  1. This post started in 2011. Advil Liquidgels weren't on the market for sale at that time. I have heard the blue liquidgels have gluten in them. I had a sample and didn't keep the label to evaluate all the ingredients. I felt pretty sick after taking them! Always read labels! Old information can soo wrong.
  2. I did stock up on some yarn from Big Lots. I just wanted really nice special yarn for a prayer shawl. Something that feels like a hug.
  3. I actually did mean an incline pillow. when she was younger we did use plywood under the mattress with an incline wedge under the wood. So the whole mattress was on an angle. Simple pillows just don't really work.
  4. Off to a rocky start on the shawl. I ordered some great priced bamboo yarn from an internet site. I still haven't got the yarn yet....... I called and it's on back order. I cancelled the order. Now we are due for some bad winter weather asfter a freakish melt down and pretty heavy rain. We are expecting at 2 inches of snow on top of the standing water...
  5. Foam, Interestng "mystery non-gut parasite" would seem to connect to eosinophils that you mentioned "eosinophilic folliculitus". Eosinophils are usually reserved to fight parsites and the egg stage is free roaming in the host. Keep me informed if you find something out!
  6. Ok that is really interessting because my daughter has Eosinophilic Esophagitus. Guess what there is a connection between Celiac and EE.
  7. She would take Previcid. Helped a little too.
  8. Go back to the doctor and see if there is any further treatment for the Barret's Esophagus. My daughter also has Eosinophilic Esophagitus, (diagnosed with an endoscopy with biopsy). The symptoms were the same as gluten, "D", vomitting, "stomach" pain, some sore throat complaints, headaches, reflux, some difficulty swallowing, and food may get stuck in...
  9. Loey, This book included personal stories about working for the mission, giving shawls in person, and the personal pattern contribution. I'm thinking a poncho pattern would be a nice idea too.
  10. Most peeps here also eliminate gluten from shampoo and other hygeine/cosmetic products. I will end up completely miserable if wheat has been in any makeup or shampoo I have used. Some acne can be caused by vitamin defiency. Zinc is one found in water, and associated with acne breakouts when there is a defiency. If you think the skin eruptions are...
  11. The top 8 "allergens" are the most likely suspects. eggs, soy, fish, shellfish, nuts, tree nuts, dairy(casein protein), and wheat (already excluded in the gluten free diet) The most likely intolerance from gluten damage is casein. The tip of the villi is where the dairy is processed and that is where most of the damage is done from Celiac.
  12. The damage caused by the holiday glutenings may have caused damage making him sensitive to other proteins. Give it some time for healing. Try some probiotics. Keep a food journal to see if another protein sensitivity is involved.
  13. The Prayer Shawl Companion, Janet Bristow & Victoria A. Cole- Galo list price US$19.95 but I found it on clearance at JoAnn's for $5.97
  14. I live close enough to the border to see Canadians shopping in the area. The last group of ladies in ran into were really putting together a shopping girl's weekend. They were running through Costco wearing shirts that labeled themselves as b!^ch (they did not cleverly disquise this word like I just did) numbered 1 through 6 (if I remember right). Funny...
  15. I have to admit I am intrigued by the prayer shawl. I bought a clearance Prayer Shawl book, because the patterns looked soo easy. I did not expect the personal stories would be so interesting. The story on page 59 caught my interest. A wounded soldier at Walter Reed was asked what he had wrapped around him. He said he didn't know, someone just gave it...
  16. Ok I only had a bit of spare time to look into this. There is a link between Celiac and Leukocytoclastic vasculitis. Posters here on the forum have mentioned the "purple spots" and I have thought of the auto immune disease ITP(which also seems to be managed better by a change in diet.) It seems that Leukocytoclatic vasculitis is also known as hypersensitivity...
  17. Thanks for the correction. Brain fart, I just wanted candy really bad last night, but not bad enough to go out in the cold to get some. Smarties in the US are on the Parents for kids with food allergies "non-food" items. So long as the individual can tolerate sugar and food dyes, Smarties, Dum-dum suckers can be used for kids with feeding tubes to not...
  18. A 5 year plan? Hmmm. I found my first grey hair on 12/21/2012. My son is 13. So for the next 5 years I will be busy raising a young man to adulthood. My daughter is 10. So I am raising a young woman. (These are considered the toughest years for a female.) Trying to stay healthy. Keep up with the husband and kids. Knit some stuff for fun and...
  19. There has been an explosion of gluten free products on the market in the past decade. Some products started as family products to replace a beloved missed product. (i.e. Cerrone cones. gluten free sugar cones for ice cream. I think it was bought out by gluten free pantry products. Gluten free pantry products was started by a former NFL player's family...
  20. Aren't Smarties in Canada like Hershey's M&M's (chocolate bits with colored sugar coating with a letter M on it) in the U.S.? Little joke... Why did the blonde get fired from the M&M factory? She kept throwing out the Ws.
  21. One concern about not having a medical diagnoses... God forbid if we ever enter a war and have to institute the draft. As of right now, most MRI have gluten as an ingredient. (My son did get to taste a gluten free one.) A gluten free diet might not be a doable thing on a frontline. I still have to wonder if my daughter had the endoscopy with biopsy...
  22. How many of your co-workers wanted your steak? Monkey see (and smell), monkey WANT! I always keep some exquistely naughty treat on hand for splurging after the let down of not getting some stupid gluten thing. (I better explain, some food treat like chocolate.) I do order a bunless burger from Wendy's occasionally to get over junk food cravings too...
  23. The genetic test is not an end all, be all. It will add to the evidence for Celiac diagnoses (hopefully). In our case we found out my daughter has 2 Celiac genes. May explain the high sensitivity level. (May also give future medical information to the fact that she has Celiac and Eosinophilic Esophagitus. There is now a proven connection to these disorders...
  24. To do the "gold standard" diagnoses for Celiac the patient must be consuming gluten for the amount of damage to show up on tests. (FULL Celiac blood tests, endoscopy with biopsy, and improvement on the gluten free diet) This option is no longer going to be accurate since you started the gluten free diet. I don't suggest a gluten challenge (go back to eating...
  25. American Smarties are basically sugar candy. American Smarties candy is gluten free.
