  1. We'll be near Sarasota, thanks so much for looking this up!!
  2. We're going south for the holidays! Anyone suggest places to eat in Venice, FL? Also going to Siesta Key if you have any recommendations. Thanks!
  3. Awesome!! That would be so helpful to so many people!! Great Job!!
  4. Where are you in Michigan? There are several support groups (tri-county, ann arbor, lansing) that would have recommendations for you. If you're on the western side of the state, Chicago has a great center at the U of Chicago.
  5. Yes yes yes and yes! Count me in!
  6. I go to familyfun.com or the kraft sites for good ideas. Last year I made a whole dinner called "dead man on worms"... it was just a meatloaf shaped into semi-human form served over spagetti. No, I don't get carried away... why doyou ask?
  7. Sorry, I'm an "eyeballer" style of cook.... I'd bring it up about 1/4 to 1/3, and I cook on low 6 - 8 hours, high if under six hours.
  8. I have found some fantastic cinnamon donuts from Celiac Specalites (they are local for me, but they do ship). I bring some in a baggie and let my friends go in and get the cider and their donuts then we're all happy!! I would think caramel apples would be fine, but read the labels. A fun treat we do is take home apples and either bake with them, or make...
  9. I make a "Grandma's Roast Chicken and Dumplings" 1 whole chicken (make sure if fits in pot with room around it!) 1 can gluten-free chicken broth, add water if needed sprinkle your favorite herbs on - I use thyme, rosemary, sage, salt, pepper, a bay leaf let cook! When it's done, take out the chicken, keep it warm, and strain the broth. Turn the...
  10. I use the MiDel arrowroot animal crackers, they're really good... I think they'd be good as a sub for graham crackers in a pie crust too. We did discover the joy of inserting a hershey kiss into a hot marshmellow and just eating it that way too. The chocolate gets really gooey inside... oh, yum
  11. I think it depends on what your responsibilities are. If you're cashiering, it may be hard to suddenly disappear to run to the bathroom. If you're working in another area, then odds are good you can just slip away. I don't make a big deal, sometimes I say "be right back" and just walk out. I've also been known to wear a pager and say "oh, that's my daughter...
  12. The good thing about wheat protein in the products is when my stylist tries to sell me some expensive products, I can say "gee, sorry! can't have that"
  13. My OB told me that if I got constipated I should make a huge batch of popcorn, and with a large glass of water, to sit and wtach a movie and just chow down and drink up. Between the fiber from the popcorn and the water (movie really not necessary, but might as well enjoy yourself) it will help move things along.
  14. I know exactly how you feel. I'd started the gluten-free diet and was doing well, then because I was finally feeling better I was so dang paranoid about getting sick that I found myself not eating. Christmas dinner, I sat there starving - even though my parents are very aware and supportive, and were reassuring me that it was all safe- I was just misrable...
  15. I posted about Universal Orlando and Margartiaville earlier this year. I had a GREAT experience! I got the same email from Chef Bob, although they didn't have any gluten-free pasta at any place I went to. I had the roast chicken at Monsters (pretty good) but the best place we ate was Mytho's, they were so helpful and the food was sooooo good. For Margartiaville...
  16. I think a lot of it has to deal with the size of your employer; do you have a Human Resource person to contact?
  17. The best tip I've heard is to compare it so samonella (sp). You can't see it, feel it, taste it etc. but it's like gluten. I can't just pick the sandwich fillings out of regular bread, just like you wouldn't eat lunchmeat that had been sitting on raw chicken.
  18. I know the Baked BBQ Lays (my favorite ) have wheat, and I wouldn't touch olestra at all... it gives you anal leakage! I have enough problems down there without adding that in, esp. as a "food ingrediant" - yuck.
  19. I can totally relate... I used to be the take out, or make it out of a box, queen. But you'll figure out ways to help take the load off. My favorite tip is the roasted chicken at my grocery store; obviously check yours to make sure it is safe, but I will pick this up at least once a week (sometimes more ) take it home, and put BBQ sauce on it, or make...
  20. And most of these people who are getting out have substance abuse problems, but I've run out of money in my program (funded by the Dept. of Corrections) to get them treatment, but if they aren't in a treatment program it's a violation of parole and they could go back to prison for it. What the heck?
  21. I work with people getting out of prison on parole. There is a huge difference between prison and jail for starters. Some of these guys I work with don't get their prescribed medicines or decent health care. I've got one guy who just got out and he went blind six months ago because they stopped giving him his medicine. I've got a woman diagnosed with...
  22. There was a Belcibo, but I think it closed down. I'd really recommend Guillo's Itallian in the Livonia area. Pasta, breadsticks and pizza I think. Very yummy. Kind of a nicer place, but you could bring kids too. But plan to enjoy a leisurely meal, it's not fast. If you're coming to Ann Arbor area, Stadium Market has both regular and gluten-free...
  23. When we were vacationing in Orlando we stayed right next to an IHOP and went there often. They claimed that this particular location did NOT put pancake batter in the omlette (although it was in good size font right on the menu) but to be safe, they would crack three eggs and make me an omlette from them. I was fine and it tasted great! They were very...
  24. I get Living Without, but admit I haven't made anything yet... but I will!
  25. Bacon egg & cheese biscuit from McD's. Pizza hut stuffed crust pizza. The gnocchi sorrento and garlic bread from the little Itallian hole-in-the-wall near me that I used to visit weekly (he probably thinks I died or moved!). Chocolate lava cake. French fries right out of the fryer. ONION RINGS. Crab Rangoons. And while my mouth is drooling at...
