ARCHIVED Help Me With This Pie Crust!
Mango04 replied to blondebombshell's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Do you have a health food store nearby? I believe Arrowhead Mills (or maybe Erewhon) makes gluten-free corn flakes. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Pantry Pie Crust Mix
Mango04 replied to caragj's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I was thinking the same thing. Every time I'm in the gluten-free section of my local store and I see the GFP stuff I think, "hmmm Patti really likes this stuff...maybe I should try it..." -
ARCHIVED How Do I Make A Cf Graham Cracker/cookie Type Crust
Mango04 replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for the info I was actually wondering if I should process the cookies first, then add the oil, or just put it all together in the blender. I was going to use Spectrum shortening...now I'm wondering if coconut oil would be better, or even a more neutral walnut oil? Such complicated decisions...LOL -
ARCHIVED Cooking Gluten Free Food In College
Mango04 replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I had a George Foreman in college - it made things really easy. Rice cookers come in handy too (especially the ones that allow you to steam rice and veggies at the same time). If you put some meat on the George Foreman, some rice and veggies in the rice cooker...and press some buttons...you'll quickly have food to last for a few meals. Baked chicken... -
ARCHIVED Is There Casein In Lactose?
Mango04 replied to tarabara's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lactose in medications and supplements should technically be free of casein. You should choose another brand if you're not comfortable taking it though. -
ARCHIVED How Do I Make A Cf Graham Cracker/cookie Type Crust
Mango04 replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Well it's been a productive day at work....learning about pie crusts I was thinking graham cracker and cookie crusts were pretty much the same thing, but I guess not quite LOL. Same concept though I guess. I want to go home and make it right now! I want to do a test run, but I'll try to refrain.. Do you think the diet thread people... -

ARCHIVED How Do I Make A Cf Graham Cracker/cookie Type Crust
Mango04 replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks Julie. I'll try the 1 1/2 to 3 tbsp thing and see how it works. I'm for some reason I'm the designated dessert baker on Thanksgiving. My family is apparantly under the false impression that I know how to bake things I'm excited to try and make this pie though -
ARCHIVED How Do I Make A Cf Graham Cracker/cookie Type Crust

Thanks guys. That tahini idea sure sounds interesting (by interesting I mean a little weird...but I bet it's good!) Hey, I see Liz. Hi Liz...I'm thinking of making this crust and filling it with that ice creamy, dreamy pumpkin pie recipe (or whatever it's called) you posted. Now here's my really, really dumb question of the day. It needs... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Make A Cf Graham Cracker/cookie Type Crust
Mango04 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm thinking would be as easy at putting the cookies in a food processor, adding a little bit of Spectrum shortening, coconut oil or walnut oil to hold it together, then pressing it into a pan. Is there anything else I should add to it? -
I don't really use recipes or much mainstream stuff, but my substitutes for casein include coconut oil, olive oil, Spectrum sortening, rice milk and hemp milk. There isn't a lot of soy in homemade thanskgiving food, so that part is easy. If you want an easy desert, try Open Original Shared Link. It's really good.

ARCHIVED After 5 Months No Change - What Next?
Mango04 replied to mattj's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, dairy could be the problem. You should consider cutting it out for a while to find out for sure... -
It can be a sign that your body is detoxing.

ARCHIVED Nutty Flax Cereal
Mango04 replied to hathor's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorghum and flax can both cause problems for people with leaky gut. Sorghum is also known to be one of the moldier grains, so that can be a problem for some people too (especially people who have other conditions or haven't completely healed). So...if you react...it might not be from gluten... -

I eat it all the time and don't ever react... -
ARCHIVED Acne And Gluten...
Mango04 replied to blondebombshell's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've been reading the holistic section of the message boards at acne.org. Tons and tons of people over there are gluten intolerant. I think there's a connection between the gene that causes severe acne and the gene that causes gluten intolerance. In the case of mild acne, I'd guess that it might clear up for good once you remain gluten-free. -
Oh c'mon...it's good! (Tastes nothing like green beans - but I love green beans...yum!) Thanks...that's a good site.
-
No, but yum! I have a juicer too so I'll try that, thanks. LOL yeah, that's why I'm starting out slow...with wimpy spinach drinks The one I made this morning tasted really good, but I was informed by ppl in the office that it resembled a science project of some sort (I personally thought it was pretty, but oh well )
-
For some reason I'm suddenly into this idea of making green smoothies for breakfast. This morning I blended frozen mangoes, banana and spinach. Yum! I'm wondering what other types of strange green concoctions I can create in my blender. Does anybody know what else is good? Chard, kale...um, what else?

ARCHIVED Gluten & Dairy Free Recipes
Mango04 replied to Jo Ann's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made Open Original Shared Link the other day. It was really good and very easy to make. Edit: If she can't have honey, you can easily do without it in the above recipe. Can she have fruit? -
ARCHIVED Dairy-free, Soy-free Whipped Topping
Mango04 replied to lonewolf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Ooh, I really want to try this. Let's all go whip some coconut milk, then compare results jmd3 - this has nothing to do with whipping dairy and soy-free things, but is that the twelve apostles in your avatar? I have a very similiar photo (except your avatar is much prettier) Now that I'm all off-topic I feel the need to add something... -
ARCHIVED Gfcfsf Birth Control Pills
Mango04 replied to Offthegrid's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you google around a bit you should come across a website with information about the only lactose-free birth control pill. I don't remember what it's called, but there supposedly is one. I'm casein, lactose, soy and gluten intolerant, but I've been able to take Yasmin and Alesse. -
ARCHIVED I Am Going To Try Nixing The Soy...
Mango04 replied to FootballFanatic's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There's nothing wrong with cutting out soy, but you might be getting dizzy from all the sugar. You can try balancing things out a bit with a little protein (hard boiled egg, nut butter etc.) and see if that helps. I don't eat much meat, but I get extremely dizzy if I just eat bread-type products and fruit and nothing else. Also, are you on any medications... -
I think he's correct in saying: This seems to be the common belief among most of the "celiac experts." I'm not stating my personal opinion here, but I've never heard or read anything outside of this board that says people with celiac disease must avoid all topical gluten-containing products.

ARCHIVED Who Has Gfcfsf Brownie Recipe?
Mango04 replied to Offthegrid's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Use Bob's Red Mill brownie mix - coconut oil instead of butter - then add some Enjoy Life chocolate chips. Sooooo good
