ARCHIVED Alternative For Mayonnaise?
mommida replied to Oria's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
hummus is a good option for replacing mayo on sandwiches and such. Greek yogurt can be used to replace mayo for recipes like chicken salad. There is also some replacements products buy Smart Balance (or Earth Balance) but I have never found them at my grocery store. If your gut is damaged it could be a difficulty with the fat malabsorbtion, and that... -
ARCHIVED Finally A Diagnosis! Sort Of...
mommida replied to gatita's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think Kitty was right on. I want to add that genetic testing is not as accurate as the 98% quoted. My genetic test did not match up to my biological daughter. When I questioned the results I was told, "test has that 2% known missed, genes mutate, and every blood test has a 30% human error rate." Add to that the that may be other unknown Celiac genes... -
ARCHIVED Saying It's Gluten Free When It's Not! Is This Legal?
mommida replied to Jade Pray's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
We have a piazza place by us, and they totally understand and do the gluten free right! So a HUGE shout out for Momma Maria's in Brandon/Ortonville, Michigan. I have even heard the owner talk to his employee about NEVER putting a boxed gluten free pizza in the same warming/wait station with the normal pizzas. -

ARCHIVED Desperate For Answers
mommida replied to Searching4Answers90's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I call it a food journal. You should keep record of small details. Is it cross- contamination from an home made ingredient or utensils? Where did you eat or prepare this food? What are some of the preservitives of this food? Pay particular attention to the top 8 allergens. They are more complex protein chains that earned that spot on the list. Next... -
ARCHIVED Daughter Starting Kindergarden In September Need Advice
mommida replied to stanleymonkey's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Teachers don't want to deal with vomit, behavior issues, and possible projectile vomit. Someone with common sense would make sure your child avoids gluten to make their life easier. I am concerned that your child was never scoped to rule out other related to Celiac issues. Zantac made your child sleep, but did it actually help in other ways? Please... -
ARCHIVED Bmt Cured celiac disease But Now Symptoms Seem To Be Back
mommida replied to ColdCreekBobbieLee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Wouldn't she have been on drugs to suppress her immune system for a transplant? Or was the match perfect, so that wasn't part of the treatment plan after the transplant? If she was on drugs to supress the immune system, then wouldn't the drugs have been responsible for her immune system not attacking the small intestine after ingesting gluten? The...- 5 replies

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed - Could Use Some Advice!
mommida replied to Celia's Mum's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm a bit confused. You must be eating gluten for testing. The testing picks up on the damage being done to the body while eating gluten. Frequent constipation can cause small rips that bleed during large, hard movements. Since the description is of fresh, bright red colored blood; it is most likely from injury from large bowel movement. Still... -
Thyroid is the number one suspect. Sometimes anemia can make you feel cold too. Reynould's syndrome or poor circulation. Definately have experienced this.

ARCHIVED Undeclared Artificial Sweeteners In Milk
mommida replied to Adalaide's topic in Publications & Publicity
You know so much of the general health started to decline when the "no fat" diet started. Why? Consuming fat satisfies hunger. (Cholesteral is needed for brain function.) What people are eating is making the population sick and stupid. -

ARCHIVED Leigh's Syndrome And Gluten?
mommida replied to bmpalmer72's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
There are other's on the board that are much better at understanding and interpreting genetics. Those are not the usual genetic tests looked at for Celiac. Primary Celiac genes are DQ2 and DQ8. (That is really basic, just as an example, many more genes are looked at.) One of the first things that comes to my mind is Pernicious anemia. The gut lining...- 3 replies

ARCHIVED Is There Any Way I Got A False Positive?
mommida replied to adelajoy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You did find Access Clinical information? There is some travel expense coverage. As a side note, I can't find the easy tab button to edit spelling on my last post. (Horrible sentence structure and spelling!) -
ARCHIVED Leigh's Syndrome And Gluten?
mommida replied to bmpalmer72's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Do you know the genes associated with Leigh's syndrome? I am a firm believer that a gluten free diet helps many auto-immune issues. I have seen a dramatic change in a long term MS patient who went gluten, dairy free and cut sugar.l- 3 replies

ARCHIVED celiac disease Symptoms Coming Back
mommida replied to shorebird's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The protein chain of oats can be too similar to the gluten protein. Some Celiacs can not tolerate oats. Gluten free oats were at one time very hard to find. Hadn't had oats in over 5 maybe 6 years. Had to re introduce it to my system by adding a small amount at a time. (the suggestion and directions were on the bag for building tolerance.)- 13 replies

ARCHIVED Is There Any Way I Got A False Positive?
mommida replied to adelajoy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did you know that newly diagnosed Celiacs can sell their blood plasma? The use as the control for some of the tests. You can only be a donator early on in your diagnoses. Some of those symptoms may be caused by vitamin and nutrient defiencies. -
ARCHIVED 18M Old - With Genetics Against Her
mommida replied to Aprilelayne's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For a 2 year old removing gluten follow this law. You must have gluten free snacks and treats with you at all times! Children are offered candy all the time. Explain "that will make your tummy hurt" but mommy has your safe snacks here. You pull out 2 safe snacks and let your child choose. Being 2 is about becoming more independant, let your little one... -
ARCHIVED celiac disease Symptoms Coming Back
mommida replied to shorebird's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
We had been gluten free for about 5 years and everything seemed fine. My daughter diagnosed at 16 months old was now 6 and getting symptoms back. These were the same symptoms of Celiac. She was vommitting too. Constipation/ "D", "whole stomach hurt", dark circles under her eyes, headaches, she did say her throat hurt and doctors would say her strep test...- 13 replies

My kids are in an on-line public charter cyber school. I think we are going to be switching to a closer on line school so the kids can go to a brick and mortar building for lab experiments and face to face teacher/ tutor work. It is challenging, but it seems to be the best for my kids. (My daughter has multiple foods to avoid and sleeping difficulties...

ARCHIVED Making Gluten Free Affordable
mommida replied to Chris04626's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you are going to buy online, check into ebates.com. They offer 4% cash back on purchases from amazon as an example. (I don't know if the percentage rate will change and how much.) I started using the program for Christmas shopping and already received more than $50 cash back! So I am pretty happy with it.
