  1. 1. Yes. We keep individual packs of things in our garage to send to school. The only reason we keep them in the garage is our kids are 3, 5 and 7 with the 3yr old having celiac. Our rule is absolutely no gluten in the house since they are young and forgetful. And that way he knows everything in his home is always safe. If your kids are safe enough there should...
  2. Your audience might work better as "someone who may have celiac or someone who may interact with a person with celiac". I know many educators and family members who would love to learn more about celiac in order to interact with students or family members more safely. This is a great project! Maybe you could post it online somewhere and share the link once...
  3. We eat it every week or at least every other week. My three year old is the only one who currently has celiac (husband and another child have the gene but it hasn't triggered). He is quite articulate and has never complained of any issues nor have I noticed any outward symptoms from him. His numbers (ttg) have decreased significantly since his diagnosis in...
  4. We drink both with no issues.
  5. Mine definitely have classic toddler favorites. Target has Frozen (like the movie) gluten free chicken nuggets that mine love. Costco also has chicken nuggets they like...I think they are Tyson brand but I'm not sure. He used to love goldfish, and it was hard to find a good substitute. Live Gluten-Free cheese crackers from Aldis are one he really likes. I...
  6. We had a similar experience. My son is three now. When he was two, we noticed he was not gaining weight, was throwing up sporadically and was having weird stools everyday. We took him to the pediatrition and did stool, blood and urine samples. His antibody levels were through the roof (300) so we were referred to a pediatric gi dr. The gi dr said we could...
  7. I'm trying to find gluten free sprinkles to send to school with my son. I tried searching the forum, but the posts I've found about sprinkles are all years old. Does anyone have a brand of sprinkles (for decorating sugar cookies) that they know are celiac safe? Thanks!
  8. And there are doctors who will diagnose celiac without a biopsy. Our son has the formal diagnosis with just the antibody test and genetic test. He will be able to have a 504 once he enters school that will protect him and afford him the assistance he needs to remain gluten free at school.
  9. Being gluten free for a week won't have provided enough time to heal his intestines. There are kids who go gluten free for months and still haven't healed their intestines completely.
  10. My then two year old was having stomach issues. Our pediatrition ran all possible tests and his antibodies came back very high (300). We were referred to a pediatric gi dr with suspicions of celiac. He gave us two options. 1) Continue eating gluten and get biopsy. 2) Because of the high antibody level, get genetic testing. In Europe it's very common with...
  11. Thanks for the link to the recent comments! Do you know anything about the Lucky Charms? I'm thinking the process is similar to the Cheerios. My son was retested after 6 months and his antibodies had dropped from 300 to 71. We are having him retested after 6 more months instead of a year hoping his levels will have reached normal. That's part of why I'm so...
  12. I was wondering what the popular opinion is on the safety of gluten free cheerios? I know they have a controversial process to get the gluten out of the oats, and I know they had a slip up about a year ago where they put wheat flour in some batches. I'm assuming after all the bad press that General Mills is testing the heck out of the product to ensure safety...
  13. The link won't work for me. Anyone else having problems?
  14. We had a very similar experience with our two year old 6 months ago. He was having stomach aches, weird bowel movements and random vomiting episodes. His ttg levels from our regular pediatrition came back at 300 which made him suspect celiac and we were referred to a pediatric gi doctor. They couldn't get us in for over a month so I called our pediatrition...
  15. My son's antibodies were 300. Based on his extremely high levels, his pediatric GI suggested genetic testing instead of the biopsy. Genetic testing can't diagnose celiac on its own but combined with such high levels, the gi dr was confident a positive genetic test would confidently diagnose celiac. He warned that biopsies are small snapshots of the intestine...
  16. My two year old was just diagnosed a little over three months ago. We have chosen to be extremely careful and overly cautious until we can go in for his follow up and see how much better he has gotten. There are so many different symptoms and some people don't outwardly show much. But that doesn't mean their body isn't being harmed immensely on the inside...
  17. We took my two year old to the pediatrician for stomach issues. His blood tests made our ped suspect celiac so he referred us to a ped gi specialist. They couldn't get us in for 1.5 months. I called the regular ped office back and our ped put in a call to the ped gi specialist. Low and behold they found an opening within two weeks! (Huge eye roll) Maybe you...
  18. My son was diagnosed with celiac three months ago. He is two, so our whole house went gluten free for his safety. I have never had any gluten sensitivity or really any food reactions that I'm aware of. I have had gluten two times in the past three months and have had no reaction at all. I might not be the best case because it hasn't been years of a strictly...
  19. I would stick with the prepackaged gluten free selections at Dairy Queen if you're worried about cross contamination. For example the dilly bars.
  20. Does anyone know for sure if Hershey's special dark chocolate bars are gluten free or not? The Hershey's company doesn't include them in their list of gluten free products. But the special dark nuggets, chips and syrup are included. What is different about the bars that would make them not gluten free? Thought I'd ask here before contacting them directly...
  21. I don't want to be rude, but not everyone wants to use cloth diapers. I'm all for helping the environment, and if you can manage to use cloth more power to you. My family chose not to use cloth for many personal reasons. "heatman" if you'd like to change to cloth diapers, they would be for sure gluten free and it would be great for many reasons. Our nutritionist...
  22. Yikes, I never thought of gluten in diapers! My two year old has celiac and wears Pampers Swaddlers with no issues. We've never used Honest diapers so I can't address your question. Thank you for bringing it to my attention about diapers though!
  23. My two year old is newly diagnosed (so we don't have a ton of info) but the timing you are describing sounds a lot like him before he was diagnosed and went gluten free. He would go all day seeming fine most days and then randomly around midnight-2am would throw up. He also had the distended tummy and low weight for his age.
  24. We use Florajen 3 as well. Most pharmacies keep it behind the counter so be sure to ask.
  25. My two year old son has been diagnosed with celiac for almost three months. So far, I think we have done well keeping him completely gluten free. Our biggest worry is cross contamination because he is so young and constantly putting his hands in his mouth. My question is, how long does it take to show signs that he was glutened? He complained of a stomachache...
