  1. Welcome!! I have been gluten-free for almost 2 years, and I don't have much to add to what has already been said, except that I would highly recomend a local group. My local group is AMAZING and has really help with finding safe places to eat (because THEY have been there!!) and recipes and such. And my home is 100% gluten-free, and hubby is too (at home...
  2. I am sure that I am not 100% gluten-free because I eat gluten-free things that are "made in a facility that also processes" bla bla bla. I am careful, but I DO eat out. I don't eat gluten on purpose, but I am sure some gets in there. I try to put it in perspective- I am exposed to ozone, toxic fumes, sick people at work/school/shopping, enclosed recycled...
  3. Things I have gotten in bulk from Amazon: Orgran Elbow Noodles Bob's Red Mill gluten-free Flour Nana's No Gluten Chocolate Munch cookies
  4. I did this exact thing (that Carla said) for my sisters wedding. I went straight to the caterer. I also took food, but I didn't need it because everthing went so well! Have a wonderful time
  5. I totally agree!!! I LOVE the EnerG Hotdog buns! I order them from amazon (so it is 30 bucks or so, but I get 8 packs of 4 at a time). They are GREAT for hotdogs, sub sandwiches, and garlic bread. I am very pleased with these!!
  6. I agree with most of foods on previous posts (like glutino pretzels, love those!). I only have a few to add: Planters Peanuts (I get the mini bags, at Sams. They come 40 to a box. I carry the little baggies in my purse and gym bag) Nana's No Gluten Chocolate Munch Cookies EnerG Crackers
  7. Hello!! I am also trying to get pregnant! When I went gluten-free my previously absent periods started to act normal, so that was a great sign! But I have not gotten pregnant yet. I do believe there is a corelation (sp?) between the two. I am confidant that I will get pregnant soon (my husband has been over seas for most of our marriage, so I am blaming it...
  8. I don't know if you would call it "immediate" but within 20 minutes, I have dizziness, a slight headache, and bowel sounds (rumble in my abdomen). Usually followed by diarrhea within 5 mintues of that, and a THROBBING headache within 5 minutes. I then get some muscle cramps, usually in my legs. That is all general. There are more specific series' of events...
  9. I actually take it when I get glutened, seems to help, but maybe its all in my head. I know it isn't an "allergy" but I am hopeful that it does *something* to help......makes me feel better.....
  10. I am from AL but I don't live there now. But I have a couple of Celiac friends in Birmingham, so when you do get a meeting together, I would love to share the info with them (they are not on celiac.com, I don't think....). Good Luck!!
  11. Doll, great thread! (and I like your note about the gluten-free wedding!!) I have always had a "sensitive stomach" but the major symptoms didn't really kick in until about age 10. There isn't anything major that happened (that I can recall) but my parents did get divorced, and it was messy, so maybe it was stress related. But when I was discussing all of...
  12. Ironic to see this post today, because I just had fries at my local sonic two days ago and I got really sick. On a couple of the fries I saw little fried bits-like from fried chicken. I think they don't understand the point of a dedicated fryer (at this location at least).
  13. I have tried the My Own Meals and they are pretty decent. I think the spices could be a little stronger (so I add salt and pepper to mine) but they are great for traveling, no need to freeze or refrigerate. I like the beef stew the best. The My Own Chicken is not so good (to me anyway). Plus, they are kinda pricey.....just my opinion.
  14. I suggest looking up the places you might want to go, and checking their websites. Some places have gluten-free menu's online, like Outback, PF Changs, and Chilis. And there is always fast food. I get the chilli and plain potato at Wendy's all the time. Or the whopper with out bun at Burger King. As far as what to say when you order, I ALWAYS tell the...
  15. You ever heard that phrase "You will stay the same until the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change"? That is how it is with me and cheating. When I was first letting go of gluten, I would cheat, because I was sick most of the time anyway, so what was new. But now that I am not sick, and I know what it will do to me, it isn't worth it...
  16. I have had terrible experiences with my teeth, my whole life (24 now). I have had one root canal, and one tooth just cracked (and they can't figure out why) so I have a crown on that one. I think it is Celiac related, but who knows for sure. Just my opinion.....

    ARCHIVED P. F. Changs?

I just ate at the Bham one last week. I have been there several times (used to live there, and now travel through) and they have always been "ok" (not GREAT, but they were quick to fix a problem, like you mentioned). I wish there was a PF Changs close to me now, nearest is about 60 miles. I really like that place! My fav is the Changs Spicey Chicken...
  18. I LOVE the Ener-G crackers, plain, they are like saltines!!!!! I take them with me to resturaunts, and on trips (and keep some in the car!). I LOVE LOVE LOVE these!!!! They are the best crackers I have found....I haven't tried too too many, maybe 5, and I just wanted a plain cracker to put peanut butter on, and these are the best I have tried!
  19. Do you (or anyone else) know if the PRK is the Custom Wavelegnth I have read about?? Thanks!!
  20. Anyone had it? Got stories? I am thinking about doing it. I would appreciate your thoughts.
  21. So, agreeing with Michelle, and wanting to supplement, I will keep taking my vitamins with my breakfast. Food IS the best, but there are too many "requirements" to eat in one day. I eat fat, on purpose, so I know my vitamins will absorb. On the other hand, I do not eat most of the foods you mentioned for sources of foliate. I do agree that it is a valid...
  22. I got it at my local Health Food Store. I am sure you could find it at a Health Food store, or Whold Foods type of store. You might be able to pour it into a pump bottle, but I haven't seen one come in a pump bottle. Ithink that might be really messy, as the oil is really thin and slippery. But it would seem perfect for massage!
  23. I use oneandone also. I have 3 sites through them. One for work, one for personal (keeping up with family) and one for a Celiac Race in Austin (which, I don't think would be wrong to mention here!) www.GotGuts5k.com
  24. Vitamins are either fat soluble or water soluble. So, if you eat Fat or Drink Water, then your vitamins would be absorbed. I will not eat enough spinach to get the Folic Acid I need, that is just plain fact. So, I take it in pill form.
