50mcg of D3 is not near enough to address a deficiency. Try 5k-10k IU.

Another gluten-related possibility for what is causing your symptoms is NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). 10x more common than celiac disease and the two share many of the same symptoms. However, there are no definitive tests for NCGS yet. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. Yes, I think I would push for an endoscopy/biopsy if for no other reason...

Can you have DH with negative blood tests?
trents replied to Gusmom's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Along with the IGA AB and the IGA there should be numbers. What you gave is just the name of the tests, not the results. And the numbers should include reference ranges used by that particular lab since different labs use different ranges. -
My PC do always talks to me about getting back on a statin but I always refuse. My total cholesterol is not particularly high but the LDL part of it is in the red. When I was taking Lipitor years ago I developed restless leg syndrome so was put on a med for that which was only partly effective. For different reasons I made the decision to stop taking the...

Should I get tested?
trents replied to Mrs. Bond's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mrs. Bond, why are most on your mother's side eating gluten free already? If your daughter is positive, she could have gotten the gene from her father and not you. That would not necessarily prove you have celiac genes. -
Can you have DH with negative blood tests?
trents replied to Gusmom's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Welcome to the forum, Gusmom! First, it may be incorrect to distinguish DH from celiac disease. DH is the epidermal expression of celiac disease and not a separate disorder. Celiacs who have DH usually have gut involvement also but a small percentage do not. In fact, the presence of DH is considered definitive for celiac disease. There is no other known... -
No, many of them are high in oxilates. But their flours are often lower in oxalates as I think most of the oxalate content is concentrated in the hull rather than the starch and the germ.

Yes, and I knew that but got those two things turned around in my mind as I was dealing with two things at once. Let me go back and clean that post up. Thank you for catching that. No wonder you were confused. My bad. OP, note that I have edited my original post significantly so please disregard what was quoted by RMJ. But please read the linked article...

I also suggest you give some serious thought to the continued long term use of Crestor: "Possible association between statin use and bowel dysmotility": https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3291011/

Welcome to the forum, PME! First, I would l feel a need to say that you need to get this checked out as soon as possible by medical professionals. Gastroparesis, if that is actually your issue, can be a life-threatening issue. There is also the possibility of the blockage being caused by a surgical stricture (if you have ever had abdominal surgery),...

Should I get tested?
trents replied to Mrs. Bond's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum, Mrs. Bond! The symptoms you describe could be due either to celiac disease or NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). They share many of the same symptoms and NCGS is 10x more common. However, there is no reliable test available for diagnosing NCGS as of yet. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. I do believe from the testimony... -
udis gluten free bread
trents replied to akebog's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Costco's rotissorie baked chicken? We get that fairly often and never had a problem with it. But check the label next time as they may have changed the spice formulation. We had that happen some years ago with Safeway rotissorie chicken. -
new to celiac help.
trents replied to partnerofaceliacperson's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome to the forum partnerofaceliacperson! Many mainstream foods can be eaten by a celiac. You just need to make sure they don't contain wheat, barley or rye. Those are the three grains that contain the kind of gluten that do harm to celiacs and make them ill. I mention this because ready made gluten free foods and snacks tend to be expensive. The... -

What else was on the open face sandwich that gave you a gut ache? -
Yes. You are going to wind up in the ER if you continue with the gluten challenge.
-
I'm not sue it's in the interest of your own health and safety to continue the gluten challenge in order to get tested. I think you know what you need to know by now. Regardless of whether you have celiac disease or NCGS you need to totally avoid gluten.

Welcome to the forum, Sunflower89! I would suspect that you are not getting glutened, not every meal like that. That just doesn't make sense unless you are eating something that is the same for every meal that whose formulation has changed over time and now contains gluten. But to answer your question, I do not believe it would be harmful to take...

Celiac - Skin Issues and Diagnosis
trents replied to Km592's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have not had personal experience with DH but from what I have gleaned from those on this forum who do, the pic you attached shows bumps that I believe could very well be DH. It is important when having a skin biopsy for DH that it be done properly. Those in the know about these things on the forum say the biopsy should be taken from an area adjacent... -
Celiac - Skin Issues and Diagnosis
trents replied to Km592's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum, Km592! First, do you know if your GI doc took biopsies of the small bowel lining when he/she did the endoscopy? Were these sent off to a lab for microscopic analysis? Unless the damage caused by celiac disease to the villi that line the small bowel is fairly advanced, it may not be visible to during the scoping. Second, do... -
Benefiber
trents replied to ApplesWillow's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Welcome to the forum, ApplesWillow! "Gluten free" products like Benefiber which are made from wheat supposedly have had the gluten removed by a process called hydrolysis and, technically speaking, do meet the FDA requirement to advertise as gluten free because they contain less than 20ppm of gluten. We see this in other gluten free facsimile like some... -
Welcome to the forum, Barr W! When you eliminate wheat from the diet, most of us would automatically be eliminating a significant amount of carbohydrates and calories that we were taking in previously. Cravings for certain foods can be an indication of a nutrient deficiency and nutrient deficiencies generally come with the territory of celiac disease...

Oval shaped deposits in stool
trents replied to Lindafr's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum, Lindafr! I have never encountered this question before. Can you elaborate on why it occurred to you that this might be connected with celiac disease? Do you have other symptoms that suggest you might have celiac disease. What got you to thinking about celiac disease? Some more detail about your situation would be helpful. Do you... -
The company that I hear most often about n this connection is 23andMe: https://www.23andme.com/dna-health-ancestry/ Maybe some of our other members have some recommendations in this matter or personal experience with genetic testing for celiac disease. The verbage used in the test results can indeed be confusing. I'm no expert on this, believe me...
