky, I want to thank you for such a positive story! I recently read a post from a member who is leaving the board due to frustration with the way some posts have been going, and I was feeling a bit sad. Good timing, my reading your post of appreciation! I've been uplifted now. We'll hear from you on further threads...
  20. Thorough, well-read and always an interseting read...even if his new hair is a touch...mullettish...Hey, to each his own, right?
  21. Man, she's starting to sound a little scary...Believing she has a "mission" to cure us all, accusing Scott of feeling threatened by her "words of truth"...
  22. Isn't it fabulous? My nine-year old son sat wide-eyed, reading through the warnings. His reaction when I told him it was only speaking about water was classic...silence, then a slow smile. Very clever, and worth a second read when taken in the context of what we can get sucked into in this age of information bombardment...even as a forty-year old!
  23. We were discussing in another thread how careful one must be when gathering information off the internet, particularly medical info where incorrect facts can be dangerous. This site says it all, and is a very clever exercise that teaches this lesson brilliantly: www.dhmo.org
  24. I didn't read enough of Tailz's posts to make a judment on her conduct (I clearly remember her thread on colloidial silver, and there she just seemed like an unwell soul searching for some answers). Her obsession with Lyme disease is fascinating, and as I've made my way through this thread I have had a moment of pause...I am going to be a lot more careful...
  25. I was diagnosed with celiac just before last Christmas, and was very surprised as I had never experienced any obvious symptoms. I know there are other silent celiacs out there, but I'm wondering how many of you guys who have been gluten-free long enough for your lower intestine to heal are now experiencing all the uncomfortable symptoms when glutened. I...
