ARCHIVED Chronic Ear Infections?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to sarahelizabeth's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Don't know if this will help you, but my friend's daughter was allergic to dairy, and her only symptom was constant ear infections. The doctor was ready to put tubes in or keep her on CONSTANT low-dose antibiotics for a year when my friend decided to try a naturopath, who recommended elimiinating dairy. Poof! No more ear infections. What was interesting... -
ARCHIVED Elizabeth Hasselbeck
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Sam Caine1's topic in Publications & Publicity
Since the doctor never even thought of celiac, it's likely that the doctor knows nothing about it, so discussing "suspicions of celiac" would be a waste. Personally, I think Sam needs a different doctor. My endocrinologist told me at my thyroid check-up that she screens all her diabetic patients for celiac now. IMHO, Sam's doctor is not up to par. As... -
ARCHIVED Elizabeth Hasselbeck

Jessica, I am sincerely sorry that I upset you. However, I firmly believe that what you wrote to Sam was not only grossly unfair, but it may very well have scared off any other reader who was inspired by Elizabeth Hasselbeck to try the gluten-free diet. What if your criticism of Sam for starting the diet for "less" than medical reasons results in someone... -

Fiddle-Faddle replied to Sam Caine1's topic in Publications & Publicity
Oh, Jessica, you really are missing something! Sam OBVIOUSLY has medical issues connected to gluten that were missed by his/her doctor (just like the rest of us)-- rash, overweight, and diabetes. Obviously, the gluten-free diet IS the only "cure" to getting rid of Sam's symptoms. So what if Sam only tried the diet as a weight-loss cure, and only... -
ARCHIVED When Your Boss Doesn't Get It
Fiddle-Faddle replied to DestinyLeah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually, here in the States, "women's problems" are used as an excuse to not hire women. No woman I know would dare complain of the time of the month as an excuse to call in sick. We might as well say that for 1/6 of our worktime, we won't be able show up. Nobody would hire someone who said that. -

You need to: 1) Go back to the restaurant ASAP and get a letter from them, signed by the manager, explaining that you had requested gluten-free food, and that they screwed up. Explain to the manager (nicely, not accusingly or shrilly) that you stand to lose your job because of the effects of the food that they served you. 2) Go to your doctor's... -

NGG, I was just going to suggest Tae Kwon Do or Karate for you! I don't know much about Kung Fu, though. Before you sign up (most places want an 18-month commitment and make you sign a contract), observe a couple of classes, both beginner and advanced, and see what you think. Maybe observe in several places, and compare. My oldest son did Tae Kwon... -

How about "Genius Bars?" I'd love to do a play oin "Haagen Dasz," like "Huggin' D's," but don't know if that's too close for comfort! -

What if you get the Jennifer Anniston cut that you like so much, go with a meduim brunette color, and have highlights and lowlights, which would make it look a lot more natural? THe overall effect will be darker than JA's, but would go nicely with your skin tone. And you mentioned that guys are attracted to your raven locks--but are they the kind of guys... -

Actually, I've never seen that commercial. I don't watch a lot of TV. I don't believe that change is bad. Don't we all constantly strive for improvement in all aspects of our lives, whether it be spiritual, emotional, visual, whatever? I do think that your natural hair color is far more flattering to your beautiful face than the harsh black, which... -
ARCHIVED Calling All Californians Ab16 Goes To Vote Soon! Please Read.
Fiddle-Faddle replied to AndreaB's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
But, Hawkfire, not all working moms can afford to quit their jobs to homeschool, especially in California, where real estate prices are so ridiculously high. Even more shocking is that some vaccines (the MMR, for example) contain egg, to which MANY people are allergic. And they are trying to take the medical exepmtion away???? -

Fiddle-Faddle replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I don't think anybody looks attractive with roots showing, no matter what color! But it doesn't look particularly attractive for a person to have to a hair color so obviously far away from her own natural shade that it fights with her skin tone, either--tends to look like someone took that person, held them upside down, and dunked them in ink! I guess... -

ARCHIVED My Son Throws Up Rice Flour, Could This Be Celiac Disease?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to melf's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My second son had the weeping, blistering eczema. It was traced to the vaccines he received at 4 months (suddenly appeared within 24 hours of the shots, he got sent to a dermatologist who took one look and said, "this is a drug reaction."). Our pediatrician told me not to give him anything but breastmilk until it went away. By the time he was a year old... -

NoGluGirl--pardon me while I pick my jaw up off the floor! That is a GORGEOUS picture. I'm sorry you don't see yourself as I see you, but I suppose in the long run, how you see yourself is what counts. -

Are you kidding? Or maybe you don't have an electric mixer? If you have an electric mixer (stand mixer is best), it takes all of three minutes and 4 ingredients: 1 stick of unsalted butter (room temperature) 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted (I often skip the sifting and it's fine) 3-4 tablespoons milk (cream is even yummier!) 2 teaspoons... -
ARCHIVED Easy Pizza Crust!
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yes, it's by far the easiest recipe I have found so far. And adding the corn meal makes it SO much easier to work with, and that with the Italian seasoning really makes it taste like REAL crust!!! And corn starch and potato starch are CHEAP! (Unlike the $6.95 pizza crust mixes and the $8.95 prebaked cardboard circles they call pizza crust....) -
THis is adapted from Roben Ryberg's recipe: 1 packet yeast (about 1 tablespoon) 3/4 cup milk, room temperature 1/2 cup potato starch 3/4 cup cornstarch 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoons baking powder 1 tablespoon xanthan gum

ARCHIVED My Son Throws Up Rice Flour, Could This Be Celiac Disease?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to melf's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, Celiac disease would only affect your little one if he is eating anything with gluten--wheat, oats (which you said he did try), rye, and barley. Does the rice cereal have barley malt in it? He is not throwing up the fruits and vegies, right? There are a lot of possibilities here. He could be sensitive to gluten, and sensitive to rice... -

NoGLuGirl, I'd love to see a photo of you with your hair its natural color. I know you don't like it in its natural state, but I'd be curious to see for myself--and I wonder how the citizens of Rachelville would vote!! I gotta say, though, considering how sensitive you are and how many difficulties you have, I'm really amazed that you would use so many... -

I had thought that it was made from wheat gluten, but I could be wrong. You could try a google search and see if anything turns up.
