Welcome to the forum, tygerlily! Your symptoms scream of celiac disease but you could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). They share many of the same symptoms. There is no reliable test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. NCGS is 10x more common than celiac disease. NCGS does not cause blunted small bowel villi as does celiac...

I'm wondering if hour sensitivity to sunlight and the rash it produces is due to the Lupis. Isn't that one of the classic symptoms of Lupis? And I second Wheatwacked's suggestion about D3 supplementation. Insufficient D3 levels is likely the cause of many of our health issues. It's turning out to be the master vitamin in some ways. And the RMDA for D...

I see. Do you live in a French speaking country? Also, have you considered that you may have other food intolerances/sensitivities not related to gluten?
-
Okay. Just never heard that term used in that context. We usually just talk about, "trialing a gluten free diet".

Miscarriages - celiac diagnosis?
trents replied to Charlotte9898's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Charlotte, have you had the serum antibody testing done for celiac disease already? You don't mention that but you allude to "the test to see how bad the damage is" which sounds like the second stage of testing for celiac disease, namely, the endoscopy with biopsy of the small bowel. I want to reiterate what Cristiana said about continuing to consume... -
I suppose we could quibble over terminology but one way to understand DH is that it is an epidermal expression of celiac disease in addition to or in place of (in a small percentage of cases) the gut manifestation. So, what I am saying is that the dermatologist's understanding of celiac disease may be too narrow. In other words, a small percentage of people...

Welcome to the forum, zach r! Are you still consuming either oats or dairy? These are common cross reactors in the celiac community as their proteins are similar to gluten. Also, have you looked into histamine intolerance and MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) and into SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth). Again, common maladies found on...

It can be challenging to separate fact from friction. On this website, the moderators and the knowledgeable ones will typically call out false information. And sometimes we just don't agree with one another. Celiac.org is another trusted source. The Gluten Free Watchdog is another but some features are not available without paying a fee to become a member...

Learning that you have celiac disease is a shocker to most people. It begins to dawn on them very quickly that it will demand major changes, not only in their eating habits but in their social lives as well. It can be overwhelming at first. But believe me, you will adjust and in time it will be come the new norm.

I would think that using shared dishwater is not an issue as long as you rinse well. If you are worried about CC from shared countertops, just make sure you cut and prepare food on a clean plate or cutting board/cutting plastic sheet. Being a silent celiac is both a blessing and a curse. It's a blessing in that it spares you pain and suffering (at least...

Celiac disease does not damage the stomach but rather the lining of the small bowel. So, if they biopsied your stomach, they wouldn't have found anything. One thing we see with celiac disease in children and youth is that it can come and go, or more properly, go into remission. Young people are very resilient and their bodies do a better job of fighting disease...

Welcome to the forum, RD! First, it is not unusual at all for people diagnosed with celiac disease to have no discernible physical symptoms. We call them "silent" celiacs. To a large degree, I was one of them. Second, just because you were recently diagnosed with celiac disease does not mean you haven't been living with the condition long before...

Barry, I would advise getting a follow-up celiac antibody test in 6 mos. to a year from your original diagnosis to determine if you are being successful in avoiding gluten. Also, be aware that food companies can and do change their formulations. What was once gluten free may not stay that way forever so it's smart to continue to read labels and not assume...

Welcome to the forum, Barry W! Can you give us the actual names of the apps? Personally, I do not rely on apps to avoid gluten and I don't think many of our members on this forum do, at least not those who have been dealing with celiac disease for awhile. The problem with them is their usefulness and reliability depend on input from app users. So...

Yours is a very interesting case. Normally, having DH is proof positive that one has celiac disease. Yet, your only positive for celiac disease is the IGG and that is a secondary, less specific test for celiac disease that could be caused by other things. I would have expected a positive for tTG-IGA. We do know that a small percentage of those who have DH...

Actually, let me correct myself. It was not seven years between first evidence of elevated liver enzymes and celiac diagnosis. But it was about seven years after I began seeking answers in earnest.
-
Did your testing demonstrate that, in fact, you do have celiac disease? Did your testing indicate that, in fact, you do have celiac disease?
-
Seven years. I first became aware of it when I went to donate blood at a Red Cross bloodmobile in about 1987 and they sent me notice that they couldn't use my blood because of the elevated liver enzymes because it suggested hepatitis. I made an appointment with my primary care doc to check that out and I did not have hepatitis. At the same time my iron levels...

One of the defining characteristics of dermatitis herpetiformis ("DH") is little blisters. Since you've already been diagnosed with celiac disease, there's not much point in getting a skin biopsy to confirm DH but having DH is considered definitive for a celiac disease diagnosis. There is no other known cause for DH besides celiac disease. DH can be painful...

Welcome to the forum, Karyn! Did the GI doc do the blood test and the endoscopy with biopsy to arrive at a celiac diagnosis? Normally, they first test for celiac antibodies in the blood and if there is a positive from that they will seek confirmation via an endoscopy/biopsy to microscopically examine the small bowel lining for damage. I'm asking in case...

Sure . . . if, that is, you are connected with physicians that are up on gluten disorders. But the problem is, many are not and over and over again this online community has attested to that through their real life experience. Many of us suffered the ravages of celiac disease for many years with misdiagnoses from the medical community before finally getting...
