  1. I am shocked beyond words. I suggest that your friend send her letter and that horrid response to the owner/director/board of directors/sponsors, etc. of the radio station that carries the show. For that matter, she could send them to her local paper and the local TV stations, and especially to Heide Collins at CNN.
  2. Well, then, I apologize for having the wrong impression.
  3. Karen, you are awesome!
  4. Thanks for the link, Patti--that makes everything much clearer. Not being a Martha Stewart fan, I had no idea she even had a daughter, let alone one with a radio show. Also, thanks to all who posted clarifying info. Ravenwoodglass's point (that it's the years of damage caused by years of misdiagnosis that can turn this into something deadly) especially...
  5. Rice crackers, Corn Chex (there's a gluten-free version, but I can't remember what it's called), and fresh strawberries--that's practically all I could keep down when I was pregnant (that was before I knew about gluten, so it should have been a red flag there). Hope you feel better soon!
  6. I found that the only way to kill the cravings (in may case) was to go COMPLETELY gluten-free. A little bit of gluten triggered several days of cravings. I guess it's like being addicted to drugs or alcohol--doing them one every couple of months doesn't calm the cravings, itmakes the cravings stronger. Once I was able to find acceptable gluten-free...
  7. Umm---I haven't heard of Alexis Stewart either. Who is she? And I don't know what she wrote or said that prompted you to say that she has a deficient learning curve. Could you please post that? I'm feeling a bit dumbfounded here, because for months I have been telling the friends I suspect of being celiac or gluten-intolerant that it is not the worst...
  8. I just wanted to add that maybe you don't need to stress over the medical coverage too much at this point. If celiac is your biggest problem, then you don't NEED bloodwork or a biopsy to figure things out. Dietary response is the most accurate diagnostic tool., especially if y ou've already had bloodwork indicating a problem with gluten. Second of...
  9. Bravie, it DOES get better. Really and truly. I know you're in a very tough situation right now, and it seems pointless and endless and frustrating, but please try to hang in there. Many here have no other support system than this board. Families usually just don't "get it," unless they have celiac themselves, and "friends" often simply aren't real...
  10. Thanks so much! I'm gonna go to Target tomorrow!!! I can get one for every member of the family for the same price as buying one fancy one!
  11. I was afraid to try the flax bread in the bread machine--does that work well with the almond meal, the 3 t yeast and the 3 T sugar? Do you do any other adjustments to that recipe? Last time I tried a gluten-free recipe in the bread machine, it over-rose, and I never was able to get the burned smell out of the machine. So I've been baking everything...
  12. I'm so sorry you are so ill. I do know that hyperthyroid can cause loose stools and weight loss, but I'm sure they would have already ruled out something so easy. I know you have been eating intelligently for years now, but do you think posting what you are eating and what meds you are on might help? Maybe someone here will notice a connection...
  13. Kassandra, that looks fantastic! Where in Target are those Bento-ish Boxes located?
  14. just checking in to add my prayers--keep us posted!
  15. dumb question here--what is the difference between tTG and IgG?
  16. I agree with everyone else. She is obviously dishonest. Perhaps she was trying to bake it herself and went to a lot of effort, and is now embarrassed at how bad it was, but she should have had the decency to own up to it. Yes, it gives you and your son a whole different picture of her personality and trustworthiness. Perhaps you should print this...
  17. How many shots did she get, and what were they? My middle child reacted to shots like this when he was 4 months old. It took nearly a year to go away, it didn't respond in the least to any med or cortisone cream we put on it, and he had 3 shots, so we weren't sure which he was reacting to. Strep can be diagnosed by a culture--it certainly wouldn...
  18. Woo-HOO, I can have Tootsie rolls again!!!!! Sweet! (literally...)
  19. Why would corn chips not be safe? The ingredients are corn, oil, and salt, and they are not processed on lines that process wheat ingredients. Plus, nowheatnomilk said that (s)he has had them before without a problem. Why would you suspect corn chips before the turkey?
  20. Last time I checked tootsie roll ingredients (Hallowe'en leftovers, January of '06), they had wheat starch listed in the ingredients. You might want to double-check those...
  21. SNICKERS COPYCAT BARS 2 cups chocolate chips, divided * 1 /2 cup butterscotch chips, divided * 3 /4 cup creamy peanut butter, divided * 1 cup sugar * 1 /4 cup milk * 1 /4 cup margarine * 1 cup marshmallow creme * 1 teaspoon vanilla * 1...
  22. How's he doing?????
  23. Difficult question to answer! Your diet certainly looks very healthy, especially compared with the typical diet of this country! In my own experience, coffee gives me the runs, the pre-made gluten-free breads (like Whole Foods breads) gave me tummy-aches (felt like I'd swallowed a brick), and I had to cut out dairy for a few months (gassed and bloated...
  24. Think of it this way: villi damage is often patchy, not visible to the naked eye, you have something like 22 feet of intestine, and they take 3-5 tiny samples, probably less than an inch each. Bottom line: the chances of them hitting an affected patch is at most 5 out of 264 (22 x 12). Why this was ever considered the gold standard of diagnosis...
  25. Yes, but if I have myself for a physician, at least I know my physician listens!
