  1. Well, I opted out of the flu shot, the nurse looked at me like I had horns when I asked if it contained any gluten and etc's. She started to get ready to give me the shot I said, um... excuse me if you cant answer my question I am not ready for the shot, she ended up going and getting the piece of paper out of the box and handing it to me, I then very...
  2. I am gluten free, no blood tests, no biopsy's couldnt get my dr to listen to me, so to He** with them and here I am, not 100% but darn close to it! went to the dr office the other day and ordered myself some tests to check my nutrient levels, oh yeah and pretty much told the dr whats what..... they are now SO on board even mentioned the infamous blood...
  3. Thats a tough one for sure..... I have not yet gotten FMLA for mine, I am allowed so many days off each month and I save them for when I am ill, its easier for me than talking the dr into tests meaning I will once again have to eat gluten, not going to happen. I would suggest talking to your own lawyer however as the company ones are working for them...
  4. Well, dont feel bad, you aren't suffering alone, seems sometime late yesterday afternoon I got myself..... somehow...... Just coming out of the bathroom today and am looking for the culprit..... my best guess at this point is the ice cream sandwich hubby ate the night before, maybe picked up that elusive crumb somewhere? Made myself some chicken soup...
  5. in addition to what everyone mentioned above....... dont let the eventual cravings rule you, instead use that craving energy to find a suitable replacement... one of my favorite books when I started (and still is) is by dana korn called gluten free for dummies
  6. I have not visited this part of the forum in a while and just popped in today and here goes my .0000002 cents: My "trigger" as near as I can tell was the only surgery I ever had, knew I didnt want to have it but at the time it was surgery or death.... I assume I picked the better choice. It took me alot longer to "heal" after surgery and the 6 weeks the...
  7. Well its the annual flu shot drive at work, and today I have to choose, get one or not....... My concern is if its gluten free or not... they add it to everything else why not this too right? I know when I ask the nurse she most likely wont know and every year before (for the past 6 years I have been getting them) I would get really ill afterwards ...
  8. OK, just cause my mother taught me how and its fun sometimes to play the big bad mean person...... this bothered me greatly, not so much that the neice doesn't eat red meat but because the MIL is pandering to the neice but not the bride!!!!!!!!!!! Stand your ground and tell the MIL just who butters the gluten-free bread! If she can accomidate...

Basically what this boils down to is that your old enough to drive and drink and do pretty much whatever you want, you also appear so far to be a relatively intelligent person (even with my typo's people say that about me so take that at what its worth, lol about .00000002 cents!) Its your body and your life, your family has no say in what you do with...
  10. Chicken (also can use beef) Noodle soup Brown chunks of chicken breast (or stew beef) in a large pot Add chicken (or beef) broth (I use kitchen basics) and water (equal amounts) add small chunks of carrots and boil 30 mins (carrots about 1/2 done) add small chunks of potato, boil 5 min (taters about 1/2 done) add cans of any veggie that tickles...
  11. Lets see at my anniversary party we are having cake, meat and veggie trays... I do however like the sounds of the super nachos and the IC sundae bar Another thought would be brownies, not sure what you normally use but the cause your special brand is awesome, its my favorite so far. You could also do cookies, pamela's has some already made or can use...
  12. hows this, is it believable? I have been practicing for weeks! and the cake sound awesome, will try it out soon!
  13. My best advice.......... It pays to be paranoid! teflon pans that are scratched....... replace them Cast Iron...... cry when you replace them wooden spoons...... replace them wooden bowls..... replace them stainless steel/cooper cookware boil them toaster........ replace it cutting boards vary.... see pourous and non pourous instructions...
  14. AFter an accidental glutening I am worthless for the next 2-3 days, and dont even think I am getting more than 5 feet from the nearest bathroom...... the 4-6 day period is "the brain fog" where dont ask me to do anything important cause I hardly know my name let alone anything else.... After that lifts it normally is about 24 hours later that I feel back...
  15. My "road to recovery" started a few years ago on a trip "back home" and was invited by my cousin and my grammie to eat lunch, I tried to decline giving my ever famous "eating is like playing russian roulette" speech when my cousin said..... I bet if you eat lunch with us you wont get sick....... dang but she was right and she hadn't even been diagnosed...

OK, first off I got tired of fighting with my doctors and just went on the diet, no blood tests, no biopsies, and I feel great thats enough for me, for some its not.... My question for joss is..... Is the pain and discomfort really worth it to join this "Aussie celiac support group"? Question #2 is.... if you aren't on gluten long enough before they...
  17. well, that sounds like a very interesting cake, but maybe should wait until AFTER the relatives leave for that one but please either post the recipe or pm it to me, would love to try it out on my hubby =)) I just assumed they would have tons of gluten in the over the counter brands, never even gave them a thought
  18. OK, so my hubby is throwing me a surprise anniversary party (he failed to account that my family cant keep a secret, lol) and I have ordered the cake mixes and bought 6 brand new cake pans all the same size, lol... now I have to find a "good" icing recipe for my yellow cake. Anyone know any great ones? P.S. if your near western Nebraska on nov 10th stop...
  19. You are correct about the importing issues, look at this past summer with the pet food.... and just recently with the lead based paints on the childrens toys.... the scary thing is they don't stop doing it that way because its cheaper than doing it themselves I have changed my pet food, they now also eat gluten-free as I dont want to poison then not...
  20. Monday will be easy, its tuesday that will be the hard day, best wishes are with you and we all are here when you have your first crisis/bad day
  21. If there is one "establishment" you frequent regularly you could talk to the owner/manager and you may be surprised to find they will stock gluten-free beer for you, this wont help when you visit other places but your "main" place will normally accomidate you, you could also call ahead if you can they generally get deliveries multiple times each week and...
  22. I would check the pills yes, but also concider even if you only are drinking coffee outside home that still poses some risk, those little doughnut crumbs that everyone else left go everywhere. Also check shampoo, hand cream, lotions, toothpaste........ you may have done this before however someone may have changed their "recipe" I would concintrate on any...
  23. They actually do the same thing for other foods that tend to be nasty little food allergies... I have seen multiple times things like this (not with gluten as yet) but with peanuts... or it may say manufactured in a plant that also uses nuts.... I am sure they do their best (I would hope anyways) to reduce this to a minimum (lord there goes my spelling...
  24. This was going to be my number one too, this book goes beyond awesome for beginners! (and the coffee cake recipe is wonderful!) (revised) #1 on my list is... dont let your cravings rule you, you need to rule them...... if a particular food starts invading your thoughts and dreamsuse that energy to find a gluten-free (gluten free) replacement. You will...
  25. I like to support the GS but I also do not want them anywhere around myself or my home, what I did last year was give the GS a donation and said sorry I can't eat those I have a food allergy, she thanked me for the donation and left. I know my hubby buys them from work, but he keeps them at work.
