ARCHIVED Wondering If My 5 Month Old Has Celiacs?
mommida replied to Windsblw's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is possible she could be pasing the antibodies. She also could be a Celiac too. Childbirth can be the trigger for Celiac. -
ARCHIVED Esophagitis Or Other?
mommida replied to Cybele's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Esophagitis - irritation and or damage of the esophagus. The endoscopy showed an irritated/damaged esophagus. The biopsies will show what type of damage. Do not panic as this is only one scenario... If the biopsy show eosinophils (not common white blood cell associated with an allergic type response), it could be Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EE). Some... -
ARCHIVED Wondering If My 5 Month Old Has Celiacs?
mommida replied to Windsblw's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This is going to be hard for diagnosing your son. The celiac panel is notorious for patients under 24 months to get false negatives. Your child would have to ingest the gluten and have enough damage happening to show up in the tests. (blood draw and endoscopy with biopsy) I think you are going to have really hard time with that. Rightfully so. Gluten... -

The gluten free diet can help with the Chrons. The diet gets easier with time. Every one here has experience to help you through. Keep a food journal to keep track of hidden gluten or other food... -

ARCHIVED What Is That Bad Taste In My gluten-free Foods?
mommida replied to maddycat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am guessing from my memory what is in those products. pea protein bean (grabanzaor fava) flour and the worst IMO is quinoa. I have a gag reflex from the after taste exactly like you describe. I don't like sorghum either -
ARCHIVED Finally An Answer
mommida replied to tennyl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You should also be tested for pernicious anemia. There is a connection to Celiac disease. Welcome to the board! Keep a food journal. It can help determine hidden gluten (maybe from cross contamination) or other food intolerances. -
ARCHIVED Where Do You Find Gluten-Free Products In Bulk Cheap
mommida replied to Ivyblaze's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Look to see if there is a co-op by you. You order directly from a warehouse and cut out the middle man (health food store). Everyone agrees to order a set price worth and someone waits for the truck delivery. Usually this is done at one address like a church or one members home. You seperate everyone's orders and arrange for everyone to pick up their... -

ARCHIVED Awkward Question Please Help
mommida replied to Jaydley's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Will swallowing my partners non gluten semen affect me? I don't know how to put that any more lightly. Please help, I would be far too mortified to ask anyone else who actually knows what their talking about and I really would like to know if there's some way I can start preventing these excruciating infections without having to take anti-biotics every... -
ARCHIVED Enjoy Life Cookie Cookbook & Thumbprint Cookie Recipe
mommida replied to IAtodd's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Enjoy life can be a total lifesaver for people with more food allergies than gluten! My daughter has to eliminate the top 8, peas, chickpeas, beans and gluten. There goes all the texture component of most foods. If you don't want that cook book, I'll take it. I'll head your warning and make some changes. I'm learning how to replace eggs and it is difficult... -
Well I'm going through the same thing here. Started on December 7th. Still going to have some more testing done before having surgery.

ARCHIVED Honeybaked Ham?
mommida replied to halfrunner's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had the honey baked ham last Christmas (2008). I found out they changed to a gluten free formula after Thanksgiving of 08. It was great and I did NOT get sick. Definately -never stop reading labels or asking questions! -
ARCHIVED Strawberry Starburst Candy Canes?
mommida replied to G-freegal12's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I picked up a package of the Starburst CANDY CANES, it has MALT syrup as one of the ingredients. We have to contact the manufacturer on this one. Some of the other "fruity flavored" candy canes now have malt syrup listed as ingredients. I wasn't going to buy them and find out after the fact we can't eat them. I forgot to write the contact information... -

mommida replied to summerteeth's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That sounds like like you don't have to add either of the gums for baking then. I will have to find some of this stuff. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Cake Mixes And Pumpkin
mommida replied to ciavyn's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
How much pumpkin do you add to the mix? Do you adjust the amount for the smaller gluten free mixes. I am right to assume you are not adding any other ingredients ~ just the pumpkin. I have been making myself crazy trying to eliminate the top 8 and gluten for my daughter and you just add pumpkin. -
ARCHIVED Plantain Flour
mommida replied to summerteeth's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi I'm probably no help at all but I am very curious. Have you found any recipes that call for the plantain flour? Or were you just planning on using it in your normal recipes? I would make sure to add some xanthan or guar gum to the recipe. -
I had a number to call Friday afternoon to see if I was needed on Monday. The first group that was called sat on a jury, and was done by lunchtime. I was called with about 60 people. The picking process and questioning lasted over an hour and half. (Voir Dere? I don't recall how to spell that right now) As soon as the jury was picked the case started...

ARCHIVED Celiacs With Gallbladders Removed?
mommida replied to Natascha's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Mkat, You described word for word what I have been describing this feeling as "golfball" and all. I have been gluten free for over 5 years and these symptoms have developed suddenly. I am going through further tests to prove it is gallbladder related before having surgery. Thank you for your post. It is valueable information for me. -
I have an appointment for Wednesday. Got to love insurance. I am having burning under the ribs on the right side. (including the back)

Hello, Starting the gluten free diet is quite a change. Pack yourself some safe snacks to have with you at all times. You won't have as many accidents. When you are hungry it makes it more frustrating reading through labels. What religion are you? Catholic's have a low gluten host. Still has wheat in it and won't be considered an "official" host...

I still have to schedule the appoint for the CT scan and HIDA. I was trying to work around all the Christmas activities for the kids and family. Today is Saturday and if I vomit or dry heave one more time I'm going back to the ER. I know hospitals tend to be poorly staffed on the weekends.
