ARCHIVED Subdivide The Forums Please?
Guhlia replied to GreySaber's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
I actually think that's a great idea. It might really help the moderators out too with people posting in the wrong sections. I always just view new posts, but when I put up a new post I always struggle to find the appropriate forum. Perhaps you could PM Scott and suggest this or direct him to this thread. -
ARCHIVED Birthday Cake...recipes Please?
Guhlia replied to kbabe1968's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yeah, sorghum definitely has a funky flavor. I'd sooner think though that it was more because of the bundt pan... I'm glad everyone else enjoyed it. I've also found that I have to add more sugar than the recipe calls for to make it to my liking. It really is a great base recipe though. I think next time I'm going to try adding cocoa powder and extra sugar... -
ARCHIVED Delta To Provide gluten-free Meals
Guhlia replied to laurelfla's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Just be careful with their gluten free meal. Others here have had horrible experiences with "gluten free" airline food. I'm not saying that your experience will be bad, just make sure you read labels on the prepackaged stuff and remind the stewardesses not to throw a roll on top of your meal before they serve. -
Hey Jerry, if you ever decide to... Umm... Get in touch with your feminine side... Hrmmm... The Gluten free pantry makes a kick-butt favorite sandwich bread mix. It's just a mix that you add liquid to and put in the bread machine for a few hours. It bakes up very nicely, even nicer if you add cheese, garlic, onions, and green peppers to it. It takes very...

I tried the vanilla. I thought it was relatively horrible. It's still sitting in my fridge. I've never had Slim Fast before though, so I really didn't know what to expect. It was just too thick and chalky for me to get it down. I drank about half of one and the rest have sat in my fridge since. I'm glad I bought them though... To support the labeling and...

ARCHIVED American Idol Fans?

Ya know... The more I see Phil, the more I think he's kind of freaky. I liked him in the beginning because he looked so cute holding his newborn baby girl, but... there's just something off about him. -
ARCHIVED Poll:cut Or Wear Your Hair How You Want?
Guhlia replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I think it depends on which makes you feel better... Does it make you feel better to have the hairstyle that YOU like the best? Or, does it make you feel better to have the hairstyle you know your husband prefers? Personally, I keep my hair very short, usually a 6 on the clippers, sometimes shorter, then I let it grow out and get all spikey. I cut it when... -
Judy, have you been to the one in Exton since Dave left? Is it still okay? I got glutened there the last few times I ate there, so we haven't been back. This was while Dave was still the manager though.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one whose husband does things like that...

I like Melinda because she's humble. -
What is it with guys feeling the need to shake things at us? Maybe one of the men here can enlighten us.

ARCHIVED Trident Gum

Phenylalanine doesn't give me a problem. It's in lots of things. I'd venture to guess that you've probably had it before and not even known it. Every once in a while I get a nauseous spell like that for no reason. Generally around that time of the month. Maybe that's what happened to you. Though, if you think you may be sensitive to it, I would steer clear... -
ARCHIVED Herb Cheese Bread
Guhlia replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Wow, that looks REALLY good! Any ideas on what I could sub for white wine? All I have is cooking wine w/ lemon in it. I don't think that would lend well to the recipe. -
ARCHIVED What Happened To Spring?
Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Ah yes, 74 is nice if it sticks around... Yesterday it was 80 degrees here, today we're back down to 38 degrees. What a tease!!! I'm glad I didn't put my winter jacket away!!! To think we went from playing outside in t-shirts to this just makes my heart ache. I want spring. -
ARCHIVED When Does It Stop!?
Guhlia replied to snowcoveredheart's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm not disagreeing with what Jestgar says, but... Perhaps you're still going through the gluten withdrawal period. I think I had about two months where I found it very difficult to sleep and I got raging migraines daily. Then, slowly but surely, it subsided and I began to feel like a human being again. I also had bouts of nausea along with other withdrawal... -
ARCHIVED Two Questions From A Newbie

If you have a Walmart near you, you might be able to save some money by shopping there. Their Great Value brand is very good compared to other generics AND they label gluten free on items!!! I buy most things GV brand if I can. Plus, I haven't gotten glutened once by GV. -

Were you using the mayo cake recipe? What flour blend did you use? -
Jerry, some of the Kinnikinnick breads are wonderful. They're pricey, but well worth it if you're craving bread. Make sure to freeze them upon receipt and then toast slices when needed. Mission corn tortillas are good to make wrap sandwiches with. That's what we used to do. Also, if you find a good pancake recipe, you can use the pancakes as bread. It sounds...

Occasionally I can eat small amounts of gluten without getting sick, but I don't recommend doing it. By intentionally glutening yourself (if you have Celiac) you can eventually cause irreparable damage to your intestines which can lead to many, many bad things such as osteoperosis, mental illness, etc... Even cancer has been linked to Celiac when a strict...

Red Bridge beer made by Anheiser-Busch is gluten free and wonderful! It's also the cheapest of the gluten free beers AND relatively easy to find. Ask your local grocery store or beer distributor to start carrying it for you. It shouldn't be a problem getting it in since it's made by AB. -
ARCHIVED American Idol Fans?
Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yeah, Amanda, this is definitely the worst year in Idol history. Although, the first year was pretty weak too. I think once we get to the top 5 things will be up to par a bit more. Imagine a stage full of Blakes, Ginas, LaKishas, and Melindas. That's what the other years have been like. There's usually one bad one and then the rest are somewhere between great... -
You know, you're right. Most of us have been through a heck of a time too before we got diagnosed. We all deserve "the good ones".

ARCHIVED What Happened To Spring?

Capris and shorts are pretty much all I bought for maternity wear. I have two pairs of jeans and a pair of khakis from my last pregnancy. My long sleeved maternity shirts aren't fitting right anymore and I'm starting to have to layer my maternity tank tops with zip up front sweatshirts. It's getting frustrated. My big maternity clothing is all summer/spring... -

Kinnikinnick.com has AMAZING gluten free/casein free New York Style Bagels. They're great with peanut butter or jam. I think there's also a dairy free cream cheese around, but I don't know the name or where you might find such a thing. They also have cinnamon buns (Gluten-free Casein-free) and absolutely amazing breads. What about dippy eggs with some gluten... -
ARCHIVED New Girl - Trying To Work Out The Ropes!
Guhlia replied to snowcoveredheart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know if this relates at all, but I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder after years of being misdiagnosed as bipolar. My symptoms have all but vanished after being gluten free. They first started to noticeably wan after about a year gluten free, after three years gluten free I think shrinks would likely tell me I'm pretty normal. I feel...
