  1. If you are unsure after reading the label, call the company. We usually by the Costco brand.
  2. Forever.
  3. I had an endoscopy with biopsy. Unfortunately I was with a terrible doctor. He was so ignorant he told me it would be fine if I was already on a gluten free diet. Right after the procedure he pronounced me non-celiac, because he knew I was "too young to have Celiac". I don't think he even took any biopsies either, because he knew I didn't have Celiac...
  4. Sometimes getting to the right ped helps. Then they can use the inside track for an earlier appointment. (The last ped appointment, he was considering hospitalizing my daughter and ran every screening test before he let us leave.) It gets easier. Finding the right docotrs to work with is a major key. Changing the diet right now is an issue that can possibly...
  5. I had some type of pain attack on December 7th. In the ER they put the I.V. in and started explaining the surgery. By that time the extreme pain had passed and I wanted to be sure it was neccessary to have the gallbladder removed so I left the hospital that night and have been going through tests. The HIDA scan was done last week. The doctor called with...
  6. Host families chat on a on-line site. Search for that site and start chatting with your potential host families.
  7. Cold turkey. Clean out the kitchen of all the gluten and gluten contaminated stuff. i.e.peanut butter jar, jam, anything that has bread crumbs in it. Don't go for any of the pre-made gluten free stuff at first. The taste and texture adjustment is easier after a few months. I like the gluten free pantry favorite sandwich bread mix. If you buy ready made...
  8. This is always one of the hardest questions on this board. You don't want your child going through undue stress. Are the risks going to out weigh the benefit? What things can this test rule out or diagnose? This test can look for Celiac damage, malformations, H. Ployri, parasites, Eosinophils, Barrett's esophagus, and I'm sure many other things that I...
  9. My daughter's Celiac testing was more than five years ago. She was too ill for the endo. w/ biopsy at the time. Celiac blood panel had only one positive and one borderline result. We had to rely more on the genetic test and gluten free diet. EE is diagnosed through the endoscopy and biopsy route ~not a single blood test. She will have to go in for more...
  10. Hey Nancy, Could you stay with us on the forum? You happen to have the same genes as my daughter (DQ2 and DQ8) and we are having some problems. All was fine for about 5 years on the gluten free diet for Celiac. Then came the Eosinophilic Esophagitis. She was put on the elimination diet, was doing great. Then the bottome has dropped out again. She...
  11. I'm no where close to get to a Ted's. How disapointing!
  12. Our experiences have been great. The worst experience was for carry out when the server put the kid's hamburger bun on the side. She said her aunt had celiac and still wanted the bun on the side. Don't know what the thinking was there. My husband set het straight. NO BUNS, in with/near gluten free food. Even if your aunt wanted the bread she paid...
  13. To save time and money you can order some of your favorite items by the case on-line. You can look into a co-op. This takes a bit more time and co-operation. You will find others to split cases with and you usually have to order a consistent dollar amount a month.
  14. ~You are testing for the damaging reaction for gluten in the body. ~Only have the blood test prior to the ped gastro appointment if the two doctors are on the same page and want the same panel drawn. The results should then be sent to both docs. The labs are somewhat determined by your health insurance. ~Genetic testing is still "new". Not as readily...
  15. From your post you are unsure about the liver disease being a "marker" of Celiac disease. There is a connection between the two. If a person has the auto-immune liver cirroshis (spelling?) they often find out they have Celiac. I don't have enough free time to pull up all the articles to pull up the statistics, and they often have conflicted numbers. ...
  16. She needs to be reffered to a pediatric gastroenterologist. She must consume gluten and have enough damage to be picked up on the tests. She will be scheduled for an endoscopy with biopsy as soon as you start working with a pediatric gastro. Call today for the refferal. If that ped doesn't give you a refferal tell the office you are firing the doctor...
  17. To be more specific on the B12 defiency and the Celiac connection... Pernicious anemia. The gut lining lacks the intrinsic factor to properly absorb B12. The new findings suggests sublingual vitamin B12 (look for the Methyl processed) is just as effective as the shots.
  18. Those are all symptoms of HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. The one thing you did not mention is ringing ears. Is this why you are having the fiesty temperment? By all means get your thyroid checked as you get yourself into the doctors. Until you get in what is going on? Stressfull situation? New medication? Any changes? I've never had high blood pressure...
  19. Since you have gone gluten free, you should not bother with further testing. If you do a gluten challenge it is very hard on your body and the results will still be skewed. Unless it is genetic testing. Which you have already done.
  20. Aww Shucks!!! I thought you were describing me, but I don't remember having that conversation.
  21. oooooooohhh I guess my cover is blown now! I do have blonde hair!
  22. Do you know what tests came back negative for Celiac? Do you recall if she was eating gluten before and during the blood draw? How long ago was the test run? She does seem to be at a higher risk with having been diagnosed with an auto-immune disease. As for the ITP, did you change her diet to avoiding the higher risk foods? Did she have the small purple...
  23. I know how you feel about the endoscopy. I cried when they took my daughter (7years old) away yesterday. She has been through it before and was quite the little pro as the 11 year was pitching quite the fit. Make sure you trust your child's doctor! That helps a lot. Some points to remember, that endoscopy can rule out a lot of other problems. i.e. congenital...
  24. My daughter has Celiac and Eosinophilic Esophagitis. Just had another enoscopy yesterday and it appears that the elimination diet has healed her esophagus. Waiting on the pathology report as the tissue appeared to be normal. She has eliminated... gluten (oats are excluded too) soy (all leguemes) casein eggs fish shellfish nuts treenuts food dyes...
