ARCHIVED Telling Our Daughter About Her Diagnosis
chrissy replied to cmdt's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
three of my girls were diagnosed with celiac the week between christmas and new years. one daughter (15) had rashes, and her twin sister had been nauseated for about 3 months. my 11 year old really didn't have much in the way of symptoms. we had just tested the rest of the family after the first twin had gotten positive blood work. my basically symptom... -
ARCHIVED The Hospital Is Feeding My Child Gluten!
chrissy replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
i finally got a call from the dietician. after talking to her about my concerns i realize that she knows her stuff---she worked in a GI clinic at one time. it seems that the mistakes have come from the kitchen staff. i think that she will check on things----she said that the kitchen has certain procedures they are supposed to follow---separate cutting... -
ARCHIVED The Hospital Is Feeding My Child Gluten!
chrissy replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
i was finally able to talk to someone "in charge" and told them the situation and requested that a TTg test be run. this should give us a good idea of what is happening with her diet. i talked to a nurse earlier who told me that tianna had not eaten the rice crispies yesterday------but i am not certain if she has been given them other times and if so, whether... -
ARCHIVED The Hospital Is Feeding My Child Gluten!
chrissy posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
my frustration is mounting over my daughter's care while she is inpatient for her eating disorder. i was not impressed with what she was being fed while we were there and told them so. i told the clinician that i could feed my daughter better than the hospital----and now i KNOW i was right. tianna called me today to tell me they had been feeding her rice... -

ARCHIVED Slacking Off Lexipro And Acid And Gerd Returning
chrissy replied to Lisa's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
if your ins has a set price for all PPIs, you might try switching to prevacid-----they have a 25$ rebate you can send in. i have 2 children on prevacid which costs us $50 a month, each, so it saves me alot of money to use the rebates. my youngest child had surgery for reflux that was very successful-------i'd like to have the surgery done on one of my... -
debmidge----my husband and i are both on thyroid meds for the exact reason you are!! kevin had half of his thyroid removed, also, because his needle biopsy was inconclusive. i had numerous small nodules, instead of one large one, like kevin had, so they did not do surgery on me. the doc that had treated kevin said to me, "i can't believe i am seeing you...

ARCHIVED Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better
chrissy posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
well, my daughter is still in the hospital with her eating disorder------they don't want to release her until she has gained more weight, even though she is back to the weight she was at in december. we tried to tell them that most of our children are thin and small (someone HAS to be low to get an average). we understand that she will still have ED behaviors... -
ARCHIVED Another Newbie....working Backwards...hypotonia?
chrissy replied to noodles mommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just keep in mind that blood tests are not totally accurate for celiac, and often miss many diagnoses. Only intestinal biopsies and an elimination/challenge diet are effective ways to diagnose celiac. sorry to disagree, but intestinal biopsies are not always accurate, either. one of my girls had a negative biopsy, another had an iffy biopsy, and the... -
as an adult, you can elect to have the surgery at any time. my youngest daughter was born with a hiatal hernia. she had surgery when she was almost 10 months old. the surgery is called a fundoplication. the top of the stomach is wrapped around the bottom of the esophagus to creat an artificial valve----and the opening in the diaphragm is closed.

i found this when i was looking up info on fibromyalgia-------something to do with glyconutrients. i was thinking it might be something helpful----and then i read this....... I was diagnosed with Celiac Sprue in Dec 1990. This condition is “incurable” and is an intolerance to wheat, oats, rye and barley (anything with gluten). I had a lot of gastric pai...

chrissy replied to hez's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Celiac/exzema - Any Connection?
chrissy replied to Debbie65's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
we picked up the celiac in our 3 girls because one of them had rashes in the places that DH usually presents itself------once she went gluten free, the rashes cleared up------so fast, in fact, that i'm not sure if it was really DH or not, but at least it clued us in to celiac. -
ARCHIVED Kinni-kwik Bread And Bun Mix
chrissy posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
have any of you used this? i had never heard of it until i went to the newly opened gluten-free store in boise. you only add water or milk and it doesn't have to rise. it even gives directions for making an individual bun. it has a really nice texture. the gal said she sells out of it pretty fast. i think i will try and keep it on hand whenever possible... -

ARCHIVED Liver Cause Of Celiac Did Anyone See This Site?!
chrissy replied to Webcrystal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
my dad is a big believer in liver flukes being the cause of cancer. he read Hulda Clark's book *the cure for all cancer*. my sister has done colon cleanses combined with a special diet for candida and fibromyalgia----she really felt like it helped her. the problem with so many natural cures is that they cost an arm and a leg, and ins. doesn't cover... -

ARCHIVED Fading More Each Day
chrissy replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
lister, you remind me just a bit of my oldest son----and myself when i was in my days of severe anxiety. i worried about everything (as does my son) i finally realized that there were certain thing i had to do to make myself feel better---regardless of what other people thought, or how irrational they seemed to other people. just one example-----i would... -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
chrissy replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
TCA---what is your name, anyway?LOL!! i'd love to hear what program that gal is in---especially since we are out west, also. i think that the program in seattle is a good program, but it is a long way for us to go. 2 1/2 hours to get to the airport, the flight is short, but then it is another 45 min drive into seattle. she really needed to be in-patient... -
ARCHIVED Do You Know About These Foods?
chrissy posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
does anyone know if the ready-made kroger brand ranch dip in the refridgerated section (by the sour cream) is gluten free? what cheese sauce packets are gluten free in the mac and cheese boxes? it would be so much cheaper for me to use my own gluten-free noodles with a cheese sauce packet from another box. i also think i have heard that lipton onion soup... -
ARCHIVED Liver Cause Of Celiac Did Anyone See This Site?!
chrissy replied to Webcrystal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
unless you are one of the celiacs that has obvious symptoms, waiting to see if the reaction lessens is foolish, because the damage to the intestines is being done regardless of obvious reactions. there are people with horrible reactions and little damage and there are people with no reaction whatsoever and total villious atrophy. i have 3 children with...
