ARCHIVED Could Celiac Disease And Eosiniphilic Esophagitis Be Connected?
mommida replied to Daisychamp's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes there is a proven link between Celiac and Eosinophilic Esophagitus. (if I remember right JAMA October '12 or even as early as '11) It has lead to the reccomondation that all new cases of EE be screened for Celiac. My daughter was diagnosed with "probable" Celiac at 17 months old and EE when she was 6 years old. (Her EE diagnosing scope was done...- 7 replies

I am so glad for your son! Yes there is a withdrawal period when you remove gluten from your diet. I also think it takes about 4 months for your taste buds to adjust to gluten free. Maximoo, Can you find out more infomation about growth after a girl's cycle starts? I have heard both theories, but why? -

First birth, 8lb 5 oz. sunny side up kid (who changed his mind halfway out. Seriously he decided he would grab hold and refuse to budge after head and shoulders were out. All his fingernails were broken backwards from trying to hold on. Mind you from the sunny side up STUCK position he had a big blister on his head when he was born. No pain medication...- 8 replies

Can you try a compromise? Meatless Mondays. I noticed for my own health I needed to supplement Biotin. It is naturally found in animal liver. I just can not force myself to eat it. There have been warnings for years of animal liver products having more environmental toxins too. Olympians had to remove animal liver from thier diets because they... -
ARCHIVED My 6 Year Old Just Diagnosed - Question About Reflexes
mommida replied to Mayasmum's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think this can resolve on a gluten free diet and better absorbtion of vitamins, minerals, and fats. So work with her doctor and definately explain what is going on, so further tests can be run. -

My daughter was too sick to have the biopsy done at 16 months old. She was hospitalized days after the blood draw for the Celiac panel for dehydration. She was diagnosed "probable Celiac" from positive panel and DQ2 and DQ8 Celiac genes. Things seemed fine on the gluten free diet diet until she was 6 years old. It seemed she was having gluten sympptoms... -

You could also try a (gluten free) probiotic and/or digestive enzymes supplement. Keep a food journal to help determine if you have another food sensitivity, -

mommida replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Well sometimes I just use LARD for baking. (please don't start hating on me now) Ghee is the best suggestion. For a spread on sandwiches and such I love hummus! YUM mashed avocado or guacomale. They both have a creamy texture and add some moisture to sandwiches. -
ARCHIVED Can Somebody Help Me Figure Out Where To Go From Here?
mommida replied to October3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Can you go over the test results again and check for eosinphil counts? (This should also be on the pathology report of the biopsies taken.) It is more of a "new hard to diagnose" catagory of eosinophilic gastro. disorder. There is now a proven link between Celiac and eosinophilic esophagitus. This could explain some improvement on a gluten free diet diet... -
ARCHIVED Overall Sick Feeling After Eating
mommida replied to BethanyGraves's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You are all very new to the gluten free diet. Some individuals really come to a point of health at 2 years after starting the gluten free diet. ( you definately should feel better, but all the tests for liver enzymes and such that have wanky results before going gluten free start coming back normal.) ~ Your gut has to heal from damage. You may not... -
ARCHIVED Input On Pathology Report

You are right to have your pancreas checked. I would just reading (light skimming tease article) about the pancreas and how some some very early signs are some things I tend to take for granted because of Celiac. Fat malabsorbtion and weight loss. A breast lump could be a normal reaction to too much caffiene. They never seem to put that information... -
ARCHIVED Input On Pathology Report
mommida replied to maggiesimpson's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have documented damage in the small intestine. ( Did you get any picutes from the pill cam?) Remember, I am not a doctor. I feel the signs of a food/protein are showing up in your results. There is damage, but it is not out of the normal ranges. The eos, eosinophil count, is higher in the specific area tested. (In adults diagnoses is done by... -
ARCHIVED Afraid Yet Optimistic, For My Husband
mommida replied to nicoleashley's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Get the kids tested ASAP! If they are going through the scoping make sure there is a pathology request for eosinophil count. I would take the house gluten free, you will learn about cross contamination. Try not to be discouraged about not liking gluten free foods at first. It took about 4 months for my taste buds to adjust. Have a gluten free snack... -
ARCHIVED Wrong Diagnosis After Biopsy; Gi Doctor Calling Tomorrow - ?s To Ask?
mommida replied to quirkinator's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ask what the eosinophil count was. I advise you to research Eosinophilic Esophagitus. Barret's esophagus Nutcracker Syndrome Now when you look at the results, know why these possible disorders were ruled out, if they were even tested for. Could you please give further details about PFAPA? -
ARCHIVED Very Upset.. Told Blood Tests Are 90% Accurate! Help!
mommida replied to lmc22's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just want to add when we had genetic testing for Celiac with Prometheus labs we got back confusing results. This genetic test was said to be at least 99% accurate. So when my test result did not have a close enough match to my biological daughter, we had questions. So Prometheus labs would not do the testing over and offered these reasons.. the known... -
ARCHIVED Illnesses With Celiac Like Symptoms
mommida replied to zebrapig's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes there are other diseases/disorders that present with the same symptoms as Celiac. H. Ployri parasites hernia the list is quite long and I can't remember the top 8 most likely diagnoses. (I don't count IBS as a diagnoses) Eosinophilic disorders can be diagnosed anywhere in the GI track and also has a food "trigger" (not an actual allergy). Some... -

I think your state will have "homebound" student exemptions too. It is not easy, but all her work is sent to your home with a teacher visit once a week. Some states are starting more on-line options for PUBLIC school as well as private school options. Connections Academy (make sure you are in the public school option) and K 12 are two cyber schools that... -

I can't wait to get an extra hour of sleep! It does help to have more light during your waking hours too. People start to stagger around like zombies during this time of the year, until the time changes. -
That is the point, Michigan has had some residual weather from a very strong hurricane before. I think about every 7 years we get some rainy weather from winding down cyclones. This storm was soo big we had the rain, wind, and cold BEFORE Sandy even made landfall. This was the first time we had to listen to wind all night long and wonder if the house construction...

Let the kids trade some of the bounty with their friends. Give some of it to the teenager who thought they were too cool or too old to go out begging. Did they have a friend that wasn't feeling well enough to go out? Give it to them. We also gave it to teachers before. -
In Michigan... A road was closed when I was out. A lot of strange debri in the road. Power has been flickering.
