ARCHIVED Sort Of Strange Gluten Responce From Company, Should I Try This
Guhlia replied to rlemmon's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree that these responses are on the rise, but... Let me clarify that... I think the majority of the "new" CYA statements are coming from companies that pretty much just ignored us before or didn't understand how serious the issues were. I think the whole McDonalds thing may have been a God send for us. It really brought things into the public eye. I know... -
ARCHIVED Shampoo...
Guhlia replied to Cornhusker's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dove shampoo was gluten free the last time I checked. That's what my husband uses sometimes. As far as I know the Suave men's shampoo is also gluten free. Make sure you always double check lables. Gluten will be clearly listed on both of those products (Unilever). -
Just a thought... Your body may be going through gluten withdrawal. When I went gluten free I got well very quickly, then got sick again, then got well again and stayed well. This may be the case for you too. I would try and go med free for a few days and see if that helps. Your body may just be screaming at you for cutting gluten (a very addictive substance...

Thanks so much for all the great info! Any place very close to Orlando (we have no car) that carries gluten free beer? I'm dying to try some, no one carries it in PA.

samking -- do you know which places can do the safest gluten free meals? I'm thinking that their hotel room will probably be in the i-drive area and they'll likely want to do touristy food (as long as there's a bar on site, i'm sure they'll make do). any clue if bahama breeze can accomodate a gluten free meal? that was my favorite restaurant down there pre...

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Orlando. It's my favorite place to travel. I'm just freaking out cuz it's my first time travelling alone.

Okay, so my friend calls me on Sunday and tells me that she and her boyfriend are going to be in Orlando, FL this weekend. They begged me to come join them, offered up their spare bed in the hotel room and everything. I'm very scared of flying, and have certainly never flown alone. I bought my plane tickets this morning while my two-year-old was throwing...

ARCHIVED Mmm Bacon!
Guhlia replied to lightningfoot speakin words's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oscar Meyer is gluten free (always re-check the labels though, Kraft won't hide gluten). Hormel black label is gluten free also, that's my fave. -
ARCHIVED Microwave Bread Recipe
Guhlia replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You would make single serving slices... I pour the batter out into rubbermaid containers (a little less than 1/2" deep) and then I refrigerate them until needed. There's no egg, so I imagine the batter would keep pretty well in the fridge. Jessica, those were the posts that I was talking about fueling my desire for a recipe. The food-tek prices are pretty... -
Okay guys, ever since the Easy Bake oven posts, I've been working on formulating a good microwave cooked bread. I think I almost have it. I'm hoping that those of you who like to bake/cook will help me perfect it. Here's what I have so far: 3/4 cup flour blend (6 parts white rice flour, 2 parts potato starch, 1 part tapioca flour) 3/4 cup Bette Hagman...

ARCHIVED Lunch On The Go
Guhlia replied to Hells Bells's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think if I were in my car all day every day I would buy one of those mini-fridges that hook up to your cig lighter. Or you could just pack a cooler every day for lunch. That would probably be much cheaper. Corn tortilla sandwiches work well in a cooler as do cheese cubes, sweet balogna/cream cheese rolls, cold chicken w/ bbq sauce, carrots and ranch dressing... -
ARCHIVED Your Toddlers Fav Foods?
Guhlia replied to kimber's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oooohhh yeah... I forgot about the Envirokidz bars. They're sure to be a hit. Just make sure that the rest of your family doesn't eat them before your little celiac can get a bite. That's how they go in my house. They're oh so good though. Also, nonfat unsweetened yogurt mixed wtih either apple butter or honey. My daughter LOVES that as her bedtime snack... -
ARCHIVED I Want Crispy French Fries
Guhlia replied to jennyj's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Ore-Ida fast food fries... They're the closest thing... Broil them. They are gluten free. -

ARCHIVED Shocking Story
Guhlia replied to Gcbec's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My heart goes out to you. I can't imagine going through what you're going through. I couldn't choke the tears back when I read your story. I hope to GOD that you get your kids back and I hope that you can get a proper diagnosis for your son because it sure sounds to me like he has Celiac. -
ARCHIVED Heartburn
Guhlia replied to ekdumas19's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Heartburn
Guhlia replied to ekdumas19's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Are Rolaids gluten free? I get heartburn sometimes when I'm mildly glutened. I hope you feel better soon. That's such a nasty feeling. -
ARCHIVED 7/06 Weirdest Thing Is Happening
Guhlia replied to debmidge's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Actually, anything that has been dramatically reduced in the diet should only be re-entered slowly. However, if you felt better gluten free, you should probably seek testing. -
ARCHIVED Willow Valley, Lancaster Pa
Guhlia replied to de caps's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Willow Valley is just outside of Lancaster in Willow Street, PA. It's actually part of a huge retirement home complex and a guest "resort". It's located on 272, just south of Lancaster and only 25 minutes from the MD/PA line. It's minutes from all of the Amish attractions, Dutch Wonderland, Rockvale Square outlets, Tanger outlets, etc. Thank you SOOOOOOO... -
That sounds like excessive weight loss and i'm surprised your doctor hasn't stepped in. However, after saying that... I totally agree with you about having had the urge to eat before, but never the hunger pangs like now. I've gotten used to them over the past two years, but I never had them before in my life. I always just had an urge to eat, never physical...

Red Lobster is definitely not the most Celiac friendly place... Try eating off the gluten free menu at Outback or PF Changs first and see if you still feel horrible.
-
Propel fitness water is great for when you get glutened. It's fortified with lots of vitamins. Lots of people on here use it when glutened. Give it a shot if you can.
-
Hey, Lister... I just had a thought about your stomach burning... I was thinking about it and realized that I never experienced hunger until I went gluten free. Perhaps this is just what hunger feels like. That's what my hunger pangs feel like. Just a thought... I could be totally off base. I was surprised by those feelings and sounds too though when I first...

ARCHIVED Gillians Rolls
Guhlia replied to skinnyminny's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Open Original Shared Link It's well worth placing an order. Everything I've had from them has been amazing, especially their onion rolls. They're GREAT for hot sandwiches. I think everything is lactose free as well. -
ARCHIVED I'm Fine, Then I Am Not...
Guhlia replied to Chelle15's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
After my gluten challenge last year I had a really hard time getting back my energy. I would feel great for a few hours, and then it would hit me like a truck and I'd have to take a nap otherwise I'd feel flu-like for the rest of the day. It went away after a few weeks, but it was pretty bad while it lasted. I feel for ya. Hope you're feeling better soon...
