  1. I've also seen them on the kninickknick (SP!) web site.
  2. I'd be sure to ask. I went out to dinner last week and asked about the shrimp scampi on the menu. The waiter went and asked the chef and came back to tell me that it DID have flour. It's easily made without flour, but be sure to ask - I'm glad I did!
  3. I've had the Imagine brand creamy tomato soup - it's pretty good and comes in a carton style which is convenient for taking to work.
  4. I love bleu cheese, but it was the first food I noticed a direct correlation to a fast trip to the bathroom right after consumption! So even if some are "safe" I probably won't be trying it.
  5. My mother has been making these cookies for year - long before any of us even heard of gluten-free! They really are good. She doesn't put in nuts, but will sometimes put in chocolate chips.
  6. My "Grrr....." award goes to a very overweight co-worker. Since going gluten-free I have lost over 50 lbs, and whenever she sees me she says "oh, if only I could have that, then I'd loose weight like you". Of course she says this as she eats a sausage egg mcmuffin AND *two* bags of Lays chips for breakfast. Hmmm... maybe there's something to be said for...
  7. My doc is always reminding me that my gut is my "second brain", that's why going on the anti-depressent cleared up my stress induced D.... he says the chemicals in your brain are the same as what's in your gut. Makes sense to me.
  8. Love the Gluten Free Pantry crust... it's better then my mom's "regular" one!!
  9. My favorite - it's quick, easy and gives you great left overs that I usually make into a stir fry, or you could do fajitas or something as well... 1 flank steak (buy big enough for left overs) 1/2 c soy sauce (gluten-free of course) 1/2 c packed brown sugar dab of oil tsp each chopped garlic and chopped ginger (use more or less to your taste) dash...
  10. Getting through the day without a mad dash to the bathroom... not needing to know where every bathroom is... feeling so much better... getting out of the house... better heatlh - no more headaches, stomach aches and I've lost over 50 lbs!!
  11. Hooray to all of us!
  12. Flash back to a year ago sitting in my dr.s office saying "give up wheat???" I couldn't beleive he didn't want to run gallbladders tests. How can you live without wheat AND dairy?? Well you can, and I'm doing it very nicely. Yes - there's been some panic attacks, pitty partys (darn Olive Garden commercials)... but when I look back at where I was...
  13. Check out your library or Amazon for special cookbooks. I have one called "Cooking Free" and it has all kinds of recipies for special diets.
  14. Put in some white wine, a little water, lemon juice and/or fresh lemons.... thyme, sage, rosemary are good seasonings.
  15. I went gluten-free and DF almost a year ago now. I did great for the first few months, but then came the holidays (which meant eating out a different relatives) and the stress of that, the holidays, a huge project at work, and my daughter was ill sent me spiraling into anxiety and depression. After being very misrable for a while (no sleep, no joy - even...
  16. Most companies have thier own website or 800 number. You'll find many lists, but they might not be up-to-date. A lot of Ore Ida products are gluten-free. But some are not - as always, read the label. We eat the tater tots a lot. You may also want to find McCain projects (smiley fries, and other potatoes) or Alexia - both say gluten-free on the package...
  17. Makes me burp but I like it so much I don't let it bother me.
  18. I work in a large, cuttinge edge teaching hospital and I've learned (from patient stories and personal family members) that you ALWAYS need a patient advocate. Never assume the hosptial knows everything you do. This is especially important if you are going to be under any pain medication - you *MUST* have someone there to speak for you and remember the...
  19. You can still have cake - just make a gluten-free one. Or there are tons of other things you can have... my mom makes a fabulous lemon sponge cake w/ cornstartch, or pies, or meringues, creme brulee, definitely a sundea bar... oh I'm hungry now
  20. I remember making a lot of chocolate milk shakes when I had mine out... and that shot of Khalua sure helped take the pain away Seriously, plan on soups, pudding, yogurt, maybe eggs?
  21. Not sure either. Have you tried anything like the Mylicon gas drops?
  22. I felt stoned. Like when the dr. has you on codeine and you're trying really hard to concentrate but you just can't quite do it. I'd read the ame paragraph over and over and finally give up. I was definitely on automatic pilot... the worst epsisode was when I was driving and I found myself exiting the freeway. Problem was - I didn't know where I was...
  23. If you are dairy-free you can subsitute w/ butter flavor Crisco.
  24. Try it.... you'll like it...
  25. Pepto and regular Immodium - but NOT soft chews!! - are fine.
