  1. Taz - you want the Pure in the yellow/ orange container. Tesco and Asda both sell it - I imagine Sainsbury's probably do too. Certainly health food shops will. I'm really fussy about the flavour of margarine (I only ever liked Flora or Clover) and I actually like this one. It's soy free too. should also have said - it works well in cakes I haven...
  2. Thank you!
  3. Now that I'm going public, I guess I'm committed to doing an elimination diet! I've been thinking of doing an elimination diet for a long time now, and thought it would be helpful to blog it - both for myself, and for others, as I know so many of us have issues with foods in addition to gluten. A little bit about me and how I got to this stage. ...
  4. I just created my blog and can find it if I go to 'my blog' but not if I go to the list of blogs. Where has it gone?
  5. I've adapted the milk loaf recipe in Carolyn Humphries book and this is really delicious... 1 large egg 1 1/4 cups milk (I use rice milk which adds to the yumminess ) 1 tbsp oil 1/4 tsp salt 1 tbsp superfine sugar 2 cups white rice flour 2 tsp xanthum gum 1 sachet dried yeast 1 tsp cinnamon or mixed spice couple of handfuls of dried...
  6. Thanks for the support everyone I am actually quite excited in a strange sort of a way, cos very few of my symptoms have actually got better since going gluten-free (10 mths ago), even though I've been so very careful. So it's actually great to be finally geting somewhere. It also gives me more incentive to do the dreaded elimination diet thing If I...
  7. I think it's POTATOES So, now I need to eliminate them and see how I do. Can't believe I can be allergic to my two favourite foods - potatoes and chocolate I am going to eliminate all nightshades, as I'm pretty sure they all give me stomach symptoms. I'm going to immerse myself in my work (other people's problems!) so that I don't get hysterical...
  8. Courtney - well done for sticking at this I want to do a strict elimination diet like this too, but I'm not quite ready yet. I haven't yet figured out what I'm going to snack on - I get hungry all the time, and I don't know how I would manage to keep to such a limited diet without caving in when I get hungry. I've started planning and will get there to...
  9. I bought new plastic containers just for me and had labels printed with 'gluten free' on them which are dishwasher safe. Now no one has any excuses for contaminating my stuff! I felt I had to get new plastic containers, otherwise the not knowing whether they were glutening me would be a problem.
  10. Not sure if this is what you mean but lots of people here have been able to identify a stressful life situation (often health related) as a trigger for the onset of their celiac disease: Open Original Shared Link HTH And CONGRATULATIONS! Great to hear about your engagement! Angelle, you look so much like one of my friends, it's uncanny! Lets...

    ARCHIVED Hives

I think it must be something in gluten free products, as that's the only thing that's changed for me. I can't see that it could be a contact allergy - if it was any sort of detergent, why haven't I had it before (I've not changed detergent) and I get it when I'm wearing dry cleaned clothes as well as home cleaned clothes; I don't get it on my top, even though...

    ARCHIVED Hives

I'm having trouble tracking down what is causing my hives, which appear in cluster of 3 or 4, usually on or around my hips, knees or buttocks (I've had them for the past 3 or 4 months). How long does it take to develop hives if it's from something you ingest? I'm pretty sure it's not something I'm touching, as I've not changed cleaning products etc Thanks...
  14. Every time I have chocolate, I get depressed the next day. This happens whether it's milk or soya chocolate, but not really with dark chocolate. It's always the next day. It doesn't happen when I eat other dairy stuff eg cheese/ milk so I don't think it's that. And how come I'm OK with dark choc? (except that I'm not cos dark choc gives me headaches - just...
  15. Hi there Your story sounds very similar to mine. I was diagnosed with IBS having had stomach problems for a while. My sister had already been diagnosed with celiac disease, but I had a negative blood test. Consequently, when I had an endoscopy, they didn't even do a biopsy If only I'd discovered this board back then! I too had pains in my side...
  16. Hi! I live in Coventry. there are a few of us lurking around here somewhere Have you joined Coeliac UK? They will provide a book which lists gluten free products. How far down the road are you with going gluten-free?
  17. The wormery is an alternative to a compost heap. great for small gardens as it's compact and the worms process very efficiently. Great also for small boys who love the fact that we are recycling our veggie and fruit peelings into worm wee and poo! Great also for worms, who now have a longer life expectancy as aforementioned small boy preserves them for...
  18. If anyone wants to eat worms, the ones in my wormery are gluten free Big hugs Lisa Susie xxx
  19. And there I was thinking today that autumn's just arrived cos, despite it being really sunny, the washing didn't dry on the line. I'm so jealous of your snow! I'm a big kid when it comes to snow Not that we get much here
  20. bumping up this thread to say...me and DS have built our wormery at last We are so proud of it. As you can imagine, DS (3 1/2) loves the idea of collecting worm wee and poo to put on the garden He's a little impatient for it to work though and has commented on how the worms are slow eaters like he is Just hope it works now and the worms survive.
  21. Happy birthday everyone Hey - it's my 10 month anniversary of being gluten-free today...does that count?
  22. Hi Nikki i've only just picked up on this thread. I too catch accents really easily. I grew up 'down south' so my accent ought to be 'Queen's English' but, since living in the midlands, my southern friends have said I've developed a brummie accent. Surely not!! And when posting here, I have to fight the urge to 'say' hey instead of hi! Susie x
  23. I have to say, I just let any arguing drift over my head...brain fog helps with that lol This sort of thing will unfortunately always happen on a chat board where there are so many different people with different opinions contributing. So much of the stuff out there on food intolerances etc is controversial and confusing, so there are bound to be 'debates...
  24. Re-reading this thread as I think it might provide me with the key to my recovery - the advice all seems fairly sensible 'healthy living' stuff anyway. Carla, how are you doing? Sorry if I've missed you posting else where about this....guess what, I'm too tired to read all the threads... Could you give me an idea of your typical day's diet? I've...
  25. Hi Carla Yes I am putting in place plans to do an elimination diet, so watch this space! DH had a good idea to help in the battle against cc. the website that we buy DS's name labels for school from does labels that stick on and survive the dishwasher. So I've had a whole bunch printed saying 'gluten free' so that no one poisons my utensils (I've...
